  1. Didn't realize that was why. My thinking was assuming Ring simply because of the need for lefties and the presumed lack of Darren Oliver next year.
  2. Shouldn't Royce Ring be ahead of either Schmoll, Owens, or both?
  3. The ball was never in the glove -- it was in LoDuca's hand, which he put temporarily in his glove but he tagged the runner with the ball and it came loose after the tag. Ump was positioned badly. Bad call. Even worse that nobody bothered to argue.
  4. FWIW, the lineup originally had: 4 - Wright 3B 5 - Franco 1B 6 - Marrero LF 7 - Valentin 2B Franco scratched with the Flu, Marrero scratched with a stiff neck.

  6. Pelfrey's back to the minors, Maine will start Sunday, and the Mets are back to what projects as a 5-man rotation for the time being.
  7. Still got Morgan Keppinger on that roster. Gotay is single.
  8. The game is on ESPN. Ball was hit back to the pitcher, he checked the runner at third but then threw late to first. Credited with a hit, as of now.
  9. No luck in the 8th. Would take quite a bit to see him batting again.
  10. Put it in the books!!
  11. Mets player ejection #3 this year (?). LoDuca with Angel Hernandez, and Duaner Sanchez once.
  12. Who else had bad flashbacks when they saw Endy diving in from off-screen after that ball?
  13. SteveJRogers wrote: Did Hernandez get his chance to catch yet? For some reason I thought I heard he did Not in the major leagues. The career fielding stats are easily found on MLB.com or ESPN...
  14. Zvon wrote: Maybe he wants to ensure it ends up a save situation. *Z pulls out a tuft of hair* I'm sure he didn't want it to be, but now that it is, I'd like to see Wagner come in and get a save to get right back on the horse, etc etc.
  15. SteveJRogers wrote: For some reason I think Fortunado went somewhere in between stints Nope, he was Mets property interrupted since he came over with Victor Z.
  16. With Roberto Hernandez in the game, he becomes the first two-separate-stints-with-the-Mets player since...Roger Cedeno?
  17. Gee, Willie, do you think it's time to get somebody up?
  18. "Trying to keep cool with the air conditioning"?? You turn on the A/C, it's cool. Go outside, it's not. Easy!

  20. Zvon wrote: Cant say we didnt see this coming. He needs more seasoning. I thought we'd be seeing a good amount of Ks and some lights out performances. We saw a very average pitcher. Maybe even under average, tho I think if given time he would have gotten his ERA and WHIP down a bit. I'd agree with that. If the rehab goes as planned I think I'd be more in favor of the next starting pitcher promotion going to Bannister and not to Pelfrey returning.
  21. Ring wearing 43 according to the Mets press release.
  22. 'Pen now has more lefties than righties.
  23. I'd have to spend a lot longer doing the analysis, but I think voters generally undervalue relievers, especially when there are several offensive stars in a game. Also contributing: they generally only get 1 point maximum in any game. Wagner pitched a 5-out save recently and got 1.05 points for it. That's probably the high in any game for either of them this year.
