  1. Options have a funny way of making roster decisions. Montero likely the long man just to avoid exposing him. Sorry Lugo/Gsellman

  3. I think Lugo was the one already slated for AAA of that group. If everyone is healthy, I hope it is Harvey not Wheeler losing the rotation spot out of the gate.
  4. the walks are a little ugly, particularly against righties, as is the K-rate against righties. strictly a lefty specialist. i'd pass.
  5. it really all depends on your scoring system. tackles arent the best indicator of skill, but if a guy starts at middle linebacker - particularly as the beefier of the two in a 3-4 system - he is going to accumulate lots of tackles.
  6. I'll say this nice thing about Vargas: the upside is lower, but I think he has a better chance than Matt Harvey, a guy who is currently supposedly in our rotation, to give a team 15-20 starts of 90-100 ERA+ (by which i mean better than replacement level but a little below average).
  7. What I like about Sickels is that he really does dive in to the comments section and answer questions, and without the arrogance you'll see if you ever go read Keith Law's chats/twitter account
  8. is this a guy who gets a decent contract? then no. if he gets league minimum and released assuming we exit spring training healthy, sure.
  9. Callaway wrote: "For me to designate somebody to pitch the ninth, and I don't know what hitters are coming up, seems kind of silly to me," This guy just keeps getting my hopes up.
  10. #8 - FREE ADMISSION You'll make your money on concessions, but fill those stands any way you can and make it look like the fans care. Fans of 29* teams converge, pleading the unsigned to join their favorite squad. *Marlins fans wont be there, despite the shortest drive they have already become too jaded to think thwir horrible new owner will sign anyone.
  11. Well they are definitely competing with each other for playing time if/when everyone is healthy. What I'm saying (and I think Vic too) is that Nimmo is going to win that competition if that competition is judged the way we think it should be. Lagares certainly belongs on the roster, could be the best 5th OF in the league!
  12. Vic, I agree with your arguments overall but not the use of OPS+ as evidence in #3. Ops+ is standardized so that 82 in an era of deadball is the same as 82 in an era of live ball. What changes is the relative value of defense. If you trust the metrics, Lagares isn't the great defender he ince was. I'd take Nimmo most of the time too. Maybe if the Mets have a pitcher who is particularly fly ball prone you pick that day to start Lagares
  13. The opening lines: Cool as marble, choosing bemusement over anger, Derek Jeter is playing defense from behind a desk. It’s a new position for the former Yankees shortstop. Not really. He ALWAYS played defense like he was sitting behind a desk. it never gets old!
  14. I think the real issue with the Mets projections is the playing time relative to performance and a lack of understanding of the organizational dynamics, particularly at 1B -Gonzalez isnt going to get 45% of 1B time (with Smith at 25%) if his offense is roughly equivalent to Smith's. Gonzalez will be off the team in favor of a younger, faster, and/or more position-flexible player if he isn't hitting well, or at least outperforming Smith. -Flores at only 10% of 1B time? if everyone performs on a per AB basis the way pecota suggest, Flores will likely start 25% of the time or "against every lefty"
  15. Edgy MD wrote: While a lot of this is educated guesswork, that doesn't seem to be unreasonable. Betting's not my business, but I'd guess it to be a smart play to bet on the healthiest starter out there to miss three starts. Yeah, every pitcher is subject to a missed start here and there with a blister or even a rainout after he throws an inch. On top of that, there is the chance of serious injury that causes them to miss the year. If that injury happens 1 in 10 times, a projection accounts for it by saying they will miss 10% of starts
  16. Centerfield wrote: Maybe the Wilpons should sell to someone who has some experience in real estate development. Someone capable of turning that area into gold. Good idea! I think I know just the guy, He has a history in building shit and should be about ready to move on from his current job, and if he builds it then it will be HUGE, the HUGEST, believe me!
  17. LW, thats nice for people who are taking the train, but nobody who drove to the game wants to park the car, leave the stadium by train, go somewhere, and come back by train before the game. Nor do they want to fight the mobs to the train when the game ends to do it then. If its not walkable it might as well be in Manhattan for most people.
  18. Vic Sage wrote: you know something, as long as we're rounding up the usual suspects, i wouldn't be upset by another go-round with Mr. Dickey! Prediction: he would outperform Harvey
  19. Jeter tries to explain himself to unhappy fans
  20. Yeah if Duda is really available for 1 year at 5-7 million id kick gonzo to the curb and sign duda. I dont think that is the case.
  21. Lefty Specialist wrote: This. A-Gon's pittance of a salary removes the financial consideration from the table, always a big factor when deciding personnel moves with this team. not just THIS team - there are a few franchises who will walk away from a guy they signed to a big deal, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find many examples of teams that walk away from from big money in the first year of the deal - any team that gives Duda 9 million dollars (or, say the Frazier contract) is playing him Year 1 with no question asked bout who is getting blocked.
  22. Edgy is Nimmo's biggest fan.
  23. The Post wins for photoshopping him out of the MFY jersey
  24. Wow!
  25. Relying on David Wright, who has played 75 games over the last three years, none last year, and hasn't had a really healthy season since 2012 would be really bad planning. Forget him. He isn't here. If he shows up later, you figure it out then. Frazier can play 1B. Maybe Wright can too. Flores can move to 2B with Cabrera to SS if Rosario isn't hitting, Smith can be sent down. the Mets infield isn't full of veterans without options or position flexibility. the Mets have many different viable combinations around the diamond depending on who is performing.
