  1. He sounds pretty good. I'm glad to see that he has major league experience, can start, and has five years of team control.
  2. Laura Albanese of Newsday suggests that Baty and Taylor will be in the mix for left field.
  3. I found this on the Metsmerized Online site. The quote is from over a year ago. https://metsmerizedonline.com/can-brett-baty-play-left-field/
  4. At this point, I think it will be either Taylor or Baty, depending on how spring training plays out.
  5. I really like the top three. After that, as you say, it's anybody's guess. It could be very strong, or pretty weak. Of course, there will be adjustments as the season progresses. Adding Bichette helps a lot, but I'm still not terribly optimistic at this point.
  6. It looks like opt-outs are here to stay, doesn't it? This isn't really a five-year contract; it's more like a two-year contract.
  7. I agree with both paragraphs above. I think Bellinger isn't going to happen. I would have preferred him to Robert, but Robert is a shorter-term commitment, so there's that. And yes! Pitching! Let's go all in on Framber Valdez. If they can fill out their roster by signing Valdez, Bichette, and trading Acuna for Robert, then they really haven't put a dent in their list of prospects. I'll be very pleased if the Mets still have Tong and Sproat in the organization on April 1, especially since they've been named in virtually every rumor.
  8. I'm just glad they got him at a lesser cost than some of the earlier rumors indicated. I'm sorry to see Acuna go, but I'm not sure he'd have been much more than a Teddy Martinez for the Mets. (Am I showing my age?) It would be fantastic if Robert would go back to his 2023 self, but it's not seeming very likely. But there's a reason that there's a Comeback Player of the Year Award, so maybe...?
  9. Players mostly seem to want the opt-out to come sooner instead of later. I think the recent Soto contract is more the exception (in many ways) than the rule.
  10. There were some reports that indicated that the Yankees are fed up and done with him, but I'm definitely skeptical about that.
  11. Well, a lot of people seem to be talking about Cody Bellinger, but he doesn't have a thread yet in this forum. There's a lot of speculation that the Mets and Yankees are the most interested parties. A decision may come soon.
  12. Framber is still out there. Just bumping this thread in case any news breaks.
  13. I saw an article that seemed AI generated that said that the Phillies were furious at the Mets, but didn't provide any details. I can see that they may be angry at the player but it doesn't seem reasonable that they'd be angry at the team that signed him. There are so many ****** news reports out there. And it's only likely to get worse over time.
  14. For future reference: UMDB Classic can be found at https://leaptoad.com/mets I'll probably keep it updated, but at a much smaller scale. I'll update the stats, but just for the big-league team. Not the minor leaguers. I'll enter game results, but no box scores. No transactions. No player-of-the-week etc. awards. No updating the other teams that Mets players have played for. Probably won't keep track of coaches either. Maybe I'll stick with the necrology. This is mainly just for me, as the UMDB was when I first created it way back when in its initial simple form. But that doesn't mean I can't share it with the CPF. But it's not intended for the general public. If you notice any broken links, let me know and I'll fix them when I get a chance.
  15. This whole "run prevention" thing seems to have gone off the rails. Polanco at first, Bichette at third, Baty in left. That's a lot of inexperience if it indeed plays out that way.
  16. I'll keep it for the foreseeable future. I may change the URL. If so I'll post it here. Maybe I'll rebrand it as Ultimate Mets Classic? Or something else? Suggestions welcome.
  17. The old version of the site survives (with some broken image links) at https://leaptoad.com/ultimatemets.com We'll see what becomes of that. If it looks like a more viable resource (to me and those of us here who want to use it) than the new site then maybe I'll keep it going, with minimal updates.
  18. And hopefully he'd be better than Todd Hundley was.
  19. I do wonder what kind of feedback they're getting, if any. I no longer have access to the email box, so I have no idea.
  20. I'd love to have him for longer than one year, but if it's just for 2026, then so be it. We'll have a better team with him here, and it's a one-year rental that didn't cost any prospects, so that's really good. There's still at least one starting pitcher to add. I don't know if they'll sign one or trade for one from their surplus of infielders. I suppose it's possible that Semien never plays for the Mets, but who knows.
  21. That remains to be seen. It depends on how the new site shapes up. If I want to continue to use the old site for my own purposes I'll keep it up. I can easily paste the player stats once a week or so. I won't be doing box scores or other stuff. But we'll see what happens.
  22. Okay, so he's probably a one-year Met. I wonder what Brett Baty is thinking right now.
  23. In his career, 31 games at DH and 716 at shortstop. Never played anywhere else in the field. I wonder what the plan is for him?
  24. I don't want to undermine the new guy, but here's a secret: https://leaptoad.com/ultimatemets.com
