  1. All 3 of those other leads were given back by the starters: One of those games was the 4-run lead that Perez gave back against the Cardinals last week. One was against San Diego, where Maine gave up 5 runs in the third inning after the Mets got him 3 in the first. One was Perez's first start against Cincinnati, where the Mets gave him a 3-0 lead and the next half inning he gave 5 back to the Reds.
  2. That was my thought too. I think there's been too much bullpen used so far this year. I'm not really upset that the 'pen gave this game away, because we didn't really have any 'pen meltdowns yet this year, and every team is going to have a game or two that their bullpen gives away over the course of the season. But Jerry needs to have his starters man up a little and take care of things rather than running to the 'pen at the first sign of trouble.
  3. Right now they have the two WS flags and two NL Pennant flags flying. I would also be fine with flags for '88 and '06, personally.
  4. Stokes .5 Feliciano .5
  5. I have an extra ticket (gratis) for Tuesday night's showdown with the Marlins if anybody is in need of one, or just wants to go...
  6. Yabbut -- there were already 2 outs. Check out this story about the game. I saw the signs get taken down but 10 security guards? Geez.
  7. Bottom 7, 2 men on with 2 outs and right hander Jason Bergmann pitching. Sheffield bats instead of Church. Sheffield gets pulled at the end of inning and the defensive replacement is...Church. Maybe Jerry doesn't realize that Church is hitting two hundred points better than Sheffield. That's gotta be the reason, right? Also thought it was strange that Acta walked Beltran intentionally in the 8th with 2 outs and a righty up to get to Delgado. Maybe the matchup numbers were favoring the pitcher. Parnell's fastest pitch was 98 on the stadium gun. Was not in favor of lifting him for Feliciano. Seemed like a low fan IQ night, what with booing of the wrong things (as pointed out here with Castro's error) and the wave during Putz' big 8th inning.
  8. Wow this was bad. What happened to our starting pitching?
  9. Wright 2 Castillo 1.25 Delgado 1.25 Castro 1.25 Green 1.25 Sheffield 1 Parnell 1 Putz 1
  10. Reyes 1.75 Murphy 1.75 Figueroa 1.5 Green 1 Beltran 1 Santos 1 Sheffield .5 Feliciano .33
  11. Delgado 3 Castro 2 O'Day 1 Stokes 1 Feliciano 1 Rodriguez 1
  12. Santana 5.5 Putz 1 Rodriguez 1 Reyes 1 Castillo 1 Church .5
  13. Castillo 1 Stokes 1 Feliciano 1 Wright 1 Reyes 1
  14. I'm down with the benching of Murphy and Beltran tonight. Just really bad baserunning to go with Murphy's really bad fielding. Jeremy Reed could use a start.
  15. I think we're getting off topic. I put the Rotunda in the "not worth writing about" from a purely pragmatic perspective. I doubt anyone really thinks they're going to change it.
  16. I know. But they are everywhere else. Seems strange that they couldn't be bothered to put them in.
  17. I think a letter writing campaign is a great idea. In my opinion: Things that are worth writing about: 1. Obstructed view seats - railing/plexiglass blocking views for Promenade Reserved seats 2. Lack of Mets history/hall of fame 3. Tarps obscuring bullpens 4. New restrictions to batting practice access 5. Lack of urinal dividers in restrooms 6. Deceptive promotion of club access Things that are not worth writing about: 1. Jackie Robinson rotunda 2. Color of outfield walls Not sure: 1. Inability to see parts of the outfield from seats in the outfield. I haven't sat there. (I don't plan to, either). Also am unsure about how that could even be fixed.
  18. The comment about everybody having a club to go was made by Kevin Burkhardt. Jeff didn't correct him.
  19. I get your perspective just fine. Use of the word "you" suggests the commentary was on others.
  20. ="Elster88":35zbx1nh]Stop pandering.[/quote:35zbx1nh] It's not pandering. The Mets desperately need to get rid of those uniforms.
