Expect the first of two unusually hardy cheers for the visiting pitcher in this series as the Mets defend their first-place position.

Pinch-running specialist Travis d'Arnaud is expected to crack the lineup for the first time, possibly Wilmer Flores and Michael Conforto also.

We always commented on Colon's weight. Here's a way for him to lose some pounds.
Hit a lot of balls in the gap, and he'll have to run to back up third base.

LGM.

I am a bit surprised that Colon and Dickey are starters 2 and 3. I wonder if I would have tried Garcia, who pitched pretty well last season.

Not sure what happened to Matt Wisler. He was only just ok last season, but shut down the Mets IIRC. Just looked at the Braves schedule and he doesn't seem to even be in the rotation.

Really pumped to see deGrom tonight. I hear he is back to full strength. If so, the NL should be afraid.

Bart pitched clearly better, though, particularly if you're generous enough to throw out that start on José Fernandez Tribute Day.

MLB.com now has it listed as Garcia starting on Thursday with Dickey pushed to their Friday game at Pitt; not sure if that's correct or not.
Garcia is good when he's good but he might be even more erratic than the fat man and the knuckleballer combined so I'm not sure the order means much of anything.
Mike Foltenewicz is listed as their 5th starter for now although theirs could be a very different rotation by the end of the season.

I don't think Dickey was ever scheduled to pitch in the Opening Series.

Yes, I distinctly recall Gary on the telly saying " the Mets will miss Dickey in this series" , he was talking about the crowd reactions to Bart and Dickey

This will be the sixth time Bartolo has pitched against the Mets. He last did so on July 2, 2011 as a Yankee. Before that, there were three games as an Expo in 2002 and one as an Angel in 2005. He's 4-1 against the Mets in five starts. 2.81 ERA.

During his time as a Met, his Schaefer accolades resulted in the creation of five UMDB retrocards:

Looking up the first of those Expos games in 2002, (less big) Bart pitched a complete game for a 2-1 win that day for Montreal despite the NYM lineup getting 13 hits off him.
Even that fairly recent year (in this century anyway) seems quaint as the odds of a team getting just one run off 13 hits and the starter staying in the entire game while doing so are remote.
Bart threw 133 pitches; the Mets tied it at 1-1 in the 8th and had the bases loaded and one out and still he was allowed to stay in and get out of the jam (Jay Payton hit into a force at home then Ordonez K'd.
Mike Piazza and Timo Perez both had 3 hits that day, maybe Terry give them the start tonight.

Five days later the Mets, behind Jeff D'Amico, got to Colon for 4 runs on just 5 hits ... go figure.

Both teams swap catchers but otherwise back Colón and deGrom with the same squadrons in the same order.

DOes anyone else have FiOS and does their feed on SNY look like a bad stream on a PC?. I am watching the game but it looks like a feed I cast to the TV from a PC, choppy etc. I noticed this a few games last season . I have checked other live sports channels and they are fine

I have Fios and everything looks fine. Including that sheepish grin from deGrom when he struck out Bart.

Kemp hits deGrom, and Ces Kemps Colon, and suddenly, this game has lost a little of its sense of wonder.
