  1. =bmfc1 post_id=54672 time=1611459207 user_id=73] smg58 makes a salient point: if Bauer then why not Realmuto or Springer? ... unless Bauer's price has gone way down and now he's too good to pass up, any problems notwithstanding.
  2. Lefty Specialist wrote: After firing Porter for harassment, bringing Bauer on might be problematic if they truly have a 'zero-tolerance' policy. Tolerance towards sexual harassment of women and tolerance towards being a jerk on Twitter arent the same
  3. Ken Rosenthal with a new article on The Athletic today suggesting the Mets are hot for Bauer again with the Springer sweepstakes over. Lets get it done!
  4. That is probably exactly how he really sees it too. Of course he isnt going to say so, he would rather tell agents "oh man we really love your guy but you gotta understand every dollar we give you is really $1.25 to us..."
  5. I still think the luxury tax is a fake line. A negotiating tactic sort of line.
  6. Bonds has to be there. Oh is a good guess bit he hasnt gone international yet - would the second greatest japanese player have been somewhere on his list if Oh is eligible?

  9. The Wilpon era ending doesnt mean we will get EVERY player the fanbase wants. If the Mets added another mid-rotation starter or even #4 innings eater (odorizzi?), some outfield help or depth, and locked up Lindor OR Conforto before Spring Training for the longterm I would call the offseason a successful enough one. If on top of that they added Bauer or upgraded 3B in meaningful way plus Brad Hand, the offseason could still be a homerun
  10. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Disturbing that this was something of a known secret that the Mets couldn't manage to get wind of. It's not an excuse, but consider that Porter was also hired by another MLB organization after leaving the Cubs (his employer at the time of the conduct) but before the Mets. If we assume Porter was not honest when asked a “skeletons in the closet” question, and we know the person who was harassed was trying to keep it quiet to protect her career (as evidenced by the ESPN article), I'm not sure this could be described as “known secret.” It's embarrassing but I don't think the Mets are unique in occasionally hiring someone with previously hidden bad conduct. agreed completely, you can't go "LOLMets" when the Diamondbacks couldn't find this either - maybe it was just a well-kept secret - the people who knew werent talking!

He could have let Sandy fire him or gone about firing him in many other ways, but tweeting "zero tolerance" was bold, especially given that there were allegations of harassment at Cohen's main business - he must feel pretty damn confident that whatever those circumstances were and whatever the accuser(s) can say about the 'environment' he created, that nothing can actually be pinned on him personally, right?
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: A few thoughts: 1. Yeah, you gotta get rid of him. The good news is that one of the runners up for the position, Zach Scott, is already in the organization and promoting him seems the easy and logical choice. 2. If "it was somebody else's penis" is supposed to make this less bad, it doesn't. 3. Even if he had stopped just short of the dick pic, he still behaved abominably. 62 consecutive texts (and many of them pretty pathetic) without a response? That's also harassment, and probably worth being fired over. 4. Beyond that, is he unable to take a hint? Does he have any pride? If I was trying to "woo" a woman through texts, if I went a few days and a few texts without a response, I'd probably send a message saying, "Hey, it seems like you're not interested. If I'm wrong, and you've just been busy, let me know. Otherwise, I won't bother you anymore. Thanks." But 62 texts over a period of weeks or months? Had the planet run out of women or something? 5. Thanks for you part in getting us Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco and, most importantly, Joey Lucchesi. Now don't let the door hit you in someone else's ass as you leave. Sheesh. I agree he had to go and I'm glad Cohen sent that tweet before 8 AM. This would have been a 3-day scandal with the Wilpons. The penis picture and also the 'bulge in the pants' picture were immediate grounds for getting fired. to your #2 above, i havent read all the texts but unless they were sexually explicit you dont deserve to be fired for being a desperate loser (in your love life) - As long as the texts WERE not individually inappropriate and she didnt tell him to stop.
  13. =smg58 post_id=54231 time=1611017371 user_id=62] Lucchesi makes Matz redundant, which make you wonder why he was tendered a contract in the first place. I suppose it's possible that they see one of them as being long relief/extra left arm, but they have a full pen of righties under contract and don't have a first lefty yet.
  14. =ashie62 post_id=53972 time=1610667031 user_id=90] They got Lindor and Carrasco. I believe that's all she wrote.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: I'd still prefer no DH at all, but This DH is certainly better than the total DH as has existed in the AL for going on 50 years now. It probably needs to come with an more permanently expanded roster (likely to happen anyway) seeing as how it would increase the number of 'half-game' position players since, the way I understand it anyway, you don't have to lose the guy in the DH slot but rather you'd lose him OR he can be inserted into the field which of course results in losing the guy he replaces so there'd be that element of strategy as well. What this mostly sounds like is a shot across the bow at those who employ 'The Opener' as a pitching strategy. On a maybe related note, Theo Epstein is taking a job within MLB with at least part of his duties being to look at and revamp rules, particularly with regard to pace of play and 'action' issues. I don't hate this.
  16. if this were a gauranteed MLB deal wasting a 25 (26?)-man spot it would seem like a blah move - but as a split contract I like the depth it provides at the back end of the 40 man roster

