  6. I'm looking for two more homers from Delgado tonight.
  7. "Joe" is still the only name to be had by more than one Mets manager.
  8. Sneers kinda like Dick Cheney.
  9. How is it possible to photograph the Count, anyway?
  10. He'd have us down to zero before the end of the day today.
  11. I went to bed after the 11th inning and watched the 12th this morning on TiVo-delay. Nice way to start the day! I've never even tried to understand the balk rule, so I have no opinion about whether it was a good call or not. (It did look like Delgado noticed it just as the umpire did, though.) You know an umpire is conscientious, however, when he calls a balk that ties a game in the 12th inning of a night game. You'd think he'd be tempted to overlook it so that he could get out of there and get back to the hotel. I found Armando to be one of the most frustrating Mets closers ever, but I did feel bad for him this morning. When he was walking off the field after Delgado's homer, he looked so sad. I don't think I've ever seen that expression on him. The ESPN coverage of Barry Bonds was just so annoying. They must have HATED that he was sitting this one out. All those shots of him in the dugout. All those clips of home runs by him (and by Hank Aaron). It was just too much. After the game ended I kept the TV on as SportsCenter got underway, and someone mentioned Barry's "dramatic" pinch-hitting appearance. ESPN seems so out of touch on this. Bonds passing Aaron just isn't the same as Aaron passing Ruth. I just don't think that that many people care a whole lot. PLUS, most of the people who do care are probably rooting against him, not for him.
  12. Our vote counts for the weekend series in Miami is still a little light, especially since the Mets won all three games. If you haven't voted yet, please get your votes submitted today. All three games will be tallied tomorrow (Thursday) morning: Friday: http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6443 Saturday: http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6448 Sunday: http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=6452 Also, Player and Pitcher of the Month for May will be announced on Tuesday, June 5, after the voting closes for the final game of the current series against San Francisco. Both May winners look like they'll win by comfortable margins, and I doubt anyone will be surprised by the announcement.

  16. I think he also deserves some recognition for scoring from first on Beltran's double.
  17. I think things are looking good right now. I think they'll be in the playoffs, but it's certainly not in the bag. Atlanta is still close enough that they can retake the NL East, but I expect that the Mets will at least grab the Wild Card. If I remember correctly, by this time last year I had already started the Magic Number countdown. It's too early to do that yet this year. (I think it's currently at 107 though. But no, by mentioning that I'm not starting a countdown.)
  18. "His tight-bodied, bleach-blonde gal pal..." I bet tabloid "journalists" just LOVE writing these kinds of stories.
  19. I thought I heard the ESPN guys yesterday say that Delgado was first. That surprised me. I guess I was right to be surprised, since I obviously heard it wrong. I often don't listen to the announcers as closely as I used to. I think I listen along with Gary, Keith, and Ron, but are more likely to tune them out when some other crew is doing the games. "Jones" is Chipper, I assume? I'm not sure who Hardy is. Is he with Milwaukee?
  20. I don't think that tapping first with his foot delayed him significantly. He could easily have thrown home immediately and had the runner called safe. Then there's only one out and an extra runner on base. It could easily have become a two or three run inning after that. Delgado got an easy out, and still had a shot at an inning-ending double play. It (the half inning) didn't work out as well as we would have liked, but it turned out better than it could have been. I too think he made the right move.
  21. Well, you doesn't has to call him Johnson...
  22. They had been thinking that Alou might be ready for tonight's game. Guess not. So the big question for now is, will Johnson be able to get into a game as the 813th Met before Alou returns?
  23. Gwreck wrote: Tonight's game is an ESPN broadcast for the out-of-towners. Fun with stats: Giants vs. Mets, all-time, Bonds is still only third in Runs, Hits, HR and RBI. http://leaptoad.com/mets/oppteams.php?ThisTeam=09&tabno=F Interesting! He'll never pass McCovey in homers, but this week he could pass McCovey in walks (he needs 3) and, hopefully, in strikeouts. (He needs 9.)
  24. I don't care if he has ugly incidents with the media. (I mean, I'd prefer if he didn't, but I'm not going to get all upset if he does.) Steve Carlton wasn't that friendly with the media, and I wouldn't have minded having HIM on my team. Maine's job is to get guys out, not to shmooze with reporters from The Pennysaver.
