You make a point about how the prior roster construction was hurting the team. The current roster construction probably hurts less. Lindor isn't coming out of games, so a backup SS is really just injury insurance. The roster with Vientos instead of Wendle is better on days where you don't need a backup SS for the reasons you already stated - so maybe just worry about it if Lindor gets hurt? That seems to be the Mets idea here and I'm fine with it.

Maybe it would just be a blessing in disguise for the pitcher. I couldn't name every pitcher who has thrown a no-hitter, or even a perfect game, but I remember Armando Galaragga for NOT throwing one. Likewise, I couldn't name every Mets post-season homerun, but I'll always remember Robin Ventura's "Single" that left the ballpark - a pitcher finding himself in your hypothetical situation below would be remembered forever! But, more likely, he'd just get pulled by his manager after 9 innings because of a pitch count.

I don't think we need ejections absent intent, but 2nd base for HBO to the head seems fair. Nobody is ever going to let them self get hit in the head for two bases, unlike the folks who don't get out of the way when it hits the arm. It's hard to define, but a ball that grazes the (loosely fitting) uniform only should be a ball, not a free base.

This really not a big deal. The Mets lost their #6 starter who is pretty equivalent to numbers 7, 8, and 9 - mediocre pitching depth is a strength here! The bigger news today was Manaea - if he can pitch anything like that this year, the Mets are less reliant on Severino to pretend it is 2017 again and would be fine with a more modest repetition of 2022 (or just his career averages)