  24. KTE - Florida Marlins August 1-3 Perhaps failure to Know our Enemy led to the loss? Woulda done the EEE yesterday but didn't realize it was missing. What's the timeframe for those things -- when do we go into "emergency" mode? 2 hours before gametime? 1 hour? Anyway, the report: This year: The Marlins, with the win yesterday against the Mets are 50-56. That's 3rd place, 13.5 games back. They are 5 back in the wildcard standings, although there are 8 (!) teams ahead of them. Recent Performance: After going 18-7 in June, the Marlins came back to earth in July, going 14-15 in July. Recently, they took 2 of 3 from the Braves before dropping 3 of 4 to Philadelphia. Lineup: C - Miguel Olivo ®. 12-40-.295. Also a good throwing arm, caught 41% so far this year. 61 Ks and only 5 walks. 1B - MIke Jacobs (L) is having a nice first full season. 14-54-.289, also 30 doubles, .870 OPS. 2B - Dan Uggla ® all-star and longshot ROY candidate. 16-61-.292. 3B - Miguel Cabrera ® was not happy the last time he faced the Mets, getting plunked on the hip in obvious retaliation by Duaner Sanchez. 16-66-.326, .972 OPS. SS - Hanley Ramirez ® has come back to earth a little bit. Still projected as a future star to "build" the franchise around. 10-34-.269, 30 steals. LF - Josh Willingham ® we saw last night, is en fuego, 5 HRs in his last 5 games. 16-55-.263 for the year. CF - Alfredo Amezaga (L) coverted infielder who still backs up there sometimes. 2-12-.267, with a .335 OBP. The regular leadoff hitter. 9 for 16 in stealing attempts. RF - Jeremy Hermida (L) 5-22-.284. Not a great defensive outfielder. Pitching Matchups: Pelfrey vs. Scott Olsen (L) Saw this last night. Perhaps worth noting that the Marlins are the first team that have seen Pelfrey twice. Steve Trachsel vs. Rickey Nolasco ® (9-6, 3.94) Nolasco, a rookie, has been fantastic his last 3 starts: 3-0, 0.42 ERA in 21.2 innings, 10 H, 14 Ks. Those three starts were against Washington, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Nolasco last faced the Mets in the second game of the doubleheader on July 8 (Pelfrey's debut). 9 runs in 1.2 innings. Lefties hit 100 points higher against Nolasco than righties. A start for Endy looks probable. Pedro vs. Dontrelle Willis (L) (6-8, 4.27) Willis hasn't gotten a win since he faced the Mets on July 7. 7.2 Innings, 3 Runs, 9 H, 9 Ks, 5 BBs. He's had 1 good and 1 not so good start lost by the 'pen, and a third with no run support. Most recently, he was knocked around in Philly and only finished 2.1 innings (6 ER, 2 HRs). Willis is also a very good hitter. Hopefully Pedro won't have the problems with him that Jose Lima did. Bench: Matt Treanor ®, backup catcher. Good glove, no bat. Wes Helms ®, 7-22..271 in mostly backup/PH duties. Some starts at 1B against lefties, but that's N/A in this series. Reggie Abercrombie ®, backup outfiedler, lost the starting CF job for an inability to hit. .217 on the year. Free swinger, lots of Ks. Cody Ross ®, some power off the bench, backup OF. Joe Borchard (S), also has power but hitting .225. Bullpen: Joe Borowski ®, closer, 21-for-24 in save opportunities. 1-2, 3.43 ERA. Having his best year since 2003 with the Cubs. Matt Herges (L), primary setup guy. Decent numbers (1-2, 3.81 ERA) despite tons of baserunners (61 H, 14 BB in 49.2 innings). Leads the team in relief appearances and innings. Logan Kensing (L), 1-3, 4.66. Had a rough July after a very good June. Telling stat: 1 for 7 in save opportunities. Randy Messenger ®'s July (10.38 ERA) was even worse than Kensing's. 1-6, 4.69 on the year. Taylor Tankersley (L), probably the most effective reliever in the Marlins 'pen. Lefty specalist, never more than 1 inning. 1-1, 1.76, 10 H, 9 BB, 21 Ks in 17.1 innings. Renyel Pinto (L), on the AAA shuttle, back for the 3rd time. Had 2 good innings against the Mets in May. 6.43 ERA in 7 innings, 5 hits, 7 BB, 9 Ks. Who's Hurt: Pitchers Sergio Mitre and Carlos Martinez are on long-term DL stints. Ex-Mets: Mike Jacobs Yusmerio Petit was sent back to AAA after 18.2 Innings. 1-1, 8.68 ERA, 32 H, 13 Ks, 4 BBs. Ex-Marlins: Ramon Castro Carlos Delgado Cliff Floyd Paul LoDuca Darren Oliver
  25. BMets now have Phil Humber as well.
