Maybe MLB feels that human growth hormone is often being ingested at home (at least in the modern anti-steroid era) where as spider tack is necessarily being applied right before the game, if not between innings, and so the club knew or should have known the cheating was happening?
  2. =ashie62 post_id=124383 time=1683231586 user_id=90] A few Mets may be wondering if the Boss may make an appearance in the locker room tomorrow
  3. The decline in spin rate from Scherzer's previous start to last night was the biggest decline from one start to another in his career (limited to the time that statcast has been around). His velocity was down again. But, yeah, he wasn't cheating.
  4. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=124134 time=1683070269 user_id=68] I willfully ignore most of the stadium names and mentally refer to them by the stadium names of my youth. As far as I'm concerned, the Phillies still play in Veterans Stadium; the Pirates in Three Rivers, etc., etc. I have no idea what the actual current names are of most of baseball's present stadiums and have long lost interest in making even a minimal effort to keep up. They might as well have their stadium name signage made of velcro. A stadium's name should be somewhat permanent and evoke some meaningful connection to the team that plays there instead of some lawnmower. Like Dodger Stadium. Or Wrigley Field. Or, yuck, Yankee Stadium. The name shouldn't remind us that everything's for sale. Would you like it if your brother changed his first name every two years?
  5. As far as corporate names go, Citi Field isn't a bad one at all, mostly because when you talk about it you are saying (and maybe even thinking) "city field" - the true corporate nature of the name is obscured
  6. I would concur that the size of his contract precludes him being the closer this year - those 30 innings he pitched still represent half a season for many relievers. The value is in trying to keep him healthy.
  7. =Cowtipper post_id=124049 time=1682981272 user_id=166] With a single so far in this game, Baty is now hitting .400 since April 21. Brett Baty == 2023 NL ROY contender
  8. =bmfc1 post_id=123947 time=1682963189 user_id=73] Buck does it again: bringing back a bad pitcher for another inning. I know it's a DH but Reyes had nothing and Buck's decision cost them 2 more runs.
  9. Elbow inflammation! Is that like unexplained arm discomfort. It's more like "this guy is out for the year but we want to ease the fans into that diagnosis"
  10. Edgy MD wrote: I'm not sure what that would have availed them in Game One of a weekend series. Wouldn't Saturday or Sunday just end up getting turned into Fried-day when the game was made up with a doubleheader? I'm not sure, doesn't the home team have discretion as to when the doubleheader is, ie August?
  11. The Mets really should have taken a page out of the Yankees playbook tonight and done the math - Fried + Peterson + Rain = Sorry, no game!
  12. wow Lindor swinging 3-0, Nimmo being sent home would have been out if the catcher handed it, and Pete hitting on through the drawn-in infield. We'll take it!
  13. Lindor squeaks one just over the bag!
  14. Alvarez! let the youth hit!
  15. =bmfc1 post_id=123438 time=1682448477 user_id=73] It's Uceta and ankle sprains.
  16. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=123257 time=1682262178 user_id=68] =kcmets post_id=123204 time=1682197013 user_id=53] =batmagadanleadoff post_id=123176 time=1682185763 user_id=68]Of course they don't matter. The idea that fans matter to the owners is a naive and childlike notion.
  17. Hard not to be satisfied with this west coast trip, now let's get Verlander and Scherzer in the rotation together and build some steam
  18. =Gwreck post_id=123298 time=1682298160 user_id=56] =bmfc1 post_id=123290 time=1682297466 user_id=73]because this game is starting late thanks to your network, Buster
  19. Alonso to dead center! Mets making Giants pay for poor defensive play letting McNeil reach base
  20. A denial of what though? it seems that by his own admission he used rosin other than the rosin bag behind the mound which i'm hearing is the only rosin they are allowed to use? is there stickier rosin? i'm not a rosin expert.
  21. =metirish post_id=123067 time=1682080508 user_id=72] I'm curious to see if the outrage changes minds
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Four-twenty is a slang term for marijuana consumption. It's origin and derivation aren't 100% clear, but it is widely believed to be a reference to meeting at 4:20 PM (presumably after school) to get high. The term appears to have originated in California in the seventies, but didn't seem to get national traction until decades later. Things being what they are, and the squarest of the square wanting to be part of a winking, not-so-inside joke, it has led to 4/20 (the date of tonight's game) being sort of considered a day to celebrate pot smoking. And I guess making opaque references to it makes the guys on the air feel less square. SNY is always thinking about the kids. Some pothead must have been too stoned to realize they scheduled their holiday to coincide with Hitler's birthday.
