I rarely listen on the radio anymore. I have MLB.tv, so I can watch most games, other than those annoying Apple TV games and similar. And I work from home, so there's not much opportunity to listen in the car. But on the occasions that I do listen to the radio broadcast, it will be strange not to hear Howie. Even to an infrequent radio listen, Howie Rose is a familiar voice, especially when he hosts the on-field ceremonies. (I hope they still let him do that. I imagine that Gary Cohen is salivating for the chance to take that over.) He will be missed.

So he's going to put it in the books. He just turned 72 last month. I hope he has a long, healthy, and happy retirement. (I'd like one of those myself, come to think of it.)

Does anyone else get email invitations to participate in Fans At Bat surveys? I almost always take the survey, but each time I expect that I submit the responses that are most disappointing to them. I don't have any guesses about who the postseason award winners will be. I don't watch the postseason unless the Mets are in it. I didn't watch the WBC. I don't know who their sponsors are and I don't really pay much attention to what networks carry the games. They even sometimes ask me what my feelings are about corporate sponsors that I've never heard of. When they ask me what stories I'm following, they always involve the Mets. I keep waiting for them to tell me that they no longer want my input! I suppose the reason I keep opening these surveys is to look for opportunities to share my opinion about the recent rules changes, some of which I like but some of which I despise.

I'm also more concerned about Manaea than about Peterson. If two of them fizzle there's still Myers, Scott, and Tong, but of course it's much better if they don't have to start using up their depth too quickly. It seems like the most important thing in recent years is to not run out of starting pitchers.

I suspect that delaying Benge's free agency eligibility is a consideration, although the Mets wouldn't say that publicly.

You can look at the star or the dot to the left of the topic title. If it's bright orange, there are unread posts. And if it's dim, you're caught up. Same is true of the individual forums. If the icon next to the subforum title is dim, then there are no unread threads in that subform.

1. Yes, that's an appropriate place. 2. That's where we brag about our personal accomplishments and/or disclose our illnesses. If we decide to keep it, it should be restricted to Old-Timers. 3. I noticed that the Tabloid Cover Derby archives isn't included. This is one of those that will be empty until and unless the archive files are restored.

I agree that there's an awful lot of white. Maybe putting a light shaded background on the posts and the forum listings would help, as would a more distinctive separator between posts. And I also agree that the pale grey navigational text would be better if darker and bolder.

If you convert the archive files into actual threads, most of those forums will no longer be empty.

Brock intends to clear out all of the Twins stuff. Hopefully that will happen soon. The forum is pretty much unusable in its current state.

All of the Twins content is confusing for now. I'm looking forward to seeing what this place looks like in a day or two after the dust has settled.

Nobody seems to be saying this out loud, but isn't it to the Mets' advantage to hold him back for a while to delay his free agency? -
Two reasons for that, I think. 1. The cap on the plaque thing made this seem inevitable. 2. Having a number retired is an honor that has become more and more devalued.
