  1. Megill was unable to complete the 5th inning last night for Syracuse. 4 IP, 6 hits/2 walks, 5 strikeouts, 3 earned runs. 79 pitches.
  2. Lots of interesting stuff in the latest from Will Sammon of The Athletic: http:// https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6593785/2025/09/02/new-york-mets-kodai-senga-decisions/ 1. This weekend in Cincinnati is lining up as the focus for pitching: Peterson and Tong are being flipped, with Peterson going Friday (5 days rest) and Tong on Saturday (7 days rest). 2. McLean is being considered for the Sunday game (4 days rest), meaning neither Senga nor Manaea would pitch in Cincinnati. 3. Mets are considering that Senga consent to a minor league assignment. Based on ML service time, he has options — but his contract includes a provision that he cannot be assigned to the minors without his consent. * * * Not stated in the article is what will happen for the 4 game series in Philadelphia. Holmes and Peterson will certainly start two of those games, but the other two are up in the air: Manaea would obviously be rested for any of the games; Tong could pitch the Thursday finale on 4 days rest; Sproat could be called up; Megill is eligible to be recalled — but his recent start in Syracuse was crap).
  3. That makes more sense then — Young effectively replaces Taylor and Herget replacing Waddell, and the Mets not going with one less pitcher.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Phillies are oddly off today, will resume in Milwaukee tomorrow Monday was the 18th consecutive day on which the Brewers were scheduled to play. Per the basic agreement, no team can be scheduled for 20 days in a row without an off day, so playing Mon-Tue-Wed and having the off day Thursday wasn't an option. Instead, they played yesterday to make sure there was a Labor Day game, and then had the off day today. An (all-too-rare?) example of baseball doing the right thing for the fans.
  5. With Young coming up for Waddell, the Mets are — possibly for the first time since the rule was changed (?) — going with a roster that contains fewer than the maximum allowed number of pitchers.
  6. They will have no issue getting Sproat on, if necessary, since he would be an “injury replacement” for any number of players who would otherwise be eligible if not for injury — Minter, Canning, Kranick, et al. You may recall that Max Kranick himself was on the wild card round roster last year despite having never yet appeared for the Mets in the majors. The August 31 deadline is to have the player in your organization for eligibility. Which is why the Phillies had to get Buehler by then, the Cubs with Santana, etc.
  7. =Lundy post_id=202935 time=1756693877 user_id=101]As we got close to the gate, I pulled up the Ballpark app and attempted to load our tickets. They wouldn't load. Fortunately the Mets got wind of a system-wide problem with the MLB app and sent a bunch of minion employees to help everyone navigate to our tickets. But I still couldn't load them, so I was directed to the ticket windows, where they would help. Problem was, those lines were already 12 deep at least. So the early arrival to the park didn't matter, I was caught in ticketing hell.
  8. San Diego lost, which means the Mets are two behind for the #5 seed (functionally 3, as the Padres are very likely to have the tiebreak because of the series sweep by SD earlier this year — Mets still will play 3 with SD in New York later in September). This is a year in which the #5 seed is desirable over #6 (probably wasn't that way last year). The #5 seed still plays on the road in the WC game but plays the #4 seed (currently: Cubs) rather than the division winner without a bye (most likely Dodgers or Phillies).
  9. Edgy MD wrote: I prefer they use Mauricio to pinch-hit against righthanders. Rather than whom? I'd use Mauricio against a righty ahead of Taylor and Torrens. No chance though that I'd use him before Marte, who has significant better numbers (including against righties).
  10. 1. Maybe he's hurt. Send him to the IL if possible. 2. Send him to the bullpen otherwise. I'm sure there's a way for him to be valuable to the team but he can't be starting more games right now.
  11. I guess if the team's best starter and its best reliever are going to have crap outings, may as well have them on the same day. The continued inability to put away bad teams is a real frustration.
  12. Braves lost to Philly. Cincinnati lost in 10 with the clown car rules. Minnesota has a big lead over San Diego, so Mets may well end the day +5 ahead of Cincinnati but also only 2 behind San Diego for the #5 seed.
  13. They can't win every game and there is always going to be the occasional bad game…but this team has to do more against the bad teams. 15-15 against the bad teams in the East isn't going to cut it. 4-3 vs MIA 5-8 vs ATL 6-4 vs WAS
  14. I’ve wondered why the change in terminology was embraced such that they are now more frequently called “opt-outs” rather than “player options.”
  15. I assume it has to be more people the first week because there are more matches, there are night sessions in multiple stadiums, etc.
  16. I understood that there is a positional adjustment in WAR calculations as well. Vientos has played a significant amount of time at DH and Baty has played almost exclusively in the field. His value over a replacement player is necessarily lesser because it’s easiest to “replace” someone at DH than anywhere else.
  17. =DocTee post_id=202609 time=1756385869 user_id=85]I saw a post about next year's schedule, where the Mets have a rare off day in Philadelphia on a Friday owing to a football game next door and the terrible parking situation (I think they share a lot?) but it would be good for the schedule makers to consider sending the Mets on a West Coast trip when the Open is in town: traffic was absurd.
  18. Cincinnati lost. Mets are 4.5 ahead of them for final wild card spot. Mets are now also 4 back of the Cubs for the #4 seed.
  19. Now 4 back, and a win in the season series to claim the tiebreak should it matter.
  20. Christian Scott might still technically have a claim to that number given his spot on the 40 man roster. Putting a new star pitching prospect in 48 is an intriguing idea, however.
  21. Yes. Jankowski wore 21 for the Mets earlier this year.
  22. =MFS62 post_id=202544 time=1756326285 user_id=60] Looking at that lineup reminds me that I heard that Winker and Siri will be starting their first rehab games today for St. Lucie (low A). I'm not sure if they would replace anyone full time, but maybe Winker could platoon with Marte.
  23. =MFS62 post_id=202521 time=1756313628 user_id=60] He's going to have to move Stanek out of that lowest leverage appearance spot in the bullpen.
  24. Sigh. Manfred.
