  1. ="Willets Point"]Location. I like that at Fenway, Wrigley, Camden Yards, and whatever-they-call-it-now ballpark in San Francisco you can just walk along the sidewalk and the ballpark is one of the buildings in the neighborhood. Shea and the future Mets home are divorced from the city by their location. The problem with the Ebbets Field retro-look is that it is a style for a neighborhood ballpark being used on a ballpark that's not in a neighborhood. The artificiality of it is unappealing. I can appreciate the point, but it seems to me like a pretty empty complaint. The Mets don't now nor have they ever had the opportunity to place this ballpark in any sort of "neighborhood." WIth that in mind, what exactly should the stadium look like?
  2. ="Yancy Street Gang"]More of the Disneyfication of ballparks. In the old days there was a reason for the asymmetrical dimensions. Now it's done simply to make a new park remind us of the old ones. Do you think it's better for a game to be played in a park with symmetrical or asymmetrical dimensions, and why? I agree as to why parks are built with asymmetrical dimensions these days, but my opinion is also that it's more fun to have games played in such parks. No sense building symmetrical dimensions just because. Unique parks create homefield advantanges, make plays more interesting, etc.
  3. Ex-Braves are Glavine, Franco and Eli Marrero.
  4. Willie said on the pregame interview of yesterday's game that it will indeed be Glavine on Sunday. I guess that puts Pelfrey on Tuesday, and then Trachsel and Maine?
  5. Fun IGT, sure, but it was fun to be there. Coupla things I didn't see in the IGT: Weather: Rick Peterson, no jacket. Willie going out to talk to Maine rather than Peterson. Don't think I've ever seen Willie go out to the mound other than to change a pitcher/injury in his 1.5 years as manager. Camp groups all over the upper deck. Some into the game, some chanting "let's go Yankees," some starting the wave. Maine is turning into a fan favorite.
  6. ="TransMonk"]I've been meaning to compile a win-loss record according to the different uni combos. Not that it matters, but thought it might be interesting. They flash it at Shea at the start of the game (while the Mets pitcher is taking his first warmups). Seems to me with this win, the Mets are 13-15 with the White uniforms (the only uniforms in which they have a losing record. ="ScarletKnight41"]The camp kids are out in force. I can already hear Kase railing against the counselors who are going to herd these kids out in the 7th inning. Indeed. Most of the groups stayed for the whole thing! I was very pleased. ="Yancy Street Gang"]What IS that song they play when Beltran comes up to the plate? Sounds like "Vanis takee! Vanis takee!" It's "[something] aqui!" I think. No spanish skills here, but that's the eternal question on the "Mets Entrance Music" theme. Every at-bat for the past 2 years, it's the same song. I really want to know.
  7. Maine 5.5 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 Heilman 1 Valentin .75 Beltran .75
  8. I'm suprised that Pelfrey is not just getting the ticket back to the minors with Pedro coming off the DL (clearly, it will be Heath Bell again). WIth the off day Thursday and Monday, it doesn't make much sense to be carrying that 6th starter right now.
  9. For what it's worth, I think quite a few people at the game last night already got the message. Cheers had died down after he got back to the dugout but then an "En-dy! En-dy!" chant broke out and he got what I think might've been his first curtain call.
  10. Terrible game from everyone except Endy (Heilman, Wagner, Beltran were ok). LoDuca is the slowest man alive (the grounder deep up the middle). At least he looked like he was hustling. I got the distinct feeling that Cliff Floyd wasn't running nearly as hard as he could in the OF tonight. I seriously doubt Willie ever had any intention of letting Glavine finish the 7th inning -- he was at 100 pitches -- he has been tiring lately -- and he should have been f-ing pulled and never allowed to pitch that inning. Aargh. I know he had retired the last 10 batters and the pitcher was due up, but it was painfully obvious from my seat in the Mezzanine that he needed to go the the 'pen right there and not try to get an extra inning out of him. The 'pen was pretty rested and there's an off day on Thursday. Bad, bad game.
  11. Zvon wrote: Well, we've been seeing the Wrong Glavine the last four outtings and... theres only one of him. Clearly you forget a certain call-up in late September '03. (In fairness, I'd rather forget anything Mets-related from that summer too.
  12. Uh, people giving Glavine Schaefer points for 7/25, did you all make typos? All sarcasm aside, Tom Glavine gave up 8 runs in 6 innings, seriously hurting any chance to win. In the field, he made a bad throwing error. At the plate, instead of getting the bunt down, it was a double play. I'd award negative points if I could.
  13. Chavez 3 Beltran 1.5 Heilman .25 Wagner .25

  15. Thanks for the update, I missed pregame today. I suspect Heath Bell is headed back to Norfolk with the Pedro activiation and they use El Duque and Maine in the rotation/'pen as needed. They may want to give Pelfrey a few more chances rather than send him right back to the minors. Further complicating things, possibly, Bannister is making his first rehab start Wednesday in St. Lucie.

  20. Edit that post NOW!!! Seriously, they're 13 GAMES OUT. They sweep, they're still 10(!) games out. Enough with the Braves shit already.
  21. Delgado walks to get the tying run on base with Wright up. LET'S GO METS!
  22. Pelfrey is going to get another start as well. A 6-man rotation for a little while, with El Duque possibly to the 'pen. Source: Marty Noble's notes column on Mets.com
