  1. This looked like a fun exercise. The Athletic is running a series of articles on a mock expansion to 32 teams with team name votes, the writers for each of the 30 teams protecting players, and then later this week the actual mock draft. The rules for protection are as follows: -Anyone who has ever appeared in the majors needs to be protected. -Anyone who has not appeared in the majors does not need to be protected. -Each team can protect 15 -Each expansion team can draft one player per team (so the Mets could lose 2 max.) -The draft takes place in the theoretical offseason, so 2021 Free Agents need not be protected Who would you protect if you were the Mets? Mets writer Tim Britton says: Protected players: 1B Pete Alonso, SP Jacob deGrom, INF Jeff McNeil, OF Dominic Smith, OF Brandon Nimmo, RP Edwin Díaz, SP Carlos Carrasco, RP Seth Lugo, 3B J.D. Davis, RP Trevor May, SP Taijuan Walker, OF Khalil Lee, SP David Peterson, SP Tylor Megill, SS Francisco Lindor Top five unprotected: C James McCann, C Tomás Nido, 3B Luis Guillorme, RP Miguel Castro, RP Drew Smith Personally, I would protect Nido instead of Lee - or maybe I would take a big risk and protect Nido instead of Lindor - Is an expansion team really going to want Lindor's contract? I don't think you can reasonably leave both catchers unprotected as Tim does.
  2. When is kickoff? what's that you say? Lawson done for the year? Curry too? even things that Rhyme with "Mets" are cursed. Bring on the Knicks!
  3. I don't think anyone was disputing that Nimmo - he of the .400 OBP - should play every day. I'd go so far as to say "lock him up" long term - he is a better player when healthy than any other hitter on the roster wit the possible exceptions of Alonso and Lindor. The knock with him is the ability to stay on the field. As for Conforto, he has been barely better than Smith though at least he is an average defender. This team is still way too left-handed and it shows when trying to figure out if a platoon could get anyone going.
  4. =Ceetar post_id=75363 time=1629844614 user_id=102] I mean, we'll probably find out. It's hard to argue for any other config than J.D. Davis, Lindor, Baez, Alonso.
  5. Well, if they were down on crow armstrong already it makes a little more sense. We don't know who the players in the bryant deal were. Was it mauricio? Vientos? The cubs traded Rizzo away - what if the deal was Baez and Bryant rentals for Dom Smith? I think I would have done that for a team 5 games up with a healthy degrom. Not with the team you have.
  6. =G-Fafif post_id=75064 time=1629486319 user_id=55] From your Mets PR dept.: RHP Jacob deGrom has been transferred to the 60-Day Injured List. DeGrom is eligible to return from the IL on September 13 and his status and timeline remain unchanged.
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Head up his ass More on McNeil from Tim Britton in The Athletic today: [bLOCKQUOTE]For McNeil individually, the pressure is about to amplify. Four hours before Thursday's game, Francisco Lindor and Javy Báez worked the middle infield together, preparing for returns that could come early next homestand. Rojas made clear that Báez would play second beside Lindor at short. That leaves third base and the corner outfield for McNeil — spots now occupied by J.D. Davis, Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith. The Mets need to ride the hot hands, and McNeil isn't one of them right now. https://theathletic.com/2780903/2021/08/20/jeff-mcneils-struggles-are-a-proxy-for-the-mets-larger-approach-issues/?source=emp_shared_articlehttps://theathletic.com/2780903/2021/08/20/jeff-mcneils-struggles-are-a-proxy-for-the-mets-larger-approach-issues/?source=emp_shared_article[/bLOCKQUOTE] McNeil is a better overall player than Davis and a better defender at 3B. McNeil should be able to play if he breaks out of the slump.
  8. [Trevor Bauer] was in court all day, testifying in his sexual harassment case. According to WCBS Radio, he won the case, and the Judge did not grant a restraining order against him. Not surprised at all. I thought the accuser was full of shit from the first reports. It was even worse than wHat was first reported. She may have doctored up photos to make her quote injuries appear worse. This game sucks. The woman apparently texted Bauer "gimme all the pain" after their first encounter and before their [voluntary] second one. He is a sicko. so is she. She either had regrets or saw an opportunity to settle for $$$ with a rich dude. he should have known better given his celebrity.

I would differentiate between saying "this is the approach we teach and look for and sign big contracts" versus saying that that is the ONLY valid approach and if a 3-month rental player who has a different approach is the best player you can get, that is fine too. I'm not sure that's a hair that's fair to ask players to split. I'm not sure that's a hair that's fair to ask me to split. If the approach is so valuable, yet you're kicking aside players who adhere to it in favor of players who don't, it's a lot to ask players to ignore the inherent message there. Who was kicked aside? Baez was primarily acquired to replace an injured star player - nobody lost the role they had before the Lindor injury. If Lindor comes back healthy and further injuries havent opened a new hole up, you'd expect the Mets to play the best player at each spot - which if the Mets value patience so highly may not be Baez

  11. No matter how bad the Mets are, he can enjoy his new Florida house: https://therealdeal.com/miami/2021/08/12/billionaire-mets-owner-steven-cohen-buys-south-florida-mansion-for-nearly-22m/https://therealdeal.com/miami/2021/08/12/billionaire-mets-owner-steven-cohen-buys-south-florida-mansion-for-nearly-22m/ (It's 75 minutes from Port St. Lucie but I doubt that he's getting in a Civic and navigating 95 traffic.) Nice house. what caught my attention was "a 250,000-gallon saltwater pool" - why would you want a saltwater pool? is there some sort of pumping system to fill it from the likely polluted canal behind the house?
  12. I remember him as a left handed hittet who crushes righties? So, the opposite of what is needed? I guess depth is depth though especially if he is at AAA
  13. Winners again! Only a half game back!
  14. Walker allowed 9 runners in 4 innings and is over 70 pitches. I would have pinch hit there.
  15. https://popculturehasaids.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/jeter-306-1406130724.jpg?w=584> "Did someone say intangbles?"
  16. yeah if McNeil is involved this is a fleecing by the Cubs. i would have preferred Bryant by a long shot to Baez.
  17. McNeil doesnt move to 3rd and displace Davis against righties? i cant imagine they gave up mcneil and Crow-Armstrong for a rental, right??
  18. Trevor Williams is a batting practice machine
  19. Sources? who is Mark?
  20. Atlanta gets Eddie Rosario and Adam Duvall in separate deals. Alderson...fell asleep?
  21. The Mets are going to disappoint us all arent they?
  22. Or Taijuan Walker. Walker and Stroman were two of the biggest downticks after MLB started enforcing the "sticky shit rules". Stroman may have been a blip on the radar but Walker's downturn is looking real. His last 4 starts include 15 innings, 11 walks, and 8 Ks. even if you remove that .1 inning disaster its 3 starts, 14.2 innings, 7 walks, 8 ks. ouch.
  23. Rizzo and Gallo to the Yankees? someone check George Steinbrenner's pulse, is he still alive?
  24. So are they going to give him the RA Dickey treatment and reneg on the bonus they promised him?
  25. One thing, ten years old at this point, that I do love about Harper was when some shmuck reporter asked a then underage Harper what his favorite beer was and he said "that's a clown question bro"
