  1. anything else that anyone wants to discuss and/or vote on regarding rules?
  2. i'd really like more votes with this slim margin...we'll wait on this poll a little while longer, i think some people forgot about this subforum over the winter as we all forget about little-used subforums (i havent checked the redlight in a month, anything new?)
  3. I'll be signing us up as soon as it opens in a couple of days, at which time i'll post the information you need to join right in this thread. I'd like to ask, as I did last year, that everyone make their team name the same as their Cranepool name so that everyone from the board who wants to join gets in before we open it up to "outsiders." Obviously you can change your team name a few days afterwards if you so choose. thanks.
  4. i think its safe to say we will once again have daily transactions.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Tom Glavine, now your longest tenured New York Met. thats kinda disgusting considering that i still think "Braves" as soon as i hear his name.
  6. I'd suggest that they aren't the most objective in these matters and that their Dollars-to-korean currency calculations must be off or something. i'll trust ESPN's report until given a good reason (words out of the mets mouths) not to.
  7. ]Giving bonus points to Cashman because "no job in baseball carries with it as much stress and pressure as that of Yankees GM" just doesn't fly with me. He has a $200+ payroll the last three seasons and choked against the Red Sox and got skunked by the Angels and Tigers. the playoffs arent his fault, but theres no way he should be top 10, he doesnt have to build a team under the same budget constraints as 20-25 of the other teams.
  8. Edgy DC wrote: I don't think he's handed anything, but I think he reports to camp as a favorite for the fifth slot. In fact, it's possible that rotation that leaves camp is Glavine-Hernandez-Perez-Park-Sosa, Maine having options. i think thats what we're all afraid of...Maine getting treated the way Seo was treated after his good year
  9. Park stinks. bad move.
  10. ]In much the same way, a guy like Bud Harrelson who basically batted leadoff and #8, wouldn't average out to a valuable middle of the order guy, but rather what you'd see from his slots is that he ranks sorta poorly as an offensive player all this would show, for any player, is the manager's perception of their offensive contributions, not what they were actually worth or where t hey should have actually batted in an ideal order.
  11. i think including top 10 organization guys is overinclusive... any Met who made the BA top 50 is a better starting point, we may miss a guy or three but at least we have a pretty good objective starting point
  12. i think the "methodology" here is flawed if you're looking to determine what % of the Mets "hyped" prospects worked out. You should agree on a list of all "hyped" prospects and then decide which ones lived up to the hype and which ones didnt.
  13. i'd go 314256789 or 341256789....i think everyone can agree that "6789" are the last four.... i'm not sure why anyone would put 5 ahead of 1. i could easily be convinced on 1-9 simply because you want your best hitters getting the most plate appearences. if i'm constructing my lineup i'm looking to get my best overall hitter to the plate with men on base, but i'm also looking to get him as many PA as possible (which is why i bat him 3rd not 5th) i'm looking to get men on base to start thegame so i'd want my two highest OBPs batting 1-2 unless those players are already being used to bat 3-4. based solely on the presumption that everyone will repeat their 2006 OBP/SLG numbers i'd have the following lineup: Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Alou, LoDuca, Valentin, Green.
  14. the yankees probably have a better lineup, the Cubs and Rangers are probably close as well. The Indian lineup is formidable, though they probably shot themselves in the foot by signing Trot Nixon instead of planning to platoon out there with the better guys they already have.
  15. the season starts on Sunday April 1st, I want to draft before that (preferrably the night before) but i'm happy with the weekend before (be it saturday or sunday) as well.
  16. i'll sign us up as soon as i can and grab saturday the 30th in the evening if thats what we want? i know last year i signed up on the second day and the draft days we wanted werent open but later opened up (leading me to believe that they reserve these slots initially for their "pay" leagues until they see they wont need that many)
  17. whats with the bouncing boobs? i thought we tried to keep this place "work safe"?
  18. can we try to form a consensus on a draft day? the opener is sunday april 1st, i would like to do it saturday the 30th of march or the weekend before that,
  19. 8-3 with 11 votes in is a pretty solid majority, but we'll give it a few more days to see if some voters show up
  20. its 6-3 with 9 votes, does anyone else care?
  21. metirish wrote: Wait until the new joint is built, loosers like us will not be going to Shea for opening day... with a capacity 15,000 lower and the novelty of a new stadium we'll be luckly to get tickets at all the first year.
  22. ]Seth Cogan, the newly appointed general manager of the Netanya Tigers, shows off his team's jersey with the city's mayor, Miriam Fierberg. for anyone who cares, the jersey in the picture says "Netanya" not "Tigers" ]Aside from the 45-game seasons each summer, IBL organizers hope that the league's best players can team up with Jewish major leaguers to make up an Israeli team to enter the World Baseball Classic in 2009. the WBC needs new rules, the idea that being eligible for citizenship in a country (as opposed to being an actual citizen) makes you eligible to play on that country's team is open to abuse. what happens when the king of Morocco passes a law that says "anyone who has played in MLB is eligible for Morrocan citizenship" so he can build a team?
  23. Migual Tejada, Erubiel Durazo, and a whole bunch of retired and minor league players? sounds fun.
  24. ]I thought of another advantage for creating a situation that gets your kid pitchers five innings--reduced pressure of them to pitch perfectly. Typically, young guys get too fine, and end up walking too many batters, but if Pelfrey comes into a game six runs down several times per year, Willie could instruct him specifically "Don't give them any baserunners--whatever you do, I don't want to see walks," which is appropriate given the game situation, and lets Pelfrey find out what his stuff can do with MLB hitters thats what spring training is for. i'm not going to alter my pitching strategies in the hopes of getting a pitcher with low confidence into a game where i'm losing by alot. if a guy really has problems (and i'm not saying pelfrey does) he should either be at AAA or he should be the long-reliever who already WILL see situations like the one you mention.
  25. i don't agree. you start with your best guy (presumably the starter) because you gaurantee yourself that he pitches innings that are meaningful. if a "middle reliever" starts the game it could be 5-0 before we see the "starter" ]Now, if Mota doesn't get bombed, you gain an advantage in that the opposing manager doesn't know whether to stack the lineup today you can do this by listing your worst pitcher as the starting pitcher every day and pulling him immediately.
