This team needs an on-base machine. Starting this season the same way we ended the last one—waiting for a couple of solo homers to bail out Syndergaard as he puts up zeros—isn't healthy. Blaming the the bullpen for not continuing the perfection is folly.

Start crowding the bases, you guys.

Blisters.

So if the blister is on his middle finger what was that on his thumb? I distinctly saw a yellow looking thing on his thumb.

Maybe he had two blisters, but the one on the thumb wasn't the problem. Does that make sense? I'm thinking that the thumb is the launching point---some discomfort there doesn't matter--but the finger is where he applies the torque.

I think the thumb would be worse. Thumb's 100% involved in every pitch. On both thumb & middle finger? Lord no, don't let that be the case.
Maybe its a video defect, even though it stays there throughout the clip.

Yep. Gotta stay woke through the finish line, Metsies.

Guys it's the first day! And they won! Save worries for the losing streaks please

Is there any doubt that we are going to lose Lugo to TJ surgery?

I mean what else causes you to get a second opinion on a balky elbow following an MRI?

The Mets need to get some Tuffskin

Or just some good old fashioned pickle brine.

With Matz and Lugo now likely to miss larger amounts of time, the rotation depth we had a few weeks ago has taken a hit.

That puts more pressure on Harvey and Wheeler to be good and healthy out of the gate.

Mets Worrisome Things 2017

Will Steven’s arm be constantly smitten?
And not playing the kids makes us so mad that we’re spittin’.
Will we get the bad Jay Bruce or the one from this Spring?
Those are a few of my worrisome things.

Will Lucas Duda drive in runs by the oodles?
Will Wheeler’s fixed arm be as limp as a noodle?
Will they get a full year from the two outfield wings?
Those are a few of my worrisome things.

Will young Conforto prove he's a hitter?
And will unforseen injuries dump the year in the shitter?
Will Legares’s torn muscles hurt when he swings?
Those are a few of my worrisome things.

But if they can resolve just a few of those things
And then I won’t feel so bad

Your National League walks leader: Jay Bruce with 3.

I just don't get the blister thing.

How does a guy thats been pitching since he was what - 10 years old - get a blister on his pitching hand? You'd figure there'd be permanent callouses, no? I've been using writing implements since I was a toddler and there's a freaking callous on the side of my middle finger that won't go away.

Even if their hands get all baby-soft in the off-season from no work, they've been in spring training for TWO MONTHS!

I don't get it.

I worry that last year's league worst offense was brought back more or less intact.

They didn't score in spring training and look like crap through 2 games so far.

I'm concerned about the offense too, but Phillie had the league-worst offense. By a lot. Mets were 12th of 15 in runs, seventh in OPS, ninth in OPS+.

What killed me was that the OBP was 12th, from an organization that allegedly cares about that sort of thing. Gary and Keith seemed to underscore that Kevin Long was of an "accentuate the positive" mindset, encouraging players to do what they do well. The problem with that was, what happens when what everybody does well is hit homers and strike out a whole lot? it seems there's more room for improvement (which they need) by shaving off some of the negative.

I mean, most of the Mets have better than average OBP. If you extend back to 2015 to loop in some more of Duda when he's actually playing, d'Arnaud and Reyes are about average, and it's Conforto, Flores, and Bruce that are below. And Lagares. (And obviously Rene Rivera)

So really, can David Wright give us anything? Will Conforto or Flores get/stay better? Will d'Arnaud shake off whatever last year was? The OBP will come if these things do.

it's just nice that we don't have Granderson wasting the OBP leading off anymore.

You know what I'd like? Like, one actual speedy bench guy. Just one. For pinch-running and such. Like, that's who I'd like in lieu of Nimmo or JohnnyLags.

You take Champ Stuart, I'll take Brandon Nimmo, and I'll get to Scotland before you.

Nimmo and Lagares are plenty fast.
