  1. Maybe when the memorial opens at the WTC site. They can wear the caps on 9/11 forever as far as I'm concerned. But they need to stop singing the godawful "God Bless America" NOW!!! Really, if the Mets chose to do "America the Beautiful" (a *vastly* superior song) instead of "God Bless America," what would happen? How could anybody complain?
  2. Who pitches it? Oliver Perez or John Maine?
  3. I'll concede Ibanez. I would put Young at 2B if the rules allowed.
  4. 1. I'm slightly disappointed this wasn't titled the "Official Steve J. Rogers thread." (Just kidding Steve! Sort of.) 2. I'm surprised that this would actually be considered. Getting concert equipment into Shea is a logistical mess, considering that construction would still be ongoing at Citifield. Shea was considered initially for the NY Live Earth event but it wasn't possible. 3. Seems very unlikely that a show would be allowed to happen late in the season if the Mets were in the playoff hunt. Springsteen wanted Yankee Stadium for his '03 tour in mid September but they wouldn't allow the show because of the fact that it would destroy the field (the shows wound up being done at Rentschler Field in Hartford)...which would mean... 4. Outdoor concerts in late October/early November* in New York? Yarright. *God willing.

  6. Does the "fear" of Bordreaux D. Nutria = a prediction of Zephyr greatness? Because they are playing for that PCL championship...

  11. Aaron Heilman = my new hero.
  12. I don't see Green or Valentin returning, but a Moises/Beltran/Milledge outfield would seem to be just fine. Gomez can return to AAA and get called up when Moises goes on his inevitable DL stint. I actually think the chances of LoDuca staying are higher than we might think. Have you seen a list of FA catchers? Aside from Posada (who is about as old as LoDuca), it's total crap.
  13. In all fairness to LaRussa, didn't somebody recently do a study that there is a potential benefit to having a real hitter 9th -- and that the downside of having the pitcher's spot come up slightly more often is negligible? I can't find it via search but thought I read it here...
  14. I'd much prefer that San Diego take the division, giving us Arizona in the first round. I'd like our chances better against San Diego in the 7 game series rather than the 5 game series. The only way we could play an NL central team would be if the Phillies got the wild card. I don't really want that to happen.

Johnny Dickshot wrote: If we want to see one of these teams in the 1st round of the playoffs I think we have to root for the Phillies to win the WC, assuming we have best record which I thnk we will. No? Yes. ]I'm kinda worried that whoever winds up being the Wild Card will be a hot team for us to face right away. Eh. My bigger worry is that if we get San Diego as a wild card team, they have Peavy and Young pitching at least 3 of the 5 games.
  20. Dickshot, do you have cable? Ours is out.
  21. Gil Hodges was honored tonight in a pregame ceremony as he was inducted into the US Marines Sports Hall of Fame. Gil's widow Joan was present, along with several Mets (Seaver, Harrelson, Swoboda, Kranepool, Ed Charles). Nice pregame ceremony. Seaver (who is also in the US Marines Sports Hall of Fame) spoke about Hodges, calling him the "most influential person" on his baseball career. -- Gomez was called up today. He had been playing in NOLA the last couple of days. -- Reyes was *really* excited to have that triple. Looked like he knew it had been quite a while since his last big hit. -- Endy made a spectacular running catch in the top of the 7th. Beltran (who had also run towards the ball) was surprised that Endy had gotten there, gave him a nice pat on the back afterwards. -- I'd been to a lot of games this year but this was the first real ass-whoopin I've seen all year.
  22. Apparently Brooklyn won on a walk-off Balk in the 11th inning.
  23. Apparently he rec'd a year's shipment of it in 2004... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2007/09/06/2007-09-06_ankiel_received_12month_supply_of_hgh_ne.html

  25. Other strange ones: The 1-0 victories on 4/29/07 (at WAS) and 6/23/07 (vs. OAK). Most puzzling perhaps because one would think that a. Not a whole lot of points earned by the offense; and b. Even if the starting pitcher got 6, there wasn't a whole point available for pitching a scoreless inning to end the game?
