But here's a question: If they don't make any moves for the year, what place do you think they will finish in? I'm saying that without making a move, they're as likely to finish in third place as they are to finish in first.
  3. I think Griffey is probably just more likeable, although the seven years is probably a factor. His abilities aside, what have we seen of Alex Rodriguez that would make anyone like him?
  4. If they send somebody down to make room for DiFelice or Alomar, then doesn't the guy they send down have to stay there for at least a week, unless somebody else is injured? Maybe they should thinking about sending down someone who gets used infrequently, like Sele. They can send down Sele, promote DiFelice. Then send down DiFelice and promote Pelfrey. After a week, send down Pelfrey and promote Sele again. I don't know if Sele's contract or status would prevent them from doing that without his agreement, but perhaps he can be coaxed to agree.
  5. Well, yeah, they CAN win with what they have. They can also finish in third place with what they have. There's certainly room for improvement with the 2007 Mets. I don't like the idea of not doing anything because they might be good enough.
  6. ]I'd love to see the team get a starting pitcher, but I think the much bigger need is a run-producing corner outfielder. Me too. Especially since Alou and Green are unsigned beyond this year. There's room for another outfielder or two in 2008. I don't think it's likely that the outfield of the future (Beltran/Gomez/F. Martinez/Milledge) is going to be sufficient for next season, so they'll need to get somebody. And they might as well get that somebody during this season, when he might be a difference maker either in the pennant race or in the postseason.
  7. For the moment, at least, I'd say that Gomez is more deserving of a spot on the big league roster than Milledge is.
  8. If he's playing well, and it's August? Sure. By then the New Orleans season will be almost over anyway, and he might as well stick around for the ride to the postseason, if the Mets are so fortunate. He'd be a good guy to have on the bench in the playoffs: he can run, he can play defense, and he can hit a little bit too.
  9. That's a question that doesn't need to be answered yet. By that time, someone else may be hurt. Or Gomez may not be playing well. Or they can have five outfielders on the team: Gomez, Chavez, Beltran, Alou, and Green.
  10. I remember around June 1 his return was imminent. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. Then suddenly the prognosis changed to "not soon."
  11. MFS62 wrote: That pesky fucker has been a real thorn in the side of the Mets for a long time. No, he really hasn't: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=6439 You're thinking of three games in 2004 and one homer last October. Mostly, he's been pretty ineffective against the Mets. And the Mets have very few pitchers this season who were around in 2004.
  12. It looks like the Mets recent winning streak hasn't been enough to overcome the voter apathy caused by all the losing that the team has done this month. We seem to be down to about 10 or 11 core voters, which isn't much higher than the 7 we were down to at the end of last year. Hopefully the Mets will continue to win and enthusiasm for Schaefer will pick up as well. Anyway, the series against the Yankees and Twins are wrapped up. The three games at Shea against the Athletics will close tomorrow (Wednesday). 22. I'm mostly surprised that Clemens was even at the game. What was he doing in San Francisco if he wasn't scheduled to pitch there? I thought he'd be playing golf in Houston.
