  2. I think I'd rather keep Lugo. But what do I know? I was firmly on Team Ike when we were weighing Davis vs. Duda.
  3. John Harper may dispute that: In one-game playoff, Mets could consider healthy Jacob deGrom because of Noah Syndergaard's inability to hold runners As dominant as Noah Syndergaard can be, his problems in controlling the running game are a consideration in a win-or-go-home scenario, where a couple of stolen bases could prove crucial. “That would be a factor for me,” an NL scout said Friday. “Everybody says stolen bases aren’t important anymore, but then you get to the playoffs, and they can be the difference in a ballgame. “DeGrom is much better at holding runners, so if he’s healthy he’d be my choice. But it would be more of a factor if the Mets wind up playing the Giants. The Cardinals don’t run much at all.”
  4. Here's what's cool about Seth Lugo: He shares a first name with Jacob deGrom and a middle name with Noah Syndergaard.
  5. Count me among those who would delay Syndergaard's start.
  6. Yeah, winning one out of three wouldn't be horrible.
  7. I just turned on the Giants-Diamondbacks game, and on the very first pitch I saw, Arizona took a 2-1 lead.
  8. A homer in the top of the ninth by Ryan Braun breaks a 1-1 tie and gives the Brewers a 2-1 win over the Cardinals. To show my appreciation, I'm going to send Braun an AM Crunchwrap!
  9. According to Baseball Reference, Bruce's contract status for 2017 is "$13M Team Option, $1M Buyout"

  11. If I had a million guesses, I couldn't have told you that the Braves' manager was a guy named "Snitker." I suppose I missed (or forgot) the story of Freddi Gonzalez' departure.

  13. Goeddel in the game because of the stupid policy of waiting for a save situation before using Familia.
  14. I was looking forward to seeing him catch up to Ripper Collins.
  15. Bobblehead Night is a very solemn occasion.
  16. I had forgotten that Gant was traded to Atlanta from the Mets.
  17. This is an ideal time for a triple play.
  18. Gant induced 3 double-play grounders in the first and got zero double plays.
  19. And a pleasant good evening everybody...
  20. Another late-season spike by the Mets. However this season turns out, I hope that the 2017 Mets don't wait until August to start scoring runs.

My first instinct was that we should root for a spit of that series, but perhaps a four-game sweep by one team or the other would be better. It benefits the Mets more if one of those two teams is dealt a fatal blow.
  22. The Mets are 4-3 against the Giants this year, so I assume that if they finished in a tie for the first Wild Card spot, the do-or-die game would be played at Citi Field. The Mets are 3-3 against the Cardinals, so I'm not sure who would get home field if those two teams tied for the first spot. I assume that a tie for the second Wild Card would result in a one-game playoff to determine who would get to play the first Wild Card team. In that case, home field might be determined by a coin toss? And given how close the race currently is, there's always the possibility that the Mets, Cardinals, and Giants end in a three-way tie. Unless some space opens between the three teams in the next couple of weeks, I imagine that we'll be seeing an announcement from MLB about how that would be handled.
