  1. Wrong domain name. We're now at thecranepool.net
  2. It's not hard when you use Google: http://archives.thecranepool.net/17000/f1_t17065.shtml http://archives.thecranepool.net/22400/f1_t22455.shtml Sheesh.
  3. Voting for all games played between July 1 and July 22 will close on Friday morning, August 12, some time after 7 a.m.
  4. So it was more like "Ernie Douglas Syndrome"?
  5. Sounds like an example of "Cousin Oliver Syndrome".
  6. I like it. It's worthwhile just to get out from under the obligation to Bastardo for next year. (This advantage might be mitigated, depending on the amount of cash that was sent to Pittsburgh.)
  7. Cast your vote! REMINDER: =#400080]As noted in the Schaefer thread, there will be a bit of a hiatus in voting availability because I'll be traveling the next two weeks. I may or may not be pasting box scores, but even if I do, it will be sporadic. If you prefer to make your voting choices while the memory of the game is fresh, you may want to consider recording your points offline somewhere. I'll be returning around August 5 and will try to get caught up quickly after that.
  8. We're going to leave tomorrow on a roughly two-week jaunt. I can't promise that I'll paste any box scores into the UMDB during that time; I almost certainly won't be doing it every morning, so there will be a Schaefer disruption. We expect to return around August 5. This means that all or most games played between July 23 and August 5 will have a delayed start to voting. If your preference is to make your choices shortly after the game is played, while your memory is still fresh, I suggest logging your Schaefer points for each game offline somehow. Or, if you prefer, you can catch up in two weeks after I get caught up with the box scores. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
  9. Article in the Daily News this morning reveals that Piazza's plaque will have 83 words. My first draft, which opened this thread, had 46, so I came in under by 37 words. Vic Sage's revision had 130 words, which was high by 47. The actual text, as far as I know, had not yet been revealed.
  10. I'm so sorry! Now his plaque will be forever tainted!
  11. Many months later, I caught two errors in this. Vic Sage wrote: MIKE PIAZZA LOS ANGELES, N.L. 1992-1998; FLORIDA, N.L. 1998; NEW YORK, N.L. 1998 – 2005; SAN DIEGO, N.L. 2006; OAKLAND, A.L. 2007 62ND ROUND DRAFT PICK BY L.A. 13. We took a crack at this in January: Write Mike Piazza's HOF plaque
  14. I always remember there being a Mets logo where that "creepy face" is. But I do recall hearing that it was originally intended to be an early version of Diamond Vision but it didn't work out. I wonder when they gave up on that experiment? I first started watching the Mets in 1971 and by then the Mets logo was definitely in place.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: Gary's wrong about the pitchers' numbers on the Shea scoreboard, there absolutely was a time when you had to check the program in order to find out which number corresponded with which pitcher. But didn't the scorecard indicate the pitcher's uniform number rather than some arbitrary sequential number? It wouldn't be 1 Cuellar 2 Dobson 3 McNally 4 Palmer. (Would it?)
