Benjamin Grimm

This was originally called Enron Field, wasn't it? For a little while, after the Enron scandal, it was called Astros Field. That's the name I've stuck with in the UMDB. For ballparks that have never had a non-corporate name, I've toyed with the idea of listing them by their addresses. I haven't done that yet, but may start to do so for parks that have had name changes. The site has out of date names for the parks in Atlanta and San Francisco and Phoenix, and perhaps others as well.

I think this is the second time I've been surprised that the Pirates have only had seven pitchers with 200 or more strikeouts in a season. I'm going to have to make a point to remember that Oliver Perez is one of them, for next time it comes up. It was the only one I missed today.

I would consider every one of those covers to be an action shot, since they all take place on the field while the game is being played.

I don't believe that for a minute either.

I think I read that they're not planning on doing that, but I may be remembering from last year.

And Eppler should get some credit for the way he restocked the prospect list when he traded Scherzer and Verlander.

Okay, I looked it up. Here are some of Duquette's most "high-profile" deals: Free agent signings include Mike Cameron, Kaz Matsui, Braden Looper, Todd Zeile (second time with Mets), Scott Erickson, Ricky Bottalico, and James Baldwin. Notable trades: New York Mets traded Timo Perez to the Chicago White Sox for Matt Ginter. New York Mets traded Roger Cedeno to the St. Louis Cardinals for Wilson Delgado and Chris Widger. New York Mets traded Scott Kazmir and Joselo Diaz to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Victor Zambrano and Bartolome Fortunato. New York Mets traded Ty Wigginton, Jose Bautista and Matt Peterson to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger. Not a whole lot to brag about. He was GM from October of 2003 until he was replace by Omar Minaya twelve months later. Omar certainly made some big impactful deals, bringing in (off the top of my head) Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Delgado, Moises Alou, Johan Santana, and others.

I see Jim Duquette on SNY all the time, but I can't say I remember anything specific about his time as the GM. What were his signature deals? I'll have to look it up, unless someone posts something here before I get around to it.

Wow. If I had known about that, I would have offered to let them play in my back yard for half as much.

I wasn't watching closely enough (or often enough) to be able to rank the players by baserunning.

I went with Brodie.

I got a 48. [th][/th][th]A's[/th][th]LEFT FIELD[/th][th]100+ RBI [/th][th]REDS[/th]Joe Morgan 12George Foster 10Frank Robinson 3[th]PADRES[/th]Rollie Fingers 6Kevin McReynolds 3Nate Colbert 5[th]METS[/th]Ron Darling 5Steve Henderson 0.4Rusty Staub 3

Is this about their character? Or about their performance as GM? Jared Porter wasn't around for long, and his character is certainly questionable, but he did swing the trade for Francisco Lindor.

Well, it was suggested by a GM of the past! I expect that the Mets are at a point now where they'd be willing to dip into their prospect pool for the right deal. I'm not sure that this is the one to do that for.

NJ.com reports that Carlos Beltran said the following to a Puerto Rican newspaper: “The Mets want to improve the team and there is no doubt that they will go after free agents, especially Juan Soto, who everybody wants,” he said. “The Mets will go full blast for him.”

Former Mets GM Zack Scott (remember him?) has proposed the following deal: Mets receive: left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet White Sox receive: infielder/outfielder Jett Williams, infielder Ronny Mauricio, infielder Brett Baty and infielder Jesus Baez

We've now completed one week's worth of first-round polls, and we have seven covers that will advance to subsequent rounds. When all is done, the top six covers will receive a second-round bye. (This is assuming that we'll have 26 first-round polls. If the next couple of weeks yield enough covers for one or more additional polls, the number of covers that receive a bye will be reduced.) Here's how our winners rank so far. All we know for sure at this point is that WHAT A MESS won't get a bye and will have to compete in the second round. 1. TALL AT SHORT 2. STEVIE NIXED 3. 16 4. PICCADILLY CIRCUS 5. STARTING STRONG 6. WAITING FOR A PITCH 7. WHAT A MESS http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_01.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_02.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_03.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_04.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_05.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_06.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2024/2024_1_07.png>
