These nine --Jim Bibby, Randy Bobb, Billy Cotton, Gerry Moses, Terrell Hansen, Mac Suzuki, Justin Speier, Anderson Garcia and Ruddy Lugo, are technically, not considered Mets. What about players who were on the active 40-man roster in September but never got into a game? I'm thinking of Al Reyes, September 2008.
  2. Shouldn't we be using D'Arnaud (or at least Campbell) instead of Granderson there?
  3. 2007: lost one-game playoff for Wild card 2010: finished second, missed Wild card by one game 2008-09 and 2011-14: 6 losing seasons. Tough break for him but that's a long time to go without making the playoffs. Only other teams to not make playoffs from 2007-present: Mets, Marlins, Blue Jays, Astros, Mariners
  4. I can't find any reference to the corresponding roster move that's being made.
  5. Speaking of former Mets, R.A. Dickey will pitch Thursday in Toronto against Jon Niese. Credit for signing Dickey goes to Omar Minaya's regime, but the trade of Dickey to Toronto easily looks like Sandy Alderson's best move as Mets GM to date. Dickey is having a tough year, with a 5.29 ERA in 13 starts so far. He was 14-13 with a 3.71 ERA last year. Josh Thole, who also went to Toronto in that deal, is in the minors. Mike Nickeas has retired from professional baseball. The Mets' haul from that deal was D'Arnaud and Syndergaard (plus the $6M we paid John Buck to keep a spot on the roster warm for most of 2013).
  6. Danny Muno, your flight to Las Vegas departs JFK at 9:30. Don't be late. Parnell was at 91-92. Nice to see him pitching again but he does not look the same. I advocate hitting Freeman with pitches tomorrow. Does less damage.
  7. In other news, Milwaukee is putting a hurting on the Nationals tonight. 7-2 in the 5th.
  8. Walking Recker to get to Bartolo. Doesn't Bartolo actually have a higher batting average?
  9. D'Arnaud is not playing tonight, as reported by Rubin.
  10. Yes, no team ever suffers injuries and it's [crossout:bhxq8eae]a good idea[/crossout:bhxq8eae] acceptable to plan as if your starters will be healthy all year instead of having some efficient redundancy.
  11. he's stated repeatedly he's not comfortable there. What Terry should say in response to this: "Wah wah wah. What a baby. I don't care if you're not 'comfortable.' You're getting $8.5 million dollars, you'll fucking play catcher if we tell you to."
  12. Forget the Kernan stuff. The quote from Sandy was telling: "Was 2014 always a target year? Yeah. It should be an important year for us." Well, he missed on that. That's worthy of discussion. So is discussion of the Mets' failure to get sufficent offense. It's not second-guessing to point out now that the Mets are offensively starved when it was clear that they were short on offense following what was done to the team in the offseason. I'm sure that the Mets' financial picture is more complicated than pointed out in this or any other Megdal article but the results still speak volumes. I agree with TransMonk. I don't really care if Megdal's articles are a "one-trick pony;" there's still a valid point being made.
  13. It may be happening anyway. There was not a big crowd in the so-called "Matt Kave" last night.
  14. Nymr83 wrote: We interrupt tonight's game with another update from Curtis, currently 2 for 3 with a walk and a double Yabbut: His first hit was off the wall in center field but he misread it and only got to first; He played a single into a double while in right (properly charged with an error) He was slow to get a double out of the corner, allowing a runner to score from first on a double (with less than 2 outs) Was thrown out at home in the first on a ball to short left. Last one might have been Teufel's fault but Curtis could still use a benching tomorrow.
  15. I recall that Justin Maxwell is one of those guys who always does well against the Mets (looks like a 1.059 OPS in 50 PAs). Seems to me there was a walk-off grand slam somewhere in there, when he was with the Nationals.
  16. Making the World Series (regardless of outcome) would deem this season a resounding success.
  17. Still 567. Cuddyer was the second batter of the inning, not the leadoff batter. I am still unhappy about Lucas' failure to bunt. That is the exact situation where he NEEDS to bunt for a hit. He's a professional, he can get the bunt down and if not, he needs to practice until he can.
  18. Right here, BUNT. We need baserunners. Fucking bunt if they are going to overshift.
  19. Because it's fun. And interesting. And they are making a big mistake by removing it.
  20. June 1, 2010: Jon Niese v. San Diego. Complete game, 1 hitter. Game score: 91. June 1, 2012: Johan. Game score: 90. Tonight, June 1, 2015: deGrom. Game score: 86. We should play more games on June 1.
  21. Back in first place.
  22. I enjoyed this article: http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/05/31/johan-santana-no-hitter-anniversary-new-york-mets-terry-collins
  23. The Padres had a rain delay in May. It was their fifth... ...in the history of Petco Park (which opened in 2004).
  24. First of a seven-game road trip. San Diego and Arizona are sub-.500 clubs, they play sub-.500 at home, and I don't want to hear any of the stupid self-fulfilling prophecies about how hard it is to win during west-coast road trips. Mets need to go ?5-2 on this stretch.
