  1. ]The Cards are doing the starting-the-closer thing.makes sense when you consider that the starting position players are usually long gone by the end of a spring game, when else can you get your closer to see the good hitters in the spring?
  2. Bannister has shown that he's capable of a disturbing 22 BB and only 19K in 38 IP at age 26. Burgos has shown that at age 22 he can strike out a batter per inning over 70+ innings. i'd rather take my chances with burgos going forward. #5 starters are everywhere, the next armando benitez isn't.

Because I have no argument against that logic. And Edgy, Bannister has already shown he is capable of getting MLB hitters out--Burgos has not. That's a key difference in comparing springs. you have a habit of putting absurd words in other people's mouths to try and make your "point" look right. i don't see the word "never" anywhere in my post, but then you're too stupid to read.
  4. ]Sele apparently started by giving up 7 straight singles ... and then finished his outing by retiring 14 of the last 15 or something like that ... but it may be a case of TLTL for him. without seeing the game i cant say, but when all a guy gives up is singles its often a case of bad luck rather than bad pitching.
  5. I'd expect Burgos to contribute later this year, but even if he doesn't I'm stil fine with the trade.
  6. down 9-0 to the worst offense in either league!
  7. Reyes' 2nd error of the game makes it 8-0... Can we ban these green hats?
  8. i have a guy as well, but i want to open it up to other people first so that i'm not being mr big mean commissioner handing out the empty spots to his friends. that would put us at 14, which i'm ok with (though i loved 17 last year)

    Zephyrs

and if beltran gets the day off it'll be better than the OF in flushing that day.
  10. ] and try to avoid misspellings. (With Mientkiewicz gone, it should be less of a problem than a couple of years ago.) how easily you forget Scott Schoeneweis!
  11. i hate that guy. he's practically exhibit A for the "some guys cant handle NY" crowd.
  12. go pelfrey go.
  13. they're also far less likely to be able to get our of the way or put their glove up in time on a batted ball. theres also a certain responsibility aspect to it... a 17 year old chooses to play baseball and accepts the risks, a 10 year old is (often) told by mommy and daddy that its time to go play.
  14. the major manufacturers, or at least some of them do make them and i'm sure they'd make more of them if the demand grew, i don't know how long lasting they are as compared to metal. aluminum bat costs are all over the board with modell's website listing adult bats from $40 to $300. none of this is my point though. my point is if aluminum is dangerous, as the spomsors of this legislation claim, then why arent they protecting little leaguers BEFORE high school kids?
  15. ]The New York City bill would require that only wood bats be used in competitive high school baseball games, effective Sept. 1. An earlier version of the bill, introduced in 2001, would have covered Little League and independent leagues as well, but Mr. Oddo narrowed the proposal to gain broader support within the Council. in other words, the younger kids who may need protecting arent being protected while hte 15-18 year olds, who imo are old enough that if they are worried about metal bats hitting hte ball to them too hard shouldnt be playing can now no longer use them. good job idiot council! edit- as far as grafite goes i'm told they are pretty cost prohibitive, $200 each or something like that.
  16. 4 AM is a great time to release people, they're too tired and shocked to yell.
  17. didn't have me for a second, but only because i know humber is held in way too a high a regard by the organization in general and perez by minaya specifically. had you used Adkins, Vargas, and Sele i'd have been fooled.
  18. metirish wrote: Green hit a homer today,it's been a good week for him.i wasnt knocking him when he was stinking the joint up and i wont praise him now. i put little stock in ST stats in general and even less stock in the ST stats of guys who know (or think) they arent competing now for playing time in the regular season. i'll judge green based on a sufficient regular season sample size and not before.
  19. i'm not sure theres evidence to back it up, certainly he gets to two strikes alot, because he sees alot of pitches and thus alot of 2-2 and 3-2 counts which arent really a bad thing, by getting there quickly i'd assume you mean 0-2 and 1-2, i can't really speak as to how many of his ABs result in those counts as compared to hitters in general or loduca in particular. i wouldn't expect it to hurt reyes though, because loduca saw very few pitches at all last last year and wright obviously saw enough pitches to strike out and walk 179 times.
  20. so then i take it Oliver Perez (mr inconsistency) will be next out the door? no? then come up with a better excuse.
  21. i think the reasons to go with Wright far outweigh the reasons to go with LoDuca... getting better production, getting the better hitter more plate appearences, giving Reyes (when on base) more pitches to run on, getting Wright (who already has more power than Loduca) some juicy fastballs because they are afraid to throw in the dirt or inside with Reyes trying to steal. the only negatives i can see are the strikeout argument that Frayed Knot nicely debunks and the argument that it worked well last year so dont change it.
  22. name ALL the palindromic post counts between 0 and edgy's current 17071!
  23. damn, i liked him. not sure why they'd release him when he was only gauranteed 600-800k, unless he asked and they agreed. even if he was a malcontent i'd think there would be some trade value?
  24. does anyone have any friends/family that wanted in? i know we had a few requests last year but we were full. we're at 12 teams, i'd love to have 14.
  25. i'll assume that the 11 voters are in the league and we are fine... so what should the innings cap be???
