  1. ="Frayed Knot"]Remeber that Sunday July 1st game in Philly that was changed from a day game to night for TV purposes? ... Well they changed it back. Good! I have tickets and didn't want to go to a game that starts at 8:09 p.m.

  4. Marathon pretty much proved that eliminating outliers would have a negligible effect, while costing me great effort. Simply put, we're not gonna do it.

Everyone else (so far) has been at 5 or more. So he's not going to "get" only 3. He'll just about sure to end up over 5, which is fair. I agree though that many voters don't give starting pitchers enough points. I also think managers don't give starting pitchers enough innings, but that's a different story.
  6. José Reyes needs one more hit to become the 24th Met to reach 600. George Foster is just ahead of him in 23rd place, with 602. And David Wright needs five more hits to reach 500 and tie Doug Flynn for 34th place.
  7. Yesterday's win was the 121st for David Wright. Only two Mets have more: Keith Hernandez with 168 and Dwight Gooden with 160. If I had been counting daily winners all the way back to 1999, instead of starting in April 2003, Keith and Doc would have much higher numbers. And so would Mike Piazza, who's in sixth place with 80. McGraw has 84 official wins, Seaver has 83, Mazzilli has 77 and Darling has 67. After that comes a steep drop: Dykstra 44, Strawberry 28, Kranepool 20.
  8. I just watched the game this morning. Was disappointed that Sosa didn't get to finish the game.

  12. Oh well. I figured the odds were long. I don't think I'll be doing that bulldozer-chaining thing either.
  13. I really liked Tiger Stadium. I attended a few games there in 1988. I had a co-worker from Chicago who thought I was nuts, but I think Tiger Stadium had a lot more charm than Wrigley Field. I'm glad it's still standing. I hope they somehow find a use for it so that it can survive.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: His contract is three years guaranteed Ugh! I had forgotten (or blocked) that. He better get that unnecessary muscle fixed.
  15. Do you have a jersey for the best Met/Tiger ever: Rusty Staub?
  16. Two things: 1. I like that the Mets players, in rebelling against the batting practice caps, chose the classic blue game cap instead. 2. Paul Lukas would have made a good CPFer. Maybe we can get him to try again.

  18. If we get to a point where we need Dave Williams I think we'll be in real trouble.
  19. Even in championship seasons, losing streaks happen. If the Mets turn it around relatively soon, this will just be a blip. If it's the start of one of those stretches where they lose about 18 of 21 or something hideous like that, then we could be doomed. (Some years it seemed like a stretch like that in August was a virtual certainty.) I'm not panicky yet. Only very mildly concerned. Still a long way to go. Let's see where we're at a month from now.
  20. That IS good news!

  23. Well, from within the organization, I guess Ricky Ledee is probably the first choice. But maybe they can consider Chip Ambres (at New Orleans) or Caleb Stewart (at Binghamton).