  21. ="Benjamin Grimm":7ssos7v8]="G-Fafif":7ssos7v8]="Benjamin Grimm":7ssos7v8]If a Mets loss can put you in a bad mood, then you're caring too much.[/quote:7ssos7v8] If a Mets win can put you in a good mood, does that also mean you're caring too much?[/quote:7ssos7v8] No, it means you have found the proper balance. Each win during the 2006 post-season thrilled me. But after Beltran took that third strike, I went to bed and slept soundly. No angst, no tooth-gnashing. It's just a game. And it's being played by a bunch of strangers. We're all (mostly) middle-aged here. We should have attained a certain amount of perspective by now.[/quote:7ssos7v8] Maybe it's just me -- or the limitations of written text versus speech -- but my reaction after reading this is that you're being way too preachy. I'll react exactly how I care to feel when the Mets lose or win, thank you very much. There's no need to pass judgment on how people root for their team (unless they're claiming to be both Mets and Yankees fans). I suppose I could respond that if you went to bed after that Game 7 loss like it was any other night, then you didn't care enough. Instead, I'll offer that true perspective is the ability to realize that not everybody is going to care the same exact amount as you are, and that difference is not cause to pass judgment. metirish Apr 20 2009 11:54 AM I kind of thought CF was being a bit tongue in cheek. Benjamin Grimm Apr 20 2009 12:03 PM I'm not passing judgment, just offering my own perspective. If you think I don't care enough, that's fine, but I think it's better to care less than to care more. And I seem to care less this year than ever before. I even thought (very briefly) about shutting down the UMDB rather than gear up for the 2009 season, but since maintaining the site doesn't require that much daily effort, I dismissed that thought. Gwreck Apr 20 2009 12:07 PM I get your perspective just fine. Use of the word "you" suggests the commentary was on others. Benjamin Grimm Apr 20 2009 12:16 PM Well, then I apologize if I sounded preachy. That wasn't my intent. John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 20 2009 12:17 PM Pretty sure CF's intent was to make LOLZ Centerfield Apr 20 2009 12:26 PM By "you", he might have been referring specifically to me. Since I have stated before that I would love to get to where Grimm is in dealing with losses. The problem is I have been trying since 2006 and making very little progress. They key, of course, is that I don't want to feel any less good about wins. Which means this is probably a waste of time. The guys are right, losses in April don't really get to me that much, and this was just a DPMJFL, but Sunday losses really do suck more than others for the reasons mentioned above. If you're going to win two out of three in a weekend series, win Friday night, lose Saturday night, then win on Sunday afternoon. themetfairy Apr 20 2009 01:02 PM Since I have a Sunday-ish plan this year, I'm wholly in favor of CF's strategy. themetfairy Apr 26 2009 06:08 AM I'm hoping they heed CF's sound advice today. Kong76 Apr 26 2009 10:23 AM Hi, my name is Kong76, and I am a Metsaholic. I lose sleep sometimes after a win because I get all wound up. I lose sleep sometimes after a loss because, well, they sucked. Sometimes I wake up with last nights game in my mind instead of the brunette on the second floor with the big bazambas. Sometimes I wake up muttering, "bunting is for losers" or, "man on third with no fucking outs and we can't plate the bastard?" Don't even get me started on Looper. I plan my work, social, family, and most everything around the Mets TV and game attending schedule. I can quit anytime ... but can't think of a good enough reason to. Where's the remote? The Fish/Phils game is on early today. Ashie62 Apr 26 2009 01:43 PM ="themetfairy":7plgjsgz]I'm hoping they heed CF's sound advice today.[/quote:7plgjsgz] Maybe next week Mets Fairy, maybe next week...(weep) Frayed Knot May 03 2009 02:05 PM A no-loss Sunday!!
  22. Already ordered mine.
  23. Let's not be undervaluing Parnell in the 4/15 game. A scoreless inning while protecting a 1-run lead is pretty big. I can understand Parnell getting the same value as Putz, but Putz getting points while Parnell doesn't? Or Green getting the same as Parnell? Or Parnell only getting half a point? Seems strange.
  24. Perez 3 Delgado 2 Beltran 1.5 Parnell 1 Reyes 1 Murphy 1 Putz .5
  25. I guess it depends on the security guards. I had no problem getting food in -- in bags -- the last few years. Seems to me they even supplied clear plastic bags at the gate so you could transfer your stuff into those rather than the bag you brought it in.
