The conventional wisdom was that he wouldn't sign with the Mets. Remember?

I never thought it was a foregone conclusion that Cespedes would opt out. He surprised everyone last winter, so a second surprise shouldn't necessarily be surprising.

Apparently, and inexplicably, Zvon isn't familiar with the concept of "aging."

I guess it depends on how gaunt Dwight Gooden gets.

I really hope that, somehow, this is going to matter to me.

Don't forget Chief Dan George.

The "How Gaunt is Doc Today?" saga continues with another front page in the Daily News. I'm hoping that none of these ghastly covers ends up winning the 2016 Tabloid Cover Derby.

It seems the reason this has been getting attention is because Darryl Strawberry chose to do some kind of public intervention, using John Harper and the Daily News as his conduit.

I guess it was an oversight! I'll adjust my vote -- because I can!

It doesn't look so bad from a distance... This is the only image I was able to find, using Google Maps. What exactly about it would make one shudder?

That's the genius of Terry Collins! He managed to find a way to get Wilmer two Schaefer awards in the same month, a first for any position player.

Jacob deGrom, with his sixth Pitcher of the Month title, has tied Pedro Martinez for third place. Only R.A. Dickey and Johan Santana have been honored more times. Wilmer Flores is a double winner, getting the overall Player of the Month title as well as being named the Bench Player of the month. This is his first win in both categories. Bench player points in July: Wilmer Flores 2.38, James Loney 1.77, Alejandro De Aza 1.68, Kelly Johnson 0.43, Michael Conforto 0.17. Relief pitcher points in July: Addison Reed 7.80, Jeurys Familia 6.04, Hansel Robles 6.03, Jerry Blevins 3.51, Seth Lugo 3.41, Erik Goeddel 2.84, Antonio Bastardo 1.84, Logan Verrett 1.22.
