  1. Valadius wrote: Dumb things McCarver said yesterday: "Jose Reyes is one of the 10 best players of the last 50 years" He said he was one of the 10 most exciting. Not best.
  2. I just watched it on the DVR (sorry Edgy, don't have the equipment necessary to make a recording of it) and have to agree with Centerfield and Greg's thoughts. I was never a huge fan of McCarver or Kiner but the memories of watching them on WWOR Channel 9 did come right back. It was a remarkable transformation to see McCarver drop 90% of the buffonery when he moved back to play by play. Of course, he did refer to Jose Reyes as "the catalytic converter of the Mets machine" which probably goes somewhere in the 20-50 range of the dumbest things McCarver's said on the air. Was a very nice touch of Fox to have Albert's microphone turned off for the inning.
  3. OHernandez 3.5 Wright 2 Delgado 1.5 Heilman 1 Conine 1 Beltran 1
  4. With the Mets win and both Philly and Atlanta losing, it's down to 28. We also have a 7 game lead.
  5. Perez 4.25 Wright 2 Milledge 1 Gotay 1 DiFelice .75 Feliciano .5 Anderson .5
  6. Mets win; Phils lose. Braves win to tie Phils for 6 back. 30
  7. I just looked at the tape of the game and agree that the first two were poor decisions/execution by Gotay.
  8. I'm pretty sure they don't have a Sandler video. They do have a Robin Williams video (in Spanish, I think) that was used on Merengue night but not tonight.
  9. 3 strategy goofs by Willie: 1. The aforementioned bunt by DiFelice when there were no outs and two men on. 2. The bunt by Gotay in the 3rd. Let him hit. 3. The double steal in the first with Gotay as the lead runner. Fiesta Latina (like Merengue Night) tends to bring a fair number of people to the park who appear more interested in the concert than the game (ie. showing up in the 6th inning, etc). Lots of stupidness/moronity as a result. Wouldn't have gone but for the good pitching matchup. Glad to see Oliver getting a solid outing for the first time in what seems like a while.
  10. #46, Oliver Perez.
  11. DiFelice?
  12. Nice job. Thanks for putting it together. I got 3 of the 18 without looking at the names on the list. Once I started looking at the names, I think I got about 12-14 correct. Unintended lookalikes: Before I looked at the list of names, I had Moises Alou as I. and Pedro Feliciano as IX. III. and VIII. are the two best likenesses, I think.
  13. Anderson 3 Feliciano 2 Green 1.5 Beltran 1 Wright 1 Schoeneweis 1
  14. Beltran 3 Wright 2 Anderson 1 Conine 1 Schoeneweis .5
  15. Mets, Phils and Braves all lose. 32
  16. I'm glad we're hitting but I'm really concerned about the bullpen. Aaron Heilman's habit of giving up home runs in the worst possible situation is a big problem, IMO. Feliciano and Schoeneweis have been encouraging lately, and Wagner I can brush off as a temporary struggle but I still don't think we have a good 7th/8th inning coverage. Worries me.
  17. Cincy/ATL are also in bonusbaseball.
  18. I think Beltran ends it with a homer here. Edit: Well, unless they intentionally walk him.
  19. I know we already burned Gotay but I still might think about using a PH for Alomar here.
  20. ...and he comes through with the 2-RBI single!
  21. Green at the plate now as the tying run.
  22. Hmm. At least it wasn't a double play.
