  1. maybe they felt that willie should tell pelfrey what was going on before omar told the world? maybe willie and omar got together and made the final decision AFTER the game? nah, that makes too much sense.
  2. i'm gonna plug the stats into a program tommorow to get a "prediction" for the year, i'm just curious though, if you could each name one team OTHER than yourself that you think came away strongest from the draft, who would it be? i'll pick the P-funk Allstars.
  3. the "green death watch" should start right away. not that the fans shouldnt support him until he actually does fail, but when the team has a player who is a huge upgrade defensively and looks to be one offensively ready to go theres no need to let a green slide last too long. its hard to speak definitively about how long he gets and how much he must suck, and milledge's numbers at AAA probably factor in as well. i think what the mets should do is decide internally what they expect, at a minimum, to get out of milledge if they play him every day (.265/.315/.425?), factor in the defense (maybe 20 pts of ops to be conservative?) and then give milledge the job if green isn't producing those numbers or better. how many ABs do you give it? well i think it depends how far below expectations he is. if he's hitting .200 after 50 ABs it might not be time to can him yet, if he's doing it after 150 ABs say hello to milledge. of course if he's hitting .100 in 50 ABs its milledge time! i'd hope the Mets have a plan something like that, and i wouldnt expect them to publicize it.
  4. ]My point is that you learn much more about the Mets' thinking from reading this website, or reading the newspapers, than you ever would from Omar's or Willie's interviews. no, you learn more about what the media thinks their thinking is (or what they want it to be.) ]Now, let me get this straight: before you heard Omar saying so, you assumed that the Mets didn't care about statistic-based reasoning? plenty of organizations didn't care, they say "ooo he's fast lets lead him off" or "ooo he's slow, must be a 5/6 hitter" they'll take a guy like Wright and stereotype him as a 5 hitter, and then they'll bat some total clown 2nd, ignoring the fact that they could be giving the BETTER hitter more ABs. but you're an idiot Ira, so i don't know why i even bother to continue responding to you
  5. ]You guys realize that Omar just takes five minutes to say what he could say in five seconds? Did you learn a damned thing, nymr, that you didn't know already from Omar's entire interview?i learned that in looking into wright batting 2nd the Mets care about the statistical reasons for doing so, including getting the better hitter more plate appearences (a rather obvious thing that was roundly ignored by baseball people until the last few years) they care about getting wright to hit the other way with the 1st baseman holding at first, omar recognizes that loduca's inflated obp was due not to good eye but an inflated ba, they recognize that something may need to change when alou doesnt play. so yeah i did learn. but i guess since omar didn't say "ok kids (and ira) here's our starting lineup" you didnt learn anything. edit- oh yeah, and i learned that willie seems to have the final say in batting order, even though they all talk about it.
  6. i thought Omar was brilliant, i'd rather hear about the organization's thought process without a decision than hear "we havent made a decision yet."
  7. I AM NOW IN THE DRAFT ROOM, IT IS STARTING 630
  8. i'm now having the same issue as metsmarathon. keep alert guys, i dont know when this will actualy start, i hate yahoo. please check in at 6:30 and assume it starts 7:30 if you don't see anything at 630.
  9. i just cliced it and it says "your league is drafting 51 minutes from now"
  10. so then you're saying Reyes is a slacker like Henderson? someone who goes into a homerun trot on a ball that ain't over the wall?
  11. Cobb?? you want to put COBB'S demeanor with Robinson's instead of with Rickey's??
  12. iramets wrote: Question: When Milledge catches a fly ball, does he always do what he did on his first play today (to end the second, I think)--he looked like was waving off the CFer, Johnson--but Johnson couldn't have been anywhere near the play (it was on the RF line). Does Milledge do the "I got it" gesture even when there's no else's it could possibly be?i don't know, but if he does i'd prefer that to the "i don't care about waving people off" attitude that some players have.
  13. generic terrorists maybe, but even those movies are pretty far between and alot of them seem to cast said terrorists in a not very negative light
  14. as a potential long-man?
  15. thats part of what made 300 a good movie, it seems that hollywood only wants to make fun of redneck christian americans these days, as if their political correctness prevents them from casting the non-christians, or the foreigners as the bad guys anymore... 300 departs from that and its a welcome departure.

    300

it was a good movie, not a great one. i voted "7" because i think its a 7 on a scale of 1-10, but i don't agree with the comments next to the numbers from whoever made the poll. comparing this to other comicbook movies is completely unfair, this just isnt that kind of movie.
  17. fortunately his rotation spot should be secure. i hope they dealt park.

  19. i wouldnt be quick to bat Chavez 2nd
  20. ]Tony LaRussa was arrested on suspicion of DUIwe have a whole thread about the DUI. as for Furcal, they can move betemit to short and start top prospect Andy (brother of the Pirates' Adam) LaRoche at 3B, something they were considerig anyway until his errror-laden spring.
  21. you're not missing anything. but there are good songs on that list. i love the a-team, but thats not a good walkup.
  22. Kid Carsey wrote: I enjoyed listening to Scully the last three years when I could get games. MLB has probably robbed me of that baseball treasure this year unless I want to watch on a 17' computer screen.Vin Scully might be worth investing in a bigger monitor.
  23. Our old friend Paul Wilson was released by the Reds today.
  24. its up to $6,666 right now (one wonders if the idiots reading these news stories know that ebay takes fraudulent bidding seriously.)
  25. ]Okay, now that I have gotten being an idiot out of my system, you should get good PoTG's from me for the season.Pelfrey 5 Maine 5 as long as we're getting stuff out of our systems before the season starts we might as well have thee "late voter" too.
