  1. Blue caps today, solid white jerseys.
  2. Yeah, you might argue that it's their best possible lineup, except that I'd prefer Anderson over Easley. Castro playing instead of Lo Duca isn't exactly much of a sacrifice.
  3. That's pretty funny. He could end up hitting his 500th home run before he hits his 482nd? I hope Barry Bonds' 756th bounces off the scoreboard and lands on the field. Or lands in a bullpen or something. I'd hate to see some burly fan get rewarded for elbowing a few sixth-graders out of his way.
  4. We have 11 voters so far for Tuesday night's win against the Pirates. That's a decent number by recent standards, so there might not be any more coming. If anyone is still interested in voting, you have another 24 hours or so. Voting for Tuesday's game will close on Friday: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6947 The Schaefer Mets Player and Pitcher of the Month Awards are scheduled to be announced on Friday, August 3. There are three pitchers with a real shot at Pitcher of the Month. Each Mets starter gets one more start in July, so the pressure is on.
  5. I remember how, during the 1986 World Series, Red Sox fans were angry because Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola were so biased for the Mets and against the Sox, but Mets fans were saying just the opposite, that the broadcasters had a clear bias for Boston. I agree that "childish" is a good word to describe this.
  6. Holy Crap! I just found out that today's game starts at noon! I'm working from home today so I'll be able to have the game on TV while I'm toiling away. What a nice surprise.
  7. Lo Duca 3.5 Glavine 2.5 Heilman 1.5 Wagner 0.5 Milledge 1 Wright 0.5 Delgado 0.5
  8. I would doubt that anyone in the national media would be "anti-Mets" or anti- any other team. Maybe somebody in the local media might be, because it would get them attention. Anti-Met might rile people up and get publicity on WFAN or in the News or the Post, but nobody in Peoria cares if somebody criticizes the Mets. Filip Bondy has been openly anti-Met in his opinion columns in the News, but he's also written some positive things about them when he puts on his "objectivity hat" and writes more of a straight piece. It all depends on what mode he's in. But, really, there's no need to be "protective" of your team. It's pointless to read these columns looking for something to be offended about. If somebody predicts that the Mets will finish in second place, or third place, or last, who cares?
  9. Sure he was happy. Not only did he hit his target, but he got Piazza's attention and the attention of everyone in the crowd. And now his name is in the newspapers and on the Internet! It's win-win for him, unless he gets raped in prison.
  10. bmfc1 wrote: (Phillips recently predicted that the Braves would pass the Mets while the Mets were on the west coast--how'd that turn out?) His prediction was wrong, but it wasn't unreasonable. I'm not anti-Mets, but I sort of expected the Mets to come home from California in second place.
  11. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I don't think it matters any but given a choice, I'd prefer to have my journos to be critics rather than cheerleaders. I agree with that, as long as the criticism is legitimate. But sometimes these guys are contrary just to kick up a stir and get attention.
  12. What have they said/written that make you feel that they're anti-Mets? I have no opinion since I don't read/listen to any of them with any regularity.
  13. Brent Gaff, currently in 412th place, got his first daily win yesterday, thanks, I'm sure, to Keith Hernandez talking about him in the SNY booth last night. The last time I had checked, late yesterday afternoon, John Maine had a healthy lead in the afterglow of his home run. So Keith assists Gaff in stealing one from Maine.
  14. Wow, I'm reading a lot of frustration and aggravation in this thread. I'm glad I never got around to giving it a try!
  15. If the contract specified 30 Schaefer points he'd already be vested. Maybe his agent will learn a lesson from this.
  16. I doubt that "working out an extension" would be part of the deal. Fans always want that, but it's rarely part of the package. Most of the time the receiving team has to gamble that they'll either be able to resign the guy, or that he contributes enough during his short stay to make the trade worthwhile.
  17. ]You kept us in touch with the Glory Days of yore When character not steroids were the hallmark of a pro When egos were kept in check by codes of conduct And ostracism befell those who dared act up I know nothing about poetry. I never read it, and never write it. But I can tell that that's dreadful. If Howie Rose was raving about it then I'm quite surprised. I agree that it reads like it was written by a junior high school student. And the only person who should rave about it is the author's grandmother. Is it possible that Howie Rose is Ed Charles' grandmother?
  18. I think there's one year left for Delgado, but I'm not sure of that.
  19. What might a comparable offer be? I'm not aware of the Mets having coveted young infielders and catchers, so we couldn't match position-by-position. (I don't know if Texas would be interested in Andrus and Saltalamacchia because they want to fill certain positions, or because they're looking for the best available young players.) If it's the latter, would Humber, Gomez, and F. Martinez be comparable? Or could Carp be substituted for one of the two young outfielders?

  24. I was just about to get started, but I'll wait until I see your vote in each of the three threads. You've already missed the Thursday series opener, though. That one closed yesterday.
