  1. Brazoban is Dominican, no? He was their closer in the WBC I thought (again underscoring it was odd he never got any save chances with the Mets).
  2. Reasonable, but since he’s a free agent at the end of the year and the Mets don’t have meaningful games remaining with Philly, it’s a “meh” to me.
  3. For two prospects not in the White Sox‘ top 20. Not sure I understand why the guy with multiple seasons of team control is being traded.
  4. It’s almost as if you admit that sometimes moves that seem to make sense at the time don’t always work out
  5. Yeah, I thought the question was interesting too which is why I participated. I don’t think it should come as a surprise that the position (in sum and substance) “we shouldn’t trade anyone because it’s dehumanizing” got the response it did.
  6. Well, while not meaning to insult, that’s kind of a silly answer that ignores nuance and context, right? And if trading is bad in an “astounding” number of ways, one anecdote about childhood toxicity is such an odd choice as the only example to cite. And especially so because the situation the Mets find themselves is nowhere close to the “he sucks, trade him!” scenario. Instead it’s “he’s good, trade him so we can get value back instead of losing him to free agency and getting nothing back.” I could totally get on board with generally disfavoring offseason trades (Nimmo for Semien, anyone?), or taking on bad contracts (Cano) or trading prospects for in-season help. Even if sometimes you get back a Mike Hampton or Yoenis Cespedes or Keith Hernandez. But just a “I never want to make trades” — comes across as strange if not…petulant?
  7. Don't leave us hanging here. What’s the case for keeping Taylor?
  8. It’s irresponsible to not trade Taylor given his status as a free agent at the end of the year and that a trade can bring value to make the team better in the future. Robert is a tougher decision because of the option. Feels like a real roll of the dice either way because of the injuries.
  9. It’s Robert and it’s not particularly close: -Being “hot” means very little, especially when “hot” is a couple standard deviations above his career norms. -Robert comes with a year of not-expensive team control and a cheap buyout. -Robert, when healthy, is a better defensive outfielder than Taylor. -The money difference is significant, sure, but an acquiring team is only taking on <$10 M for Robert (remaining 2 months plus the buyout). That’s not so high as to be a hindrance for any team.
  10. Nice reunion ceremony before the game. All of the living members of the 1986 WS roster were there except Rick Aguilera.
  11. The classic double edged sword: -Senga is the most talented pitcher on the roster. Pitched at a Cy Young-winner level for a season and a half. Outside of Skubal, there’s no pitcher like that available in free agency or via trade. -All the rest of Senga’s time says he can’t be trusted to be a rotation pillar. If he’s great for the final 2 months, do the Mets forget that problem and fail to get the 3 good starting pitchers they need to be competitive.
  12. Mets are getting two prospects: -Bruin Agbayani (Benny’s son), Shortstop, Twins’ 6th round pick in 2025. 29th ranked prospect in Twins org per MLB.com -Billy Amick. 3rd Baseman, 2nd round pick in 2024. 21st ranked prospect in Twins org per MLB.com.
  13. There was a whole backstory, right? There were deemed to be sorority sisters of the bride, one was a childhood friend, and one was the groom’s sister? I can’t believe I remember this.
  14. 8 is Jason Phillips
  15. Nido was not good. Santos was really not good. Phillips played more first than catcher and wasn’t good. Trevino had an ok season in 1980 but was the primary catcher that year. Ed Hearn helped the Mets win a championship in the sense that it’s best practice to have a backup catcher but he wasn’t good and didn’t play at all in the postseason. There are plenty of memorable backup catchers (like Santos hitting that homer off Papelbon) but few actually good ones.
  16. Exactly. You’re always open to an over-pay deal. Torrens is pretty valuable: ranks 21st in MLB in WAR from catchers over the last 3 years. Good backup catchers are hard to find and should be kept around if possible. Good Mets backup catchers, all-time: -Dyer -Hodges -Sasser -Pratt -Castro -Torrens That’s it. That’s the entire list.
  17. The Mets of course got a free year back from Cano due to his second PED suspension, which seems significantly less likely to occur here. But you are correct that the Mets should plan as if they need a new full-time second baseman for next year.
  18. I don’t think you have that math quite right. The Mets’ liability to Nimmo was $101.25M for 5 years, but they paid $5M of Texas’ share and a $1M bonus to Nimmo for the inconvenience of being traded. Texas’ liability to Semien was $72M for 3 years. So, in the end, Texas took on an additional $24.25M. The Mets saved $23.25M. Of course the Mets lost the trade since Semien has been so bad. The offensive decline was obviously coming although maybe the degree of decline not so clear. Where the Mets lost out bigtime is the defense. In less than a season, Semien went from being the best in his league at his position to just bad. That is not a normal aging curve. Semien had a 98 OPS+ last year but 3.2 WAR. This year he’s at 73 OPS+ (obviously terrible) but now the defense is now suddenly very bad and it’s -0.6 WAR.. Obviously there’s still a lot of baseball to be played but for reference, 3.2 WAR would lead all Mets players this year by a comfortable margin.
  19. Funny enough, a different coaching staff did just that in 2025. I’d like to think the same could also occur for Mauricio.
  20. The coaching staff is a huge problem. Errors, botched rundowns, idiotic challenges…the results are awful for things that coaches should be able to fix.
  21. Ewing used a dumb challenge in the 3rd inning which is why there wasn’t a challenge available.
  22. Stearns didn’t make Soto hurt, Lindor bad, Bichette bad…etc. There’s only so much blame that can be put on him. I also reject the idea that the franchise is a joke and find the leaning-into-that trope is quite tiresome. I watched this game in its entirety. It was super frustrating because the Mets actually have the talent to beat the Dodgers and should have done so last night.
  23. What does this mean? Serious question. The GM/POBO of course “controls” the manager since the GM/POBO hires/fires the manager, but I don’t think that’s what you mean. Not do I think you mean that the GM/POBO “controls” the manager through roster management (since that’s the case for every team). There’s no evidence that Stearns or anyone else in the front office ever chose the lineup or made any in-game decisions for Mendoza. Is that what you mean by “control”?
  24. Not interference under MLB rules. And the batter did vacate the area near the plate and in fact did not “fail to avoid a fielder who is attempting to field a batted ball” (MLB rule 6.01(a)(10)). I do understand that little leagues, high school, etc. do have some different rules about backswing interference.
  25. In 2022, the first week of games had to be moved - some to the end of the season, some dispersed throughout.