  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think I had been assuming that Nimmo would go to Cleveland in a Lindor deal, and that would leave us with an outfield of Conforto, Springer, and Smith if no DH. There can be a four-man outfield of the above three and Nimmo, of course. Three of the four hit lefty, though. Maybe Nimmo gets traded for a right-handed outfielder? Why are we trading Nimmo?? the guy has a friggin .400 OBP! I would trade Smith first and its not even particularly close in my mind. Also, extend Conforto NOW!
  19. Edgy MD wrote: 4) Posting fees are bullshit. I don't disagree, but they are here, they exist, so I'm discussing my opinion on the effect they had on Sugano particularly.
  20. The consensus seems to be that the Mets need George Springer. Springer would be a great addition, but without a DH the Mets would have to bench a strong bat to get him in the lineup. 2018-2020 - Alonso .252/.350/.559 Smith .278/.336/.527 Conforto .261/.365/.478 Nimmo .257/.397/.465 Springer .278/.363/.507 Maybe the Mets have a bigger need elsewhere? With Rosario/Gimenez both gone and Cano stupid, the infield depth could use work. In particular, JD Davis is considered one of the worst defenders in baseball at 3B (worse than Nimmo is in CF!) and his 2018-2020 numbers aren't that impressive (.272/.352/.445) for a defensive liability. Maybe instead of Springer, the Mets should be looking at being re-united with a former Met who has hit .300/.387/.513 over the last 3 years? JUSTIN TURNER could come cheaper than Springer and actually be a better fit for this team!
  21. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=53340 time=1609957863 user_id=68] #15 is a tie between Andruw Jones and Jim Edmonds.
  22. Lost in the collapse of our democracy is the fact that Sugano appears not to have signed anywhere. I guess he goes back to Japan and tries next year hoping for a better market. I think the "Posting Fees" were a real triple-whammy here that prevented a deal. In the midst of a pandemic where nobody wants to spend quickly especially before they have more info on things like season length, the Posting Fees 1) put an artificial deadline on the signing, 2) represented an up-front cost that needed to be paid out in year 1, and 3) probably prevented a short-term deal that would allow Sugano to pitch now and explore his market again soon - because while many teams might have been willingg to give him 1 year and a player option, they weren't going to pay the Posting Fees for that.
  23. A Boy Named Seo wrote: =LWFS post_id=53446 time=1610042159 user_id=84] AND we keep Dom Smith! Nimmo, too! AND we're still likely in on Springer and Hand and more pitching help... MY COUNTRY IS BROKEN BUT MY BASEBALL TEAM IS A BURGEONING DEATH STAR Yes, it feels weird to celebrate a crooked billionaire's re-shaping of my favorite baseball team BUT I NEED SOMETHING RIGHT NOW DAMMIT Hey, don't forget gender discrimination but who's keeping track!
  24. I'm assuming Colon counts as an active player or at least not eligible yet? He would certainly belong in the Hall of Fun
  25. Sheffield is already there. None of the other guys you are naming are, in my mind, even worth much HOF discussion much less deserve to be in. I didnt even know Candelaria was a Met
