  1. Jeter's embarrassing fire sale continues!
  2. Centerfield wrote: If he's considered super utility, he can play OF too. Didn't he play a few innings last year? I wonder if this move is designed to make our actual 2B target (or trade partner) blink. "Look guys, we now have Reyes, and TJ Rivera coming back mid-season. We are totally fine without (target name)." if it is, more kudos to Sandy
  3. Tie breaker is margin of victory in earlier rounds?
  4. Tie breaker is margin of victory in earlier rounds?
  5. Assuming Reyes is back at near minimum salary, he is in the same boat as Gonzalez - cutable. This could also be a "de Aza signing" - a cheap insurance move by Sandy against not signing someone better, but then ultimately replacing him
  6. ...and then the Wilpons cut payroll because insurance didn't pay his salary this year.
  7. Carter should have been a Met!
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: "Until the end of time" is too big a commitment for me. I can only promise to root for him for another 3 billion years or so. And unless things have changed, Johan wouldn't have to pitch in a major league game to renew his eligibility. He could pitch an inning for Las Vegas, or any other minor league team and it would have the same effect. That just clinches it then! If you thought Tebow sold tickets you haven't seen anything yet. Welcome to "Santana Sundays" at MCU Park featuring 3 innings of Johan striking out 18 year olds!
  9. Vic Sage wrote: wonder woman got skunked! Politics. There is no other explanation for Gadot's lack of recognition.
  10. Even in a tight pennant race there will be a blowout game one way or the other he can come into!

  12. I would love to see the Mets give Johan a meaningless inning in September once rosters expand just to reset his hall of fame clock. who knows, maybe in 5 years the ballot clog clears and he can get considered again
  13. Mussina made a big jump - its pretty hard to keep him out with Morris in, but then you can say the same about another dozen guys. Morris really didnt belong.
  14. Vic Sage wrote: i don't think Hoffman or Edgar will make it. My feeling is that the more traditionalist voters will come in later (with the progressive voters having already put in their ballots so they could write about them and put forth their arguments), and they'll tend to overlook the value of relief pitchers and DHs, dragging down their percentage as we get down to the end. Just a hunch. Chipper, Vlad, and Thome this year, methinks. wouldn't it be the less traditional/more statistically oriented voters who put less value on relief pitchers and the bullshit Save stat?
  15. I feel like we have been over this a million times. Some journalists can be sloppy about sources. That percentage is, in my opinion, much higher amongst sports writers. When you are blowing the whistle on the polluting factory or the criminal activity of a politician, I will accept there may be some legitimate need for protection. When you are reporting that the Mets might be interested in signing a player, I consider it purely unsubstatiated rumor unless a source is named with a high likelihood of being totally false. Doesnt mean it wont sell advertising or make for interesting off-season conversation at the CPF. But the opinions of everyone here are likely just as valid as the "source" and are even generally more interesting.
  16. He is welcome to a minor league deal and a spring invite. Barring a bunch of injuries, he shouldn't see the big league roster at all.
  17. This year's group can hardly expect 50 million. All the top guys have serious concerns and none play a premium position
  18. He is there to sell tickets, which is fine. Gotta pay back Picard and every dollar counts!
  19. Do you work for the union? Why do you care how latw they sign or what they get? I am happy if more good players get priced down for Freddie Coupon
  20. teams getting smarter isn't collusion and i have a feeling there'll be no talk like this next year when the Yankees/Dodgers have "reset" their luxury taxes and handed 300 million contracts to machado and harper
  21. Tebow is invited!
  22. Cutting the time between innings could legitimately save 9 minutes per game. The replay thing? Yeah, there needs to be a timer there too. In fact I'd say the review should be asked for almost immediately or else it wasn't obvious enough to warrant replay.
  23. I guess if the union cant agree internally there isn't much to so but move forward without them. I like the idea of impriving pace of play. Lets start by cutting tv commercial breaks down, the players don't need that long to get back to the dugout. A pitch clock with nobody on base seems like a good starting point. The batter must have an equal obligation to get in the box and stay there.
  24. Or some asshat goinf to cover the yankees who wants to take a cheap shot at the Mets on the way out. This lessens the credibility to me.
  25. I like Kipnis, but I'd rather see us spend Fred's money and not trade a good asset. If its a salary dump, great.
