  1. Mark Feinsand suggests that the Mets might consider Eugenio Suarez. He's a big right-handed bat, but he'd be yet another infielder. Or, perhaps, a DH.
  2. It feels very strange to me to see that. I had thought that it would come up in its original state while the changes were being made behind the scenes. I have no stake in the site anymore, and no say in what happens, so Que Sera, Sera.
  3. Yeah, they might as well keep their prospects and see how they develop. Certainly don't trade any top prospects for a one-year rental. Or for Luis Robert.
  4. I assume it's the latter, that the Guardians just give up some spending power, not actual cash. But I'm not certain of that.
  5. I assume the Mets wanted to refill their coffers after giving $3.9 million to Wandy Asigen.
  6. Reports indicate that a decision may come as soon as today. Mets offering four years, maybe five. Toronto possibly offering as many as ten.
  7. Rumor has it that it's down to the Mets, Dodgers, and Blue Jays, and that the Jays are most willing to go long-term with Tucker. And the Mets are offering the highest AAV, and the Dodgers are somewhere in between. He might take the more money on the shorter term because he's young enough to be a prime free agent one more time. Or maybe not.
  8. There's speculation that this can be decided this week. I'd be okay with Tucker as a short-term solution, so four years with multiple opt-outs is fine. I hope they get him.
  9. I'd give that my stamp of approval too. It may include an opt-out (and I hate opt-outs) after year one or two, and if that's what's necessary to close the deal then I'd approve that as well.
  10. As last season demonstrated, it's hard to ever feel that you have enough starting pitcher options. It almost seems like you need twelve starters to protect your changes of having five available at any given time.
  11. From time to time I see some buzz that the Mets may consider signing Max Scherzer or Justin Verlander to a one-year contract. Estimates are that either would be willing to sign for a "mere" $15 million. Much less, of course, than the $40+ million they got last time around. I'd be surprised if this happened, but given the way this offseason is going I suppose a lot of things are possible.
  12. You're welcome! I was probably more of a savior back in 2018 when the forum moved to ultimatemets.com. This time around, Edgy MD deserves a big chunk of the credit for providing our current domain. I'd also, while I'm here, like to thank KC again for playing matchmaker and helping to find the UMDB its new home.
  13. Well, the transfer is complete. The domain is no longer mine. I'm still seeing my version of the site but that should soon change as the transfer propagates over the various servers.
  14. Didn't he also say something about split seasons, which would be another terribly awful idea?
  15. There was a delay on the other end over the holidays, but the transfer has now been accepted by the new owner. I'll still have custody of the UMDB through at least Monday afternoon, but at any point after that, it will be in its new hands. After 27 years, I will be officially done. I feel a very very very slight feeling of wistfulness, but no regrets at all. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new administration does with the site. I expect that months from now it will look very different.
  16. This article may be behind a paywall if you're not a subscriber, but I think The New Yorker allows a few free reads a month. It's an interesting look at the economics of modern sports stadiums. How the Sports Stadium Went Luxe Some brief interesting snippets:
  17. I agree. I don't think it's nothing, but it's probably not the big something that it's often made out to be.
  18. I can imagine the Mets giving him a five-year deal with an opt out after two.
  19. Someone like Peterson would also meet the definition of "a major-league-ready starting pitcher" but I don't know if that would satisfy the Brewers. It obviously wouldn't be a one-for-one. The Mets would have to add someone else, but perhaps not necessarily a starter.
  20. I'd take Robert if the Mets can get him in exchange for a Single-A batboy. I think one year of Tucker would be better than zero years of Tucker. And probably better than eleven years of Tucker. I don't think the Mets want to put themselves in a position where both Soto and Tucker are making big money in their late thirties.
  21. I agree. I'd much rather see four eights than eight fours.
  22. Dave Kingman. Sorry for the brevity!
