  1. It's about time Delgado was dropped in the lineup. I think he should stay in the 6th position until he proves he should return to cleanup.
  2. Before the draft, I'm sure some players signed with teams based on there being a more clear path to the majors. If you're a catcher, do you want to sign with the team that has Mickey Cochrane, or the one that has Hank DeBerry?
  3. There are more kids playing baseball in Latin America than there are in Harlem. I tend to agree with Edgy that I'd rather see the draft eliminated than expanded. It would be interesting to see what would happen if, as an experiement, players from Florida or California were exempt from the draft for a few years.

  5. That's a valid opinion. But it doesn't make sense to condemn any team that's taking advantage of the current rules. If the Mets weren't trying to play a big role in the DR and the rest of Latin America, and Asia, I'd be annoyed at them for missing out on an opportunity. And I'd be more upset about the lack of a draft if I felt that the Dominican kids were being exploited. (I'm not saying they're not, but from what I currently know I don't think they are.)
  6. I guess the practice of signing undrafted Dominicans. It would be very foolish for any team to turn their back on the Dominican Republic. I also don't see how the lack of a draft harms young Dominican players. They actually get the right to bargain with multiple teams. Unless I'm overlooking something, the only parties harmed by the lack of a draft are teams that scout less aggressively.

  8. Wasn't Giambi himself the source? He said that he "gets tested more than anyone" and the only reason, according to the articles, for the additional scrutiny would be a prior positive test. Positive steroid tests are made public, positive amphetimine tests are not. Yes, the Daily News was reading between the lines but, at least in the article that I read (I wish I remember which one it was) the author explained how he came to that conclusion.

What the fuck? I've never heard that. Am I an ignorant moron (rhetorical!) or is anybody else hearing this for the first time? Take anything from Steve with a grain of salt. Hundley seems a pretty likely candidate, though. The others are all possibilities too, I guess, but I think Steve was reporting his own speculations. If I were to place bets on Mets with steroids, I'd start with Dykstra and Hundley. (Actually, I'd start with Mota and Urdeneta, but I think the betting windows are closed for those two.)

  13. What an awful cap. Seven letters is way too many to be on the front of a baseball cap. I think the limit should be three. (I would have said two but I'm willing to put in a grandfather clause for the White Sox.)

  16. I think if I were in the audience I'd be more pleased by the fact that it only ran nine minutes than I would be annoyed by whatever it lacked of quality content. I don't remember a thing that Mario Cuomo said when I graduated, and I tried to listen and pay attention, because at that point (1985) he still was a possible future president.
  17. Understandable. You have some trouble discerning between two slightly different flavors of idiot. Nothing to be ashamed of.
  18. Here it is: ="Bob Raissman"]WALDMAN MAULS 'DOG': If Chris (Mad Dog) Russo was really a dog, Suzyn (Georgie Girl) Waldman might have been charged with cruelty to animals on Saturday. Yet, some might say Doggie deserved the verbal whipping Ma Pinstripe put on him. Russo mentioned the confrontation yesterday while working WFAN's "Impostors in the Morning" AM drive-time show with Mike Francesa (FranDog also talked about it in the afternoon). Waldman, still upset over FranDog mocking her Clemens gaga trip the Sunday that Rocket announced his return to the Bronx (the frantic WCBS-AM radio description was played over and over), tore into Russo after the two came face to face outside the Mets radio booth at Shea. Russo, according to well-embedded moles, tried defusing the situation by telling Waldman, "We were just having some fun." Waldman wasn't buying Russo's damage control/jive. She said she hoped he had "his two days of fun," but had "ruined her life" in the process." Following her down a corridor, Russo tried calming Waldman. But his attempt to soothe backfired. Momma P, screaming, dropped two fat F bombs on Russo before accusing him of "talking behind my back" for "20 years." Waldman's partner John (Pa Pinstripe) Sterling was marked absent during the blowout. No doubt he was high ... far ... gone. FranDog. Ma Pinstripe. Pa Pinstripe. Georgie Girl. Momma P. Impostors in the Morning. Raissman sure crams a lot of stupid nicknames into a handful of paragraphs. He'd be more readable if he'd cut back on that nonsense.

Nymr83 wrote: ]including Suzyn Waldman hunting down Mike Francesa at Shea Stadium this weekend and cursing him out those might be my two least-favorite sports-related people (that don't actually play/manage a team) in New York. I read in the News that it was Russo she hunted down. Maybe she had her say with both of them individually. I think, according to Raismann, she said something about how Russo "ruined her life." I'll go look for the quote...
  20. You're probably not totally wrong. However, I do remember us mocking David Wright for some of his "golly gee" comments, and his endorsement of that feces drinking guy. We made fun of Mike Piazza for his metrosexuality and his comment about how history moves chronologically through time. And I think we got on Keith Hernandez when he reacted to the female trainer in the San Diego dugout that time. I don't think the problem is that Mets employees don't get enough bile from us; I think that sometimes we're probably too quick to tear apart comments from sportswriters and sportscasters. It's okay to disagree with what they write, but at times we're too nitpicky about it.

  22. And instead of dividing by 16, you divided everyone's total by 14. Newhan loses 0.14 points. Green has no change. All remaining players lose between 0.03 and 0.06 points. As I suspected, the extra effort in tallying would result in minimal impact to the final totals. And this was perhaps the game that had the most extreme variance. Thanks for doing the grunt work, marathon! Good job.
  23. I think when this was first proposed last year, each individual player's highest and lowest vote would be tossed.
  24. Bean Stringfellow, I believe, is Wagner's agent.
