  1. Yeah, I don’t think Mullins (or Robert) is the answer here.
  2. They do? Adrian Beltre was holding down third base there for a number of years.
  3. Heading into today, the Mets rank 17th among MLB teams (8th among NL teams) in runs scored. The bullpen upgrades are great, but this is where the most meaningful upgrades will happen. I’d like to see Brandon Lowe and Ramon Laureano as Mets before the day is over. Thanks, Stearns!
  4. The Mariners sent their #9, 16, and 17 prospects to Arizona in the deal.
  5. Yes, using the commonly accepted definition that a “rental” means a player acquired via trade with no team control beyond the current season.
  6. He’s good. This is his 4th excellent year in a row. From the Athletic: “Helsley had posted a 3.00 ERA over 36 games (21 saves), with 41 strikeouts in 36 innings. Helsley’s fastball ranks in the 99th percentile in average velocity (99.3 miles per hour). Both his chase rate and whiff rates are over 30 percent and he’s struck out roughly a quarter of his total batters faced this year.”
  7. Stearns paid full price but this is an acquisition the Mets needed. Solid “like.”
  8. Acquired from the Cardinals.
  9. I’m open to other offensive upgrades even if I think Suarez is the best option.
  10. Gilbert turns 25 in September and is now in his second year at AAA, with a .785 OPS in 81 games. He probably could be in the majors now or next year. He is subject to the Rule 5 draft in the offseason too if he’s not added to the 40 man roster.
  11. That’s a hefty price for a guy who’s a FA at the end of the year.
  12. Led NL in games pitched in 2020, 2021, 2024 and currently leading in 2035.
  13. There’s a team missing from this list that I’d have liked to seen here
  14. Not quite a FA. He comes with team options for 2026 and 2027, at $20M each year.
  15. I wouldn’t call it a salary dump — it’s a couple months left on a $4M annual contract — basically a rounding error for the Mets. It’s more that he’s going to time out from his rehab assignment and thus the Mets have to activate or release him, so they’re trying to grab any value they can for him.
  16. Premiere hitter High leverage reliever (Additional SP) This game makes clear what Stearns needs to do take this time from “likely playoff participant” to “legit shot to win it all.”
  17. Yeah. If he couldn't anticipate that a key offensive situation might develop ahead of the #3 spot in the lineup in the remaining 5 innings of the game…that's not a good look. So he burns his only backup outfielder and has to play McNeil and Marte both out there for the rest of the game (or burn another player and use another infielder in the outfield). When the alternative was playing Marte there for a few innings and then still having Taylor available for later if needed. Just dumb all around.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Wow! Taylor gets one inning on defense, and then gets pinch-hit for. This appears to be a huge unforced error by Mendoza. Makes no sense whatsoever.
  19. This is the last late night game of the year. There's one 8:10 start in a couple weeks but everything else is 7:40 or earlier (until the playoffs).
  20. =MFS62 post_id=199540 time=1753791583 user_id=60] I wonder if he'll bench Vientos or Mauricio in the next game. Or both.
  21. Forget any on-field qualms that may exist with what he’s done to the game, Manfred is the guy who said that lockouts at the end of CBA terms should be the “new norm” and that they are a “positive.” And now he’s going around telling players how they would have supposedly made more money with a salary cap. Maybe there’s more to it but that just doesn’t seem like a guy who’s operating in good faith.
  22. This was a bad loss.
  23. Pitcher fielding practice at 11 AM tomorrow. Until we can make these plays correctly.
  24. Soto for the 9th and…Raley for the 10th? Or Soto for both?
