Oops: A correction. We're still missing THREE World Series guys. The original count was six and we've accounted for Millan, Ventura, and Knight. Both of the current decade guys are World Series guys. The award winner is a never-in-the-postseason guy. One of Ed's remaining two teammates played in the World Series. The other never hit the postseason.
  2. Orel would have been correct if we were doing Top Twenty. (He's at number 16.) Pratt won the day once.
  3. ="Johnny Dickshot"] Ewww. That is weird! I wonder where I got that from.
  4. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Can't be Matlack, since the clue indicates he won the award for another team. That guy is Jeff Kent! My guesses: Kent Craig Swan Joe McEwing Ty Wigginton I was over there earlier and my "random met" was Shawon Dunbston. WTF is up with that portrait?!? No, no, no, and no. Kent, in 77th place, has four wins. Swan won once and McEwing three times. Wiggy has never won the day, but he's not in the top ten. Of the six remaining guys, two are pitchers, four are not.

  10. It does, but why are they unhappy? They seemed to be happy enough last season. Is it because winning isn't coming as easily as it did last year? Or have the clubhouse dynamics changed? It's mostly the same group as last year. Floyd is missing, and Pedro has been absent. Have they added any malcontents?
  11. Joe Torre's win on July 18 was, surprisingly, his first ever. He was the second highest ranked Met who had never been a daily lookup leader. (He's currently in 40th place overall.) Care to guess the current top ten? (These would be the ten players with the most lookups who have never been a most popular lookup on any given day.) Hints: Four of the ten have played for the Mets in the current decade. Six of them have played for the Mets in at least one World Series game. Three of them have never played in a post-season game for the Mets. Three of them were teammates of Ed Kranepool. One of them won one of the major post-season awards while with another team. One guess for each person. If anyone posts more than one guess I'll respond to the first and ignore the following guesses. Once I've acknowledged your guess as right or wrong, feel free to make another.

  14. I think Sid Fernandez also had 2.
  15. Burrell singles home a run in the 5th in LA and the Phillies and Dodgers are now tied.
  16. Vic, which are the five you haven't seen?
  17. Certainly he was in 1971. I don't really remember Seaver's 1981, and I don't particularly care that he didn't win that year, since he was no longer one of my guys.
  18. Hopefully it's one to build on. Tonight we have young John Maine against ancient Greg Maddux. Braves and Reds are tied in the ninth in Atlanta this afternoon. If the Mets can hold or expand their lead over the course of this California trip, it'll be a very good thing.
  19. It was a pleasant surprise to wake up this morning and find out that the Mets had defeated Jake Peavey. Before I got the game results, I was thinking about how during the 2006 season I often had that 1986 feeling, that the Mets could beat any pitcher and any opponent. But the way this season's been going, I went to bed last night expecting to learn of a Mets loss in the morning.

  21. From http://www.soxprospects.com/players/ambres-chip.htm: ="SoxProspects.com"]Scouting Report: Speedy outfielder with excellent plate discipline. Said to be a great, hard-working teammate. Great range in the outfield with a weak arm. Ambres has been slowed down by leg injuries in the past. And this is from http://www2.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/players/Chip_Ambres/ ]Assets A right-handed hitter with some power, Ambres also knows how to take a walk and runs well. Flaws Has some struggles hitting with runners aboard and could stand to cut down on the strikeouts. Career potential Solid fourth outfielder at best.
