  1. WAR leaderboard - entire MLB career with NYM 1. David Wright, 49.1 2. Brandon Nimmo, 26.4 3. Jeff McNeil, 22.6 4. Pete Alonso, 22.5 5. David Peterson, 8.0 6. Kodai Senga, 7.0 7. 2. Don't misquote me. I said Vientos has shown that he can hit in but that he hasn't done so this year. Anyway, you're not alone in the “hope these guys can figure it out” camp. You have David Stearns in agreement with that plan too.
  3. =roger_that post_id=200746 time=1754749286 user_id=128]and the bottom of the order is excellent, at least potentially and often in practice.
  4. …and it's two outs in the 9th inning and that's the tying run. You might not make the substitution in the 7th or 8th, since you're going to need another player to hit in that spot in the order if it comes up again. But when it is literally a score-here-or-you-lose moment, you use the best weapons you have.
  5. Statcast: Tyrone Taylor is 95th percentile in sprint speed in MLB this year. Marte is 28th percentile
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: But I don't know if anyone currently on the bench would have made a difference. Isn't Taylor faster than Acuna?
  7. Is Tyrone Taylor hurt? Otherwise I'm ok firing Mendoza
  8. =Centerfield post_id=200707 time=1754704420 user_id=65] Does anyone really believe we're going to tie this game?
  9. https://www.mlb.com/stats/team Sorted by OPS, and then used positional splits.
  10. There was an awful lot of winning in 2022 and 2024, and despite the recent swoon, they’re still in position to make the playoffs again in 2025. That would make 3 good-to-excellent seasons out of 5…not exactly bad.
  11. The easy answer is that those three guys only have 35 percent of the plate appearances this year, and the Mets are giving an equal amount of plate appearances to players who don’t hit (Vientos, Baty, Taylor, Torrens, Acuna, plus Young/Senger/Siri, etc). Lindor is quietly having a “down” year, by his standards at least. He’s got the lowest OPS in his Mets career since 2021. As for the Mets production compared to the league, the positional splits are telling to me: they’re getting far below average production at 4 positions. C: 24th 1B: 7th 2B: 21st 3B: 20th SS: 13th LF: 8th CF: 29th RF: 5th DH: 12th
  12. This got lost among the trade deadline but the answers are: 1. George Thomas Seaver, 76.1 WAR 2. Charles Sidney Fernandez, 27.6 3. Walter Kevin McReynolds, 15.8 4. Ronald Wayne Garrett, 13.9 5. Otis Bernard Gilkey, 10.3 6. Keith Lance Johnson, 8.7 7. Jacob Seth Lugo, 8.4 8. Cornelius Clifford Floyd, 7.7 —- Other notables: Lynn Nolan Ryan, 2.9 Herman Timmy Davis 2.7 Charles Ray Knight, 2.4
  13. I recall Anderson Garcia, a pitching prospect who the Mets acquired when trading away Benitez, spent a few days on the active roster in 2006 but never got into a game. He eventually pitched in one career MLB game for the Phillies (but never with the Mets).
  14. Maybe the Mets should call up both Carson Benge and Jett Williams. Something needs to change with this offense.
  15. Torrens yes. But for Mullins? I guess Mauricio could be used?
  16. The Athletic reported today that the Mets were one of the teams with the most interest in Byron Buxton but were told that he would not waive his no-trade clause and wanted to remain with Minnesota.
  17. Yes — not that I can recall — and: his numbers are pretty similar to where Conforto's were when he was called up. Conforto, 2015, age 22: 206 PAs in St. Lucie, 7-28-.283/.350/.462 197 PAs in Binghamton, 5-26-.312/.396/.503 Williams, 2025, age 21: 398 PAs in Binghamton, 10-36-.278/.388/.482
  18. =Centerfield post_id=200427 time=1754448467 user_id=65]Unfortunately there's no hitter that's ready enough to call up to get them going.
  19. On June 12, the Mets completed a sweep of Washington to go 21 games over .500, at 45-24 and were up 5.5 on the Phillies. Since then: 18-27, and lost 7 games in the division race.
  20. Holmes had 75 pitches through 5 and was pulled! Unless he's on some sort of undisclosed pitch count/limit, I can't make sense of that decision.
  21. =Centerfield post_id=200355 time=1754422429 user_id=65] Really? Tyrone Taylor? Cedric Mullins has reverse splits this year. Or just let Ronny get some RH at-bats and put McNeil in center. Holmes is a sinker ball pitcher anyway.
  22. So we have four "primaries" with OBPs under .300 and the team is still in playoff contention. It's better examined by looking at plate appearances: Vientos: 303 PA, .281 OBP Taylor: 298 PA, .254 OBP Baty: 293 PA, .291 OBP Torrens: 218 PA, .284 OBP Acuna: 175 PA, .295 OBP Taylor should probably be gotten rid of altogether—how much worse would McNeil be at this point? McNeil plays everyday already. Dumping Taylor in favor of Acuna is a possibility but doesn't do much for the offense. They could bring up one of the farmhands in Syracuse — a Joey Meneses, a Gilberto Celestino — but they're not exactly top prospects. Maybe it's time to think seriously about a promotion directly from Binghamton, as was done with Conforto in 2015.
  23. It's a bad loss but c'mon, no need for Yankee-fan talk.
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Taylor would have made it but you can't know the relay was going to be dropped. And you can't take that chance for Soto + Alonso coming up. Except that even if the perfect throw nails Taylor at the plate, the winning run is still on second (maybe third if Lindor advances on the throw). Bad job to not send him.
  25. Again, there were all sorts of other problems, but I am nevertheless compelled to point out how awful Rob Manfred and his clown car extra inning rules are.
