  1. I like aggressive baserunning. Can’t really complain, I guess. Maybe Travis can hit a homer here against the lefty.
  2. We need the Nats to bring that Kintzler guy in again.
  3. Mickey Callaway, managerial genius.
  4. Orange and blue-colored glasses? Maybe. 92 wins. Win division. Win NLDS over Cubs; defeat Dodgers in NLCS; defeat MFYs in World Series.
  5. The look-at-me thing is annoying. But one would think that would at least make sense to have him at the Marlins’ ballpark...

  7. Vargas was the starting pitcher in what turned out to be a big comeback win against the Cubs in May 2007.
  8. in a statement provided to The New York Times that the Indians organization “ultimately agreed with my position that the logo is no longer appropriate for on-field use in Major League Baseball. . . .” Not a good look to suggest it was ever appropriate. Still, progress is good. Changing the team name next would be ideal.
  9. Vic Sage wrote: Right now, it looks like this: Reyes# (2b) Nimmo* (cf) Cespedes (Lf) Bruce* (Rf) Cabrera# (3b) D'Arnaud (c) AGon* or Smith*(1b) Rosario (ss) Egad. That is not acceptable. I don’t think bringing Jose back is necessary or advisable.
  10. This is the fourth consecutive offseason in which the Mets have enough pitching to legitimately compete but have failed to upgrade offense. The last time the Mets signed a free agent to upgrade offense was Curtis. Note that the Cespedes signings were not upgrades. They were retaining an existing asset. The Mets haven’t ranked as one of the top 5 offenses in the National League since 2006-08 - not coincidentally the best 3 consecutive seasons the team has had this millennium. Now, they have dirt cheap starting pitching up the wazoo (yes, with obvious health caveats) and they are running the risk of a fourth consecutive offseason in which no offensive upgrades have been made. My take is that Alderson does the best he can but nothing gets better without new ownership.
  11. It certainly should. Fixed that.
  12. I think you understand what I meant. For the avoidance of doubt, surely we can agree that: 1. But for the issue of Bonds having taken PEDs, he would be a lock for the hall of fame; and 2. The lack of voting support for Bonds is because many voters think his career is tainted for having used PEDs.
  13. Bonds Clemens Guerrero L. Jones Martinez Mussina Schilling Sheffield Thome Walker Might have also voted for if not for 10 player limit: Hoffman, Sosa --- The PED nonsense is tiresome. Players who did not fail tests or were not subject to testing with penalties need to be considered. If you want to hold Manny Ramirez's two failed tests (after he had plenty of advance notice as to the ramifications, fine). Schilling is a vile person but his baseball career is hall of fame worthy. Compares favorably to, say, a Ty Cobb, who did all manner of bad things while playing; and Schilling, who started that crap after his playing days were over.
  14. There's also the issue that Halladay is not (like Gehrig or Clemente) a sure-thing, no doubt inductee
  15. Bernie Williams
  16. Jeff Bagwell should be one of the 1991 debuts.
  17. The Lions haven't won a playoff game since 1991. The Dodgers...not so much. Sorry you didn't win it all, but they clearly deserved to lose as they should have know better than to have Utley on your team. Stop whining.
  18. I'd rather use Rivera, Flores and/or Cecchini than bring back either Cabrera or Reyes.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Reynolds was on the 2015 NLCS roster, but not on the World Series roster because Uribe was activated Accurate.
  20. Former pitchers as managers seems like a rare occurrence. Currently, there's Bud Black; and Bryan Price with the Reds...and I think that's it. (John Farrell was a pitcher too).
  21. Final totals: 2012: 160 2013: 93 2014: 143 2015: 116 2016: 60 2017: 145 717 games total. --- Reyes WAR: 2012 2.9 2013 2.6 2014 3.2 2015 0.3 2016 0.4 2017: -0.6 I suppose from a health perspective (which was the original point of this thread), Jose did pretty well. Too bad he turned out to be a bad person whose career collapsed after being traded to Colorado.
  22. At least 8
  23. He also nearly assassinated David Wright.
  24. I don't think their cases are comparable. de Grom hits free agency at age 33. Syndergaard at age 29. That alone will make Syndergaard massively more expensive to resign. A 5 year deal to deGrom now buys out the arbitration years and one FA season? I'd say that is worth $50-$60M. Not that I'd recommend doing it.
