  1. iramets wrote: I understand (from Mike Incessant, so this may be wrong) that Reyes has scored only 3 runs in the past 10 games, which is obviously less than sufficient. So if he's one of the few going good, that spells trouble. Well, Reyes hasn't been scoring runs, but he has been getting on base. His lack of scoring is more the fault of his teammates than of himself. But you don't need to microanalyze Jose Reyes' stats to know that there's been trouble. The ten losses in twelve games is a much more obvious sign. NameGABRH2B3BHRRBIBBSOHBPSBCSAvg.TBSlg.OBPJosé Reyes1248315010364032.31317.354.389
  2. Well, Maine and Sosa don't have to for this series. But yes, everyone else does. (David Wright and Reyes are the only one who haven't been underperforming this month.) http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/metannual.php?ThisYear=2007&tabno=2&month=06&bsortby=h&psortby=
  3. Huh! I'm surprised that FOX isn't making Mets-Yankees its Saturday Game of the Week. I know that most of the country doesn't care about New York vs. New York, but I don't think FOX has ever snubbed a Subway Series before. You'd think that they'd at least carry it as an alternate game so they could air it in the New York market. They probably would have carried it if Clemens was pitching on Saturday. I sense impending disaster this weekend. Perez, Glavine, and Hernandez need to step up this weekend. And so do Beltran, Delgado, Reyes, etc.
  4. Bumping this just in case anyone else has seen it by now and would like to cast a vote. Today Spidey 3 starts its seventh week in the theaters. That's a pretty long run, isn't it? I don't pay attention to such things, but I wonder how long most hit movies stay in release, and how quickly the flops are shut down?
  5. Time to make this thread a poll. I've read a few more reviews, and none are as positive as the one with three stars from Jack Matthews of the Daily News. The general consensus seems to be that it's better than the first movie, but still not all that good. We'll be going to the 7:25 p.m showing tonight. I'll miss Mets vs. Yankees, but I'm afraid that's probably a good thing. (Maybe I'll watch it on TiVo-delay, but I can't stay up too late because I have an early flight tomorrow morning.)
  6. Jack Matthews in The Daily News today gave the new FF movie three stars and said that it's a lot better than the first movie. That's encouraging. I watched the first movie again last night on DVD; it was only the second time I had seen it and the first since the night it opened in theaters two years ago. I again had to gnash my teeth at how badly they handled the character of Doctor Doom. But there were parts that I enjoyed. The whole "Galactus is a giant cloud" thing has really dampened my enthusiasm for FF/Surfer, but seeing a good review in the paper this morning has me feeling a little more optimistic. I'll be seeing it tomorrow. Good or bad, there's no way I want to miss seeing a Fantastic Four movie on the day it opens.
  7. From my outside-looking-in perspective, I think that that's been Willie's strength: keeping the team loose and focused. But he obviously hasn't been getting that done lately. Maybe they're too loose and not focused enough. I didn't see or read it, but the other night Gary Cohen mentioned an article by Marty Noble on Mets.com that said the the Mets were laughing in the shower while Tom Glavine was facing the press after his miserable outing in Detroit. And Ron Darling then said something about how he used to get pissed off if the club was having a good time after a bad loss.

  10. And you could put Ed Coleman in the broadcast booth.
  11. So it's thinner, huh? I guess I can take comfort in the likelihood that it costs more.
  12. I don't think it's being presented as a virtue. I read it more like a peek into his head, an indication that Omar feels a need to be understood. (I think it's probably, as you say, a sign that he's not all that articulate, but to me it seems like the author is putting a different spin on that.)
  13. Is this on newstands now? Maybe I'll pick up a copy at the airport on Saturday. It will be a good reading option on the plane. (It's been years since I last held a copy of Sports Illustrated in my hands. I was a subscriber for about 15 years.)
  14. Voting for Monday night's loss in Los Angeles will close on Thursday: http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6586 Also, I will be away starting Saturday morning. I will probably have some access to the Internet, and may vote in some of the Schaefer threads, but I won't have my magic spreadsheet with me, so there won't be any tallying until after I get back on June 24. Wednesday's game will be tallied on Friday, and then the games will pile up for about a week or so. We do apologize for any inconvenience.
  15. Too bad they didn't do this a couple of years ago. They could have included a lap dance from Anna Benson.

  24. And there it is! Thanks for solving the mystery, Lundy!
  25. It also takes a hell of a long time to win 2000 games as a manager. I looked at guys like Davey Johnson and Frank Robinson and they didn't even come close. Willie Randolph will probably have to manage into his 80's (or longer) to get 2,000 wins.
