  1. That might be the worst mascot ever. How do you not have a friendly snake?
  2. =smg58 post_id=81858 time=1638034381 user_id=62] My assessment so far: I wouldn't have pursued Canha if I was closing in on Marte, because I think Smith has more upside at a lower price. But that being said I like that Eppler got to work quickly and decisively. A lot. I also like that he made multiple moves for useful pieces instead of going for one big, overpriced splash. Any notion that people may have had yesterday that nobody wants to come here, or that the Mets were in no position to pull the trigger on anything, is gone. I also think that everybody is working on the assumption that this time next week there will be a work stoppage. The free agent market is already in full gear a lot more quickly than it normally does, and I expect that to accelerate this week.
  3. David Ortiz Alex Rodriguez Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Curt Schilling Sammy Sosa Todd Helton Jeff Kent Manny Ramirez Scott Rolen Omar Vizquel
  4. He has all 3 option years still which is a valuable thing in roster construction. The only thing this really cost the Mets was a 40 man roster spot.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: I would conclude that the Mets do have a functioning communications team. It's just that Stevie don't care. Jesus Christmas, this guy isn't going to be the new Steinbrenner, is he? Until we trade away top prospects for aging has been (see: Cano Trade) at his urging, he is no Steinbrenner. He is loud a4md obnoxious but as lomg as he spends his money and lets the baseball guys make the moves thats fine. He can be Mark Cuban.
  6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=81190 time=1637100375 user_id=68] =nymr83 post_id=81188 time=1637098736 user_id=54] I love THOR, but objectively he has spent the past two years rehabbing and we don't know what he'll be. I'll take the draft pick and then hope Steve Cohen's money can two of Stroman and Scherzer/Gray/Rodon/Gausman to come here. The Mets were always going to be the worst match for Syndergaard if he didn't take the QO because the moment he rejected it the Mets would have to be thinking that THEY were the ones giving up a second rounder if they signed him.

  8. ARSON! We've decided the next guy is gonna do ARSON! geeze, it's like you don't even listen to the pod. ;-) A friend of mine texted earlier "What are this guy's qualifications to work for the Mets? What Felonies does he have on his rap sheet?"
  9. I am sick at the idea that we are facing a world series between the fucking Braves and the fucking trash can bangers.
  10. The Mets have clearly struck out with the Beanes and Epsteins - Sabean represents a strong winning record in the GM job, not much more you can ask for.
  11. Yeah, there are two caveats - 1) Some guys weren't eligible for qualifying offers - looking at you, Kris Bryant! 2) the new CBA could change all of this
  12. The Mets do have at least one big incentive to bring back Baez, Stroman, and Conforto - If the Mets sign someone else's free agent who received a qualifying offer, they lose their second pick in the draft. Not their second round pick, but their second first round pick (they have the compensation pick for the Rocker fiasco)
  13. Well, scratch the Post from my reading list.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Gary Sanchez for late inning defense. I'll take substitutes you'd never think of for $600 Alex At what position? DH?
  15. Trevor Hoffman was popular I think? and John Franco - as much for baseball as for being a local who was prominently involved with local charities and the FDNY
  16. Nice of him. Does anyone really ever like relievers? they're like Field Goal Kickers - they only have to miss one for the fanbase to turn on them.
  17. Gone. With his contract expiring they don't even need to have the big "firing" for the backpages of the tabloids. Just hire the new GM and let him pick his manager.
  18. =bmfc1 post_id=79194 time=1633346285 user_id=73] They can sign Freddie Freeman as a FA and move Pete to 3B.
  19. Mets deciding to go out with a whimper
  20. Why not just have the computer make the call?
  21. =kcmets post_id=75366 time=1629847544 user_id=53] Sending me angry PM's doesn't help matters. If you find me joking about a goy neighbor setting a DVR offensive you have issues that have nothing to do with me. Did you PM Frayed too, or just single me out? Get a grip.
  22. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=77841 time=1631719685 user_id=68] =Ceetar post_id=77824 time=1631711163 user_id=102] it's probably pretty rare for a hitter that established go from solidly above average to below replacement level in two years.
  23. It is not "cheating" because there is no technology involved and, presumably, only uniformed personnel involved (no club employee in centerfield bleachers with binoculars waving). It will get you a fastball in the ribs, though. Can Lindor and Baez give "thumb down" to Yankees fans? that would be fun.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Getting deep into the bullpen in the first game of the series is the way to play winning baseball. I feel this is true. it seems true. has anyone ever crunched the numbers? (expected runs in the 2nd and 3rd games of a series based on bullpen innings in game 1) that would be an article i'd like to read.
  25. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=76439 time=1630692664 user_id=68] I went to that game. Not with the CPF crowd as that was years before I joined this furshlugginer forum and regrettably, got addicted. I have many memories of that game -- the strongest being those tiny American flags on a toothpick like piece of small wood about three inches long handed out before the game to entering fans. As soon as I got mine, I wanted to throw it out in the garbage, which I eventually did, but not without careful planning and looking around for the coast to be clear because the rah-rah patriotism crap at that game was higher than I'd ever seen before (or after) and I was certain that if one of those knuckleheads saw me throwing out my flag, some controversy would ensue.
