  1. Pitching this Tuesday at Wrigley. Gee to DL
  2. Omir Santos?
  3. They "have" to fight the issue now because it would come up again if/when he hits 714; and there's still a decent chance he reaches that number. I do agree that it would be cheaper to pay now though, because I don't think the Yankees should win this dispute.
  4. I wonder about using Mayberry here to pinch hit for Murphy.
  5. Another person on the correct side of this issue: Adam Wainwright says adding the DH to the National League is a stupid idea. Asked his response to those who argue that the NL should adopt the DH, Wainwright replied: "I couldn't disagree more with that." He then explained why. "I just think baseball is a National League game. I wish both leagues would convert to National League baseball. And I understand why people would say that, but you can't point to another instance, almost, where the pitcher has hurt [his] Achilles doing that kind of thing. Running the bases? Maybe once or twice a year. Maybe. "Baseball, the strategy and the game itself in the National League is just a better game, in my opinion. I hope that people don't look at this -- which I know they already are --- and think that we should switch to a DH now. Baseball is a beautiful game. I just hope it doesn't change too much."
  6. Madison Bumgarner, on the correct side of this issue. "What if he got hurt pitching? Should we say we can't pitch anymore? I hate what happened to him. He works his butt off out there. But I don't think it was because he was hitting. What if he gets hurt getting out of his truck? You tell him not to drive anymore? That's the way the game has to be played. I appreciate both sides of the argument and I get it. But [ending pitcher plate appearances] isn't the way to go about [addressing] it." "It's a beautiful game to me the way it is. That's obviously the way baseball started and I'm a traditional guy. I'm not much for change. I know people argue both sides, but for me, from what I see, it's a more challenging game. It's more challenging for managers. There's so much more that goes into it in the National League than, 'let 'em pitch until they can't get outs anymore.'"
  7. dgwphotography wrote: I don't think it was a coincidence that they disappeared as soon as Charlie Samuels was shown the door. To the contrary, I believe. First, Charlie Samuels was shown the door in November 2010. Black uniforms were still around in 2011. Second, I actually had a chance to chat with Charlie a few years back (he was on the field pre-game near the stands and I engaged him in conversation). His take on the uniforms was that black was far and away the players' favorite. He also revealed that it was no coincidence that for "big" games, he would have the Mets in blue hats and pinstripes (think, for example, NLCS Game 7 in 2006, or the final day of the season in 2007, etc.)
  8. This is the first baseball rule change I can ever think of that could have a real, consequential diminishment of my love for the game (and would lead to spending far less of my money on it).
  9. That Cuddyer GIDP in the 5th is looking like the Foxwoods Resort Casino Turning Point of the Game.
  10. This is unreal. What the hell is wrong with these guys? How did they win 14 games?
  11. This is really ugly. And yet, we're still not out of it.
  12. Why exactly is Murphy at second and Muno at DH again?
  13. They were an abomination. Very happy to see them gone.
  14. Always fun to come away with a victory at the House of Evil. More Mets fans there than in past years; might have been as much as 30% of the crowd today. Lots of cheering but no incidents (side note, who thought bat day was a good idea for this game?). I would have pulled Harvey after 7 innings. No sense having him pitch extra when the game was generally decided. Then when he had the quick 8th, I figured that was enough too. (He wasn't protecting a shutout anyway). Props to Yankee Stadium security for quickly responding to some d-bag fans in my section. I am a big fan of the text-message narc line at the ballparks. Dropped a dime on them, including their exact seat location and wouldn't you know it, security was there in less than 3 minutes, gave them a stern warning and marked their tickets that any future misbehavior would result in an ejection.
  15. Niese (and he had a point, that was a really bad first-strike call on Lagares).
  16. This is where we get back into the game. Right now.
  17. deGrom: 8 flyball/line drive outs to outfield. Compare to 1 infield popup; 1 ground ball; 1 strikeout; 1 out on the basepaths. They're not fooled tonight. I wouldn't put him back out for the 5th.
  18. Not sure what he's waiting for here. Another fucking homer? It's enough. Why stop at 6? Let's have him let up 8 or 9 runs and make a comeback impossible.
  19. Terry, I think that's enough of deGrom for tonight.
  20. Apologies to FMan, but I think this goes too far. There are so many things to make fun of the Yankees for that it seems unfortunate this is where we went. Reading this just makes me uncomfortable. I think a line has been crossed.
  21. Tough to hit cheap homeruns when deGrom will be striking them out instead.
  22. Paging Mr. Granderson...
  23. Plus we have our two best starters (no offense, Bartolo) going this series as well. I agree, we are going to lose a game eventually. But anything less than 2-1 this series isn't ok.
