    If this was a strategy, he should have put Carrasco on the IL a heck of a lot sooner! Carrasco's salary was fully guaranteed and he probably would have been a lot better off at home anyway - these "phantom DL" moves generally involve pre free agency players with options remaining who are incentived to agree as the alternative is to be sent down and not make the MLB minimum

    Want: don't care who the GM is really, whoever Stearns likes is fine. A miracle re-hiring of Buck and blaming it all on Eppler would be great. Or Bobby V asks for the job and a starry eyed Stearns can't say no to his boyhood idol. Get: some GM guy who worked for Stearns before. Craig Counsell. Hate: the former braves GM who cheated, Don Mattingly (just because the Yankee stench I don't want)

    I would more strongly consider a trade today than I would have yesterday. Boras brings the vast majority of his big names to free agency. If the right offer came along, I would tell Pete we love you and we will be in on the bidding in a year, but given Boras' track record we need to take a goo deal if it raises.

    I loved Buck and think this was a dumb move. but I do agree that a new president or whatever Stearns title is should be allowed to pick his own guys. I hope Cohen gave him the option to can Eppler too.

    Terrible check swing call against Harper by 3rd base ump tonight who then ejects Harper while arguing from at least 60 feet away, nowhere near getting in his face or anything. I don't need to tell you who the ump was, because it'll be your first guess. It is a joke that he is still employed.

    "There is someone arguably worse than him in the hall" is a really poor argument. there are at least 20 retired hitters more deserving than Tony Perez. maybe even 50. should we let them all in?

    I don't think Gooden's Mets career, just by the numbers, is worthy of of jersey retirement . Nothing to do with Cocaine.

    This is absolutely terrible news for Ohtani but also for the sport as a whole. He was having a historic year that we may truly never see again.

    Hernandez has to get credit for his time in the booth, I'm fine with that number retirement. Strawberry spent 8 years as a Met as one of the best players in MLB. At the end of the day, though, David Wright had a better Mets career. The only reason to say "Strawberry before Wright", in my mind, is that Wright is still a VERY recent retirement - they could retire him in 10 years and still have all the fans who grew up with him show up. Gooden, on the other hand, had a good rookie years and a season for the ages in 1985. Then he was pretty average for 9 years. i'm not sure he should be retired, even with lower standards. There seems to be some support for other unretired Mets from the 60's and 80's like Cleon Jones, Ed Kranepool, Mookie Wilson, etc - but to me none of these guys should be next on any list. David Wright should be. But after that, for me, its EDGARDO ALFONZO!
