  1. Mets need to hand-deliver a jersey and get some photos of him on a baseball field ASAP so we can stop seeing hideous yankee pinstripes in the news articles.
  2. 41Forever wrote: Yeah! So does this mean Cabrera plays second and Wilmer and Reyes are subs? I would think Wilmer is 1B against lefties. Reyes to the bench.
  3. WHAM! I like the deal a lot. he'll be 32 this year which would worry me for a speed guy who plays middle infield, not a power/walks guy who plays a corner spot. 2 years at a pretty cheap rate per year. reasonable defender at 3B this is better than the Bruce deal even!
  4. Ashie62 wrote: Lance Lynn. A horse who eats innings. He is getting cheaper everyday. We don't know that, we only know that he remains unsigned. maybe his agent is telling hi to wait for Darvish to sign so the losers on Darvish will open up their wallets.
  5. Thanks for posting the whole thing and denying Verducci his clicks. Come on 41, you should know better!
  6. There is no mess, there is just something for agents who may have given bad advice to their clients to whine about. And something for writers to write about at a slow time of year. Assuming a guy is keeping himself in shape (and, that is their job) what does it take for a hitter to be "ready"? a week of spring training? maybe 2 weeks for the pitchers? so when we get to the point that more than a couple of good players are looking like they wont start the year on time, it'll be a "mess" - right now its a somewhat interesting talking point. As for changes to the next CBA, the union should push for a salary floor or punishment if a 'soft floor' isnt met and to eliminate rules that encourage tanking (and therefore encourage not signing players better than those you have now at prices you can afford).
  7. You can have a deal without signing papers and submitting them to the league yet - though I think the vhances of such a deal not leaking are pretty low
  8. If the Mets knew they had a roater spot coming on the 14th, why not hold off making the Reyes deal off until then? I doubt he was in such high demand that they couldn't make him wait.
  9. Hosmer's offer is supposedly from the Padres - they aren't contenders and I honestly thinks its a really bad idea for them. If I were them, I'd say the offer is on the table until Monday and then we're calling Duda/Morrison's agents about 1-2 year deals.
  10. As for the "Los Mets" thing - I didnt think there was a lot of racism going around against the latino stars, Mets fans fell in love with Pedro especially in a very short time period. Omar was the one taking the racist flak.
  11. the Wagner comment can be taken a lot of different ways, but racism on Wagner's part is probably the least likely intent. #1 - Those asshole players can talk to you too, they choose not to, but why don't you go try talking to them - i dont need to stand here and answer questions for all the assholes who cant stand in front of their lockers after they went 0-4 #2 - You asshole reporters should stop asking me all the questions just because I'm white. go talk to those guys, they speak English too, you know?
  12. agree with Vic. I'd like to see the next CBA change the rules in a bunch of ways. NFL strangely enough has minimum spending but also maximum. since MLB doesnt have a hard cap maybe it shouldn't have a hard floor, but an "anti-luxury tax" where if you dont spend enough you have to pay into a pool for X (union/league can decide what the pool goes for - how about medical expenses for anyone who doesnt have the years of service time towards lifetime insurance and suffers a career ending injury? i'm sure they could think of others that wouldnt be a tough swallow)
  13. once it affects the regular season i'd care. but to me, this one is on the players (and Jeter) - the teams have gotten wiser about where the value lies and the current CBA, which the players were happy with, has plenty of mechanisms to discourage spending with no collusion required (Encourages tanking, penalizes signing good but not great free agents with draft pick loss, and the luxury tax threshold that rests when you go under is a HUGE culprit. the Yankees might already have signed Moustakas and Walker if they werent trying to reset their tax for a year) The other big problem is letting Derek Jeter buy and gut a baseball team. the teams that traded for Stanton, Ozuna, Yelich, and Gordon could have been homes for Martinez, Walker, and others and the Marlins won't make corresponding signings. a fire sale like that one definitely depresses free agency. MLB players remember: BLAME JETER!
  14. 41Forever wrote: Especially since we already have two top-tier guys in our rotation, potentially three or four if Harvey is back and Matz can stay healthy. Harvey was one of the worst starters in the majors last year and was at or below replacement level in 2016 as well. any plan that thinks of Harvey as more than the 6th/7th option is a bad plan. I think Matz has the better shot to rebound and counting on him as your #4/5 isn't a terrible plan. Cobb or Lynn would help this team immensely.
  15. i dont care about spring training games or who shows up to them.
  16. I left Harvey out as he was so bad for so many innings, the others snuck in on account of everyone else sucking. I think what we need is a new way to incorporate each season into the overall rankings - finishing 15th in this one shouldnt count for shit.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Nymr83; you list only 29 players ^^^ I had a hard time getting the list past 15 really... i'll edit
  18. The logo and the name aren't on the same playing field at all. Indians is not Redskins. It would be like having your team be called the "Hebrews" vs "Kikes" Spiders would be awesome though, they should do that. Think of the logo possibilities! And the mascots! (There would be mutiple mascots representing different spiders, arachnophobic opposing fans beware!)
  19. The Cuddyer pick was a big loss. Fullmer would be in the majors now anyway (or the disabled list, given Mets luck) so his presence in the organization wouldnt help the rankings.
  20. They ARE going to be selling the chief, I saw this was necessary to maintain their intellectual property over it.
  21. Promotions were a big culprit. It also seems like there have been a lot of injuries, particularly pitchers.
  22. wow, so many guys getting points who deserve SHIT Jacob deGrom Michael Conforto Asdrubal Cabrera Jay Bruce Yoenis Cespedes Curtis Granderson Travis d'Arnaud Wilmer Flores Seth Lugo Addison Reed Jerry Blevins Jose Reyes Lucas Duda Neil Walker Brandon Nimmo T.J. Rivera Zack Wheeler Robert Gsellman Rafael Montero Kevin Plawecki Noah Syndergaard Chasen Bradford Rene Rivera Juan Lagares Norichika Aoki Paul Sewald Amed Rosario Hansel Robles Dominic Smith Phillip Evans
  23. Going to the matchups in a big spot is fine... Its the idea of multi inning relief outings for good pitchers, not just mop-up that I approve of
  24. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/22232353/new-york-mets-use-closer-committee-start-season Encouraging sign from Callaway, who says they'll use whoever makes sense with the matchups in the the inning. and more good news, if a guy is pithching well, let him pitch! Callaway also said that the Mets plan to have Familia throw multiple-inning relief outings in spring training in order to get him ready for extended outings in the regular season
  25. thats probably the lineup against righties. against lefties, i'd suspect Flores over Smith at 1B at least for now and maybe Lagares gets in there?
