  2. His second appearance allowed him to have a less-than-infinite ERA. So that's something.

  4. I don't know. The convenience of being able to walk to the game, with no worry about parking or post-game traffic is great. But there would be more days and nights when I wasn't attending the game, and the noise and traffic would be annoying. It's hard to say if the pros would outweigh the cons.
  5. Most predictions I've seen have said early December.
  6. Here's a dumb headline in my Google News feed, from something called Marca.com: Do the Mets give up on Juan Soto after acquiring Jose Siri from the Rays? And no, I'm not going to click on the article to see what the answer is.
  7. I found six "Meet the Mess" covers, surprisingly only three of them in the TCD era. It does seem like a very common headline, but maybe this is one of those Nelson Mandela things. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2002/20020328_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2008/20080618_NYP_01.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2008/20080723_NYDN_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2015/20150702_NSD_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2023/20230624_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240929_NSD_02.jpg>

  10. That would suck. If he decides not to go to the Mets, I would advise him to go to the Red Sox or Blue Jays.
  11. We currently have a three-way tie here, with each of our publishers represented once: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO YES! (New York Post) MARTE HEARTY! (New York Daily News) ITS ALL GOOD (Newsday)
  12. I think that white space is where a bar code would be on the printed edition.
  13. My feeling at this point is that Marte probably has more value as a DH (or a platoon DH) than Montgomery would have as a starter.
  14. By calling attention to this poll, I inadvertently turned a two-way tie into a three-way tie. I wasn't looking for a three-way!
  15. This poll has fewer voters than usual, and a tie that will need to be broken. If you haven't chimed in yet, please do so!

  18. I think it was sourced. It traces back to something Carlos Beltran said to a Puerto Rican newspaper.
  19. Yeah, and frankly, I don't see what a GM would do, other then run out to pick up David Stearns' lunch orders.
  20. 6.23 ERA over 117 innings in 2024. He's owed $25 million for 2025. He'll turn 32 next month. I don't see it happening, unless Arizona eats most of his salary.
  21. Free agent starting pitcher. Faced the Mets in the NLCS this year. (As did Jack Flaherty.)
  22. Free agent starting pitcher. Faced the Mets in the NLCS this year. (As did Walker Buehler.)
  23. According to Carlos Baerga (I have no idea whether or not he's in a position to have any inside information) the Mets have made an offer to Soto that's worth $660 million. No word that I've seen about how many years that might cover.
  24. I pretty much tuned out the last couple of months of the 2023 season. I started having account problems at my gf's house (for some reason it thought the location was in the New York blackout area, but it's clearly not) and I barely checked in when I was at home. The team was going so badly that I didn't try too hard to get it resolved, and thankfully it didn't recur for 2024. So while I was aware of Ortega's Methood at the time, by now, his name is no longer even familiar to me.
  25. This was originally called Enron Field, wasn't it? For a little while, after the Enron scandal, it was called Astros Field. That's the name I've stuck with in the UMDB. For ballparks that have never had a non-corporate name, I've toyed with the idea of listing them by their addresses. I haven't done that yet, but may start to do so for parks that have had name changes. The site has out of date names for the parks in Atlanta and San Francisco and Phoenix, and perhaps others as well.
