Nice hit by McCann, but another loss. So much for beating up on the lowly Marlins.

I'm starting to think that the last day on which the Mets didn't have a roster move was probably back some time around 1935.

I agree. His numbers weren't what we wanted them to be, but he definitely had an impact. He's been missed.

They need someone to carry this team on his back, like Cespedes did in 2015. Alonso is giving it his best shot, but it's not resulting in as many wins as we need it to.

Am I supposed to continue the game now? Let's keep it in Missouri and try the St. Louis... Browns!

Voting for all remaining games that were played in the month of July will close on the morning of Tuesday, August 10. If you have any games that you still intend to vote for, please try to do so over the next seven days. http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/images/warning.gif> http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/Cast your votes now!

Well, that was fun while it lasted. I guess.

So we had one day with a 13-man pitching staff and now we're back up to 14.

http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00041.jpg> Apparently Rose and Harrelson had a war of words leading up to their legendary on-the-field dustup. Meanwhile, that photo of Felix Millan and Johnny Bench really brings me back. Before the Internet, if we didn't watch the game we'd only be able to see one or perhaps a handful of grainy black-and-white shots of game action. That's the kind of photo I might have clipped from the newspaper and pasted in a scrapbook.

BLASTS FROM THE PAST, METS HALL OF FAME EDITION http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00037.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00039.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00038.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00040.jpg> Yesterday they talked about Darling's win in World Series Game Four, but my lasting memory of Ron Darling is that October game he pitched in St. Louis against John Tudor. I remember watching that at my grandmother's house because I had a power failure at home because of Hurricane Gloria. Glad it wasn't a SportsChannel game! In the Matlack article from 1973, I like how they had to explain that "stats" means "statistics".

So, the Mets will add Javier Baez to the active roster today. Who goes to make room for him? If it's a position player, I guess it will be Brandon Drury, someone who really deserves to stay. Or would it be Guillorme or Villar? I'd rather see them shed a pitcher. They currently have 14 on the active roster. I would send Anthony Banda to Syracuse. There's also going to be the question of uniform numbers. Will Baez get number 9, or will Nimmo retain the number?

When I predicted an extension for Baez, I didn't mean that it's going to happen in the next few weeks. I'm thinking it will happen between the last game of the season and the start of free agency. That may not technically be an "extension" so perhaps I used the wrong word.

Anthony diComo wrote: About an hour before the Trade Deadline on Friday, Mets general manager Zack Scott emerged from the clubhouse to engage in a brief conversation with shortstop Francisco Lindor, who was taking ground balls on the field. The two spoke for several moments before Scott descended back into the bowels of Citi Field. A few minutes later, surrounded by his teammates, Lindor let out a joyful scream.

So it's just PCA and nobody else? Huh.

Must be a crappy day to be a Cubs fan.
