Enciarte isn't exactly an on-base machine, but apart from the four and five hitters, it's a pretty young group. The Mets, on the other hand, remain solid, top-to-bottom, but — unless they return Céspedes — lefty-heavy and with no obvious standouts. Second base is wide open, with Rivera in a good position to displace Flores and claim the Keystone, but if Wright is ready to answer the bell, Reyes may move over to second and displace them both.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I saw this and actually got excited. Not carnally, F-man.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 One effect of the Walker return is that it again tilts the Mets to the lefty-heavy lineup alignment. How big a problem that is depends on how much stock you put in Walker's numbers last year against lefthanders. Swapping out Bruce for Céspedes certainly changes that look a lot, but right now they look like exactly the sort of lineup that a lefty could eat up.Fortunately, the Braves don't look be starting any of those in the opening series.[fimg=200]http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/b/b2/Atlanta_Braves.png/revision/latest?cb=20100925025244[/fimg][fimg=200]https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b_jOzdV-j2E/VCpKpzTndmI/AAAAAAAAU00/o1Azy4eTF5A/s1600/MetsRealogo2015-z14.png[/fimg]Enciarte, cfGarcia, 3bFreeman, 1bKemp, lfMarkakis, rfFlowers, cPeterson, 2bSwanson, ssTeheran, spReyes, 3bCabrera, ssWalker, 2bGranderson, cfBruce, rfDuda, 1bConforto, lfd’Arnaud, cSyndergaard, sp
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 The lineup looks better today than it did this time yesterday. And will look much better if Cespedes returns, but I'm not sure I feel that great about it yet.Keep getting this feeling that good Conforto versus bad Conforto might make or break our season. And I know it's usually not black and white, but with him, it's kinda been feast or famine.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I'd put Conforto in that lineup instead of Bruce. I figure he's almost certain to be traded now.

Agreed that he will almost certainly be traded. Also agree. I want Conforto in there. I consider Duda a question mark until I see him play in spring. So I wouldn't be all that quick to deal Bruce. That can wait for now. Jay has only 3 games at first base in his career though. I guess we always have Flores for first.Yea, trade Bruce, see if we can get a catcher who's up to snuff. Or more pen help.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Duda is, and will be, a full time player. he's not platooning. Now, if he's not healthy, that's a different story, and one that you don't fill with Flores anyway.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 So you're assuming Wright is still injured/unavailable on Opening Day? I mean it's not a bad bet, but if there's any day he'd want to play, that'd be it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 25, 2017 Author Posted January 25, 2017 Yeah, until action gets underway to tell me otherwise, I'm working from the assumption that he and Wheeler start the year on rehab assignments in St. Lucie.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I would flip flop Granderson and Duda.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 On the Mets side of things, Terry seems determined to bat Céspedes out of the three hole.On the Braves side, some sites project Garcia as the #2 hitter, thus looking to Phillips to show some old-guy skills and hit in the middle of the lineup, but he's batted second the last few games. Also some hinting that Swanson will bat ahead of Flowers, but that's just brand loyalty talkin'.[fimg=200]http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/b/b2/Atlanta_Braves.png/revision/latest?cb=20100925025244[/fimg][fimg=200]https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b_jOzdV-j2E/VCpKpzTndmI/AAAAAAAAU00/o1Azy4eTF5A/s1600/MetsRealogo2015-z14.png[/fimg]Enciarte, cfPhillips, 2bFreeman, 1bKemp, lfGarcia, 3Markakis, rfFlowers, cSwanson, ssTeheran, spReyes, 3bCabrera, ssCéspedes, lf ^Walker, 2b vGranderson, cfBruce, rfDuda, 1bd’Arnaud, cSyndergaard, sp

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 That's not a terrible Braves lineup. Let's hope Thor makes them LOOK terrible, though. Problem is, Teheran positively owns the Mets during his career.I'll be there in the left field stands and I'm getting pumped. Let's get this party started.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 The Braves are going to score runs this year - especially seeing as how that new park looks like it's more inviting to hitters than the last one. Freddie could hit Fifty there.Their question remains whether all the AARP pitchers they picked up over the winter will provide a bridge long enough to get to the up and coming ones they have on the farm.If the oldsters fade while the youngsters don't pan out as expected then they're going to lose a lot of high-scoring games. But if some combination of Bartolo/Dickey/Garcia have another year in them and/or the baby arms come faster than expected, this could be a very dangerous team very quickly. They've done a remarkably quick pivot as soon as they realized that those big contracts they tried a few years ago weren't going to work. And I still don't what the fuck Arizona was thinking by dealing 1/1 draft pick Dansby Swanson PLUS Ender Inciarte PLUS pitcher Aaron Blair for Shelby Miller. And Miller was the guy the Braves had turned Jason Heyward into just a year earlier.
