  1. They should bring Howard Johnson and Jerry Grote out of retirement. Both came tantalizingly close to 1,000 hits as a Met.
  2. I got an e-mail today, quoting this UMDB memory from 2001, without further comment. I'm thinking that the sender might have been thinking that this is racist? http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0308&tabno=7Memories of Claudell Washington 007 November 3, 2001 The biggest nostrils I've ever seen. Must've picked his nose with his bat.

  4. That kid doesn't want to be photographed.
  5. She's prettier when she's NOT smiling.
  6. He still has a few coaches and a Chairman of the Board that he can try to pass, if he needs the incentive.
  7. Looks that way: http://leaptoad.com/mets/necrology.php?sortby=Ahttp://leaptoad.com/mets/necrology.php?sortby=A
  8. He was the 12th-oldest living Met at the time of his death. Jimmie Schaffer moves into the Top Twenty, and Billy Cowan moves into the Top Forty.
  9. And "Albert" is an anagram for "Tabler"
  10. Yeah, I think he'll be around for a while. And if he gets traded, it will be for an impact player, unless his star dims, of course.
  11. Geez, I hope those days are behind us. I hope at least that the shitty reliever keeps his ERA in the sevens.
  12. Yes, but that's a different story. Those people definitely should have done something. And that's a story that needs to be told.
  13. Good grief. If he was so bad at hiding it then obviously a lot of people were looking the other way. What do you do though, if you have a co-worker who outranks you and is behaving badly? I know what the right thing to do is, but it's not at all an easy thing to do.

  15. I agree. Teams only have to wait a few weeks into April. If it was June 1 they'd be less likely to make these kinds of delays.
  16. Hampton Bay.
  17. Let's see... I think they would have retained Stroman and maybe signed McCann. They would have traded Rosario in a lesser deal and put Gimenez at shortstop. Instead of Carrasco and Walker they probably would have added two pitchers the likes of Porcello and Wacha. Matz would probably still have been traded. They probably would have signed relievers other than May and Loup.
  18. He's trying to woo Bauer's wife.
  19. The other part of the calculus is that getting Smith out of the outfield allows Nimmo to move to a corner spot and someone else into center. That would help the defense (assuming that Alonso is capable at third base) but how much of an impact on the offense would it have? JD Davis is probably better than he's been getting recent credit for. It's good that they're looking for ways to be flexible. I wonder whose idea this was? The manager? The acting GM? Sandy?
  20. You had me going with that thread title! My home town!
  21. How do you feel about Bauer not signing with the Mets?
  22. One day I feel so happy, next day I feel so sad. I guess I'll learn to take the good with the bad. Cause each night I ask the stars up above, Why must I be a teenager in love?
  23. I'm wondering which is a greater vulnerability: Alonso at third or Smith in left field? If Alonso plays third better than Smith plays left, then you can get someone like Pillar to play in the outfield. I suspect, though, that Alonso is extremely unlikely to become the regular 3B, but might be able to play there in a pinch.
  24. That's... interesting. Has he ever played third base before at any level?
