  4. I loved Fonzie as much as the next person, but history can't deny that Steve Phillips was absolutely correct in not resigning him, and that at best, he'd get a late-September call-up.
  5. Wasn't the score 6-3?
  6. Beltran: sore right knee. Not injured on any particular play during the game. Bothered him so he left. Via Gary on SNY via Jay Horowitz.
  7. soupcan wrote: Guys watching on TV - was Woody's hit out or not? Clearly, 100%, not a doubt about it.
  8. Rotblatt wrote: Uh, what Olerud said. Why is Beltran out? No word yet. Guys on SNY don't know yet. Speculation (from me): something irritated from when he fouled the ball off his leg in the ASG.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Well, whichever paper suggested Prior starting this weekend is wrong as they've just DL'd him. So I guess what remains to be seen is whether Zambrano takes the reins. He strained an oblique muscle while hitting, apparently.
  10. OlerudOwned wrote: Clean slide. 3 feet away from the bag, but I guess it was clean. Ed Coleman and Tom McCarthy on WFAN suggested that it wasn't, that Nady couldn't even touch 2nd if he reached all the way out.
  11. Reyes out Friday, still the pinky finger. Pedro's probably going to skip his first start back, as previously reported. That could push his first start back as far as Monday, 7/24 vs. Chicago (which would be almost a month between starts).
  12. The Post reported that Reyes' daughter is named Katerine and has the same name as her mother (who is Reyes' live-in girlfriend).
  13. Probably results in Pelfrey and Maine getting the starts against the Reds.
  14. The game was taking place at the same time as the America: Tribue to Heroes telethon (was broadcast simultaneously on CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX), which had a lot of good artists that I wanted to see (Bruce, Neil Young, Vedder, Petty, et al.), so I was flipping between the game and the telethon. Surreal, certainly, to go between the songs and the Mets, back in New York. Game was carried nationally (on ESPN?) so seeing it on SNY was the first time I got to hear Howie broadcasting it.
  15. ="metirish"]The thought of Skip Carey or his brother as lead voice for TBS makes me want to vomit. I think you're referring to Skip's son (Harry's grandson), named Chip. Strange that you'd like Fran Healy but dislike Skip/Chip Caray. Skip and Fran in particular seemed pretty similar to me.
  16. Did anyone catch the all-star red carpet show? Mrs. Glavine was seen briefly, but I missed most of it and didn't see Mrs. LoDuca or Mrs. Beltran. NY Times article today notes that Reyes has a girlfriend that he is living with.
  17. Wright 2 Beltran 2 Hoffman -10 Cabrera -2
  18. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Thanks a fucking lot, Cabrera. Din't it look like he had a better shot at that? That was my thought. That sure as hell wasn't an all-star effort. Also strange that Andruw Jones wasn't brought into the OF for defense in the 9th. Carlos Lee? You gotta be kidding me.
  19. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Thanks for all the bumps, Gwreck. You may want to edit your July 2 (vs the Yankees) vote before I tally: you voted for Lo Duca twice. That probably wasn't what you intended. No problem, I intended to bump them all up but then realized I missed voting for about half of them anyway... ...and I fixed that 7/2 vote, thanks.
  20. Forget the RBIs, the Mets only have 2 extra base hits in ASG play. Mazilli's HR, and a double by Lance Johnson. Johnson (3-4, 1 R, 1 2B) in '96, Harrelson in '70 (2-3, 2 R) and Mazilli's HR are the only offense ever worth writing home about.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: For a season or two in the early or mid-90s, one of the rotating signs on the upper right of the Shea scoreboard was for Pergament: Hit this sign, we'll paint your house. Nobody ever hit it. (It was before Mo Vaughn.) Now that you mention it, I don't think any Met between Darryl and Mo Vaughn ever hit the upper part of the scoreboard.
  22. A double check of the ticket stubs and retrosheet provides us with: June 26, 2002. Bottom of the 8th, off Kevin Gryboski Solo HR. 505 feet, off the middle of the Budweiser sign.
  23. Nymr83 wrote: now thats a HUGE target but i doubt it gets hit more than once or twice a year because of its location and height Far less than that. Try once or twice every 5 years. I don't think anyone's hit it since Mo Vaughn in July 2002 vs. the Braves.
  24. Reyes 1 LoDuca 1 Valentin .5 Beltran .5
