  1. I still say they should sign Darryl Strawberry. He can announce it himself from the press box at Shea.
  2. The logs offer no insight regarding Bud Harrelson's popularity on June 4. (Sometimes the Google search words offer a clue. Not this time, though.) Jimmy Piersall won big on June 2. He had a large number of Google and Yahoo searches. No real clue as to why. You don't need to seek an explanation when David Wright finishes first. It's more of a surprise lately when he doesn't.
  3. Do you have to somehow prove that you're a fan of FOX News?
  4. Pitcher of the Month has become a real grab bag in the last year since Pedro and Glavine stopped winning it. And Soler's win is the biggest anomaly yet. To Edgy's earlier point, I think I tend to give a lot of points to starting pitchers too. I suspect that in most games I end up awarding more points to the starters than they get from the final tally.
  5. CONGRATULATIONS TO OLIVER PEREZ, THE SCHAEFER METS PITCHER OF THE MONTH FOR MAY 2007!

  9. http://leaptoad.com/mets/jpeg/DavidWright1971.jpgCongratulations, and a big frosty mug of Schaefer beer, to May's Schaefer Mets Player of the month: DAVID WRIGHT.This is the third win for David; he previously won in August of 2005 and June of 2006. Wright led the Mets in several categories in May, including home runs (8), doubles (9), runs (17), and runs batted in (22). Carlos Delgado, who, like Wright, struggled in April also rebounded in May, finishing second in the overall voting. May's Pitcher of the Month is first-time winner Oliver Perez. Perez was 4-1 in May, with a 2.01 ERA in 6 starts. He led the Mets in innings pitched with 40.1 and in strikeouts with 35. CPF Schaefer Voting Results home page. 13. He recently (in the strips being rerun in the daily papers) was caught stealing home with two outs in the ninth. He had represented the tying run.
  14. The Mets might not place a pitcher on the staff. If they do, Perez might be a possibility as well as Maine and Wagner.
  15. Note to ticketholders (I'm one of them): The Sunday July 1 game at Citizens Bank Park has been switched from 1:10 p.m. to 8:09 p.m. for ESPN.
  16. I don't remember the URL, but I heard that there's a fan site out there somewhere that "celebrates" the 10,000 losses.

  18. Looks like I'll have to post a list of guys who narrowly missed being on the one-game-only list. Stay tuned for a list of Mets who have played in exactly two games.
  19. I was at this game, my first Shea visit of 2007. And just now, two days later, I realized that I witnessed Mets history, sort of. Prior to the start of the game, the Mets had played 28 games at Shea this season. That means that there were 53 home games remaining, plus another 81 in 2008 equals 134 remaining (regular-season) games at Shea Stadium before the move to Citi Field. Going into Saturday's game, the Mets had an all-time record of 1,786 wins and 1,652 losses at Shea since 1964. If they had lost all 134 remaining games, they'd end up at 1,786 and 1,786. So by winning on Saturday, the Mets clinched a winning record at Shea Stadium. It's funny. When sitting in the stands that day, looking out at the construction site beyond the outfield wall, I wondered if the Mets had clinched that winning record yet. It's strange that the thought occurred to me on the very day that they would get it done.
  20. Maybe the Mets can lure Darryl Strawberry out of retirement. He's only five months older than Roger Clemens.
  21. Okay, I can give you a more precise answer. To date, there have been 20: Jessie Hudson 1969-09-19 Francisco Estrada 1971-09-14 Don Rose 1971-09-15 Mac Scarce 1975-04-11 Luis Alvarado 1977-04-13 Doc Medich 1977-09-29 Bob Gibson 1987-07-25 Manny Hernandez 1989-09-16 Dave Liddell 1990-06-03 Kenny Greer 1993-09-29 Kevin Morgan 1997-06-15 Brad Clontz 1998-06-05 Dan Murray 1999-08-09 Ryan McGuire 2000-06-04 Brett Hinchliffe 2001-04-26 Gary Bennett 2001-07-24 Jason Roach 2003-06-14 Joe Hietpas 2004-10-03 Chan Ho Park 2007-04-30 Jason Vargas 2007-05-17
  22. Alou in 2007 is starting to remind me of Reyes in 2004.
  23. A bunch!
  24. I hope Jose steals at least 67 bases this year. I'd rather see him as the single-season record holder than one-hit wonder Roger Cedeno. Jose is also climbing the all-time ranks in runs and hits.
