Sandy let some bullshit innings in ST fool him and then the stupid WBC gave Sandy the opening to put Montero on the roster as the "long man", much to the delight of every other team in baseball.I think that extends well beyond the mandate of my point.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Cold night at the old (nine-year-old, at any rate) ballpark. Weirdly long lines to get in, yet not that huge a crowd. Weirdly long lines at concessions. Joint not operating on all cylinders yet...or is in midseason form. They replaced the awful, awful, awful car race with a more fun version, three go-carts being pedaled around the track. Made me think of the little Jets plane that used to grace the sidelines at Shea offseason. Two cool new artifacts in the museum: Yogi's jacket from the 1973 postseason, with the rarely seen 75th anniversary patch celebrating the 1898 smashing together of the boroughs; the pillbox cap Tom Seaver wore in 1976. But the joy from seeing them was diminished by a) a lineup card from a game vs the Nats at Citi Field in July 2016 that, according to the accompanying text, was the lineup card from the game when the Mets hit 8 HRs at Citizens Bank Park in August 2015; and a Mets 41 jersey allegedly worn by Tom when he pitched during one of his twelve seasons as a Met. Except it has a drop shadow and, at best, was worn by Seaver when he threw out a first pitch. It's the kind of thing that if you saw at a Champions in a Marriott, you'd say, fine, whatever. But it's the frigging Mets museum.Montero sucks. The intentional walk bit was confusing at first, weird altogether. Throw the bleeping balls.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 This was a good game and a tough loss. Shame on Robles (Atl. shoulda scored 2 there). How long can you expect a bullpen to hold 'em? Disappointing. Two hits vs. Colon (*tips cap) and three the rest of the way?!! Come-OOOON Mets. Hit the fuckin ball. Extra inning though. I love it.Game deleted from my cranium save for the Bruce homer, which was very nice to see and I'd love to see 33, 34 more of those.Colon & deGroms line were mirrored except for the run. And Colon gave up the run! Gah!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 I watched at two boots pizza but caught the end on a long walk home. Seems to me the goat of the night ought to be dArnaud for going down on 3 pitches the way he did. Not a great turn for Kelly either. Oh, and Reyes looks awful.Montero has to get the Kurt Suzukis out because eventually the Kemps and Freemans will get a turn to drive them in.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 That about says it. Bad weather today.

When you've got a bullpen burning in game one of a series, make 'em throw a billion pitches. There might be a war of attrition in game two or three.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Yeah, an awful lot of bullpen shaming going on for a team that amassed all of 5 hits over 12 innings ... 60% of them by Jay BruceFact is we were dancing around trouble much of the night -- Braves were 1 for 10 w/RiSP prior to the Kemp hit -- and didn't come close to deserving to win that game. NYM bats only had 2 ABs w/RiSP and none in regulation -- only the aforementioned back-to-back d'Arnaud and Kelly K's following Bruce's 10th inning 2B (and the IW to Duda).
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Reyes did look awful. Hopefully it was just one bad day. He's been talking a lot about how he'll get off to a better start this year because he's had the benefit of spring training.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 I have been fearing a regression year for Reyes. Also, it's one AB, but I've already seen enough of Ty Kelly. Is there anyone in the world that would not have preferred seeing Kelly Johnson in that spot?
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Yeah, Ty Kelly always looks to me like a socially awkward teenager among men. His batting stance looks defensive and timid.I'm sure it's what works best for him as he is a professional baseball player, but it does not fill me with confidence when he is up in a big spot.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 I agree. Sloppy curation undermines the integrity of the museum. The Mets already have a poor reputation for respecting their history. They need to be more careful with this stuff.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Probably a mistake by an nonsalaried intern, cheap ass... oh, never mind....
