It's awkward. Like the Braves in 2001, or the Orioles in 1979, fate suggests the role they are supposed to play is gracious losers on the road, where all sympathy is with the home team. But they need this game.

Tom Koehler is too uneducated to figure out how the Magic Number works.

lol.

What a ridiculously dramatic final week we've got coming up. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well, maybe up by 10 games for the division but come oooon, nothin's easy. If we can limp over the finish line before Jane Jarvis plays taps we have had one fantastically 'amazin' season. After that it's one extra Mets game at a time. Bonus baseball!

I still kinda don't know how to feel about this.

I mean, I kinda smiled a little when I heard the Mets were winning. Then I clicked the radio off, and went right back to spending time-- hilarious time, intermittently-grating time, nourishing time-- with the familia. Baseball seemed a long way off today.

It's strange knowing ahead of time that whatever happens you will remember this game for the rest of your life. Going to be tough to hold back tears tonight. But I definitely want to watch it. If his mother and grandmother are there I'm going to just lose it.

This stuff was hard to watch before I had kids. But ever since my kids were born, I'm a complete mess when it comes to this stuff.

I don't know how, but the Mets have to find a way to focus on the game tonight. Good luck boys.

Also, I am having trouble coming to grips with the fact that despite what happened, a small part of me is glad they are not facing Fernandez. I know it's wrong and I feel like a total dickhead over it. But no matter how guilty I feel about it, the feeling is still there.

Reminds me of one of the NASCAR drivers who said, during the first race following the death of Dale Earnhardt (paraphrased to the best of my memory): 'I found out today that the only thing worse than seeing the black #3 car in your rearview mirror is not seeing it'

Every Marlin will be wearing #16 tonight. Gonna be tough for our guys to focus on the task at hand. Let's hope they do.

That was my very first thought when I learned of this news. It was still in unconfirmed Twitter report form, so I somehow didn't buy it. Therefore, my thinking was "he's not dead, but he won't face us," which didn't exactly mesh. A cake and eat it too desire, I suppose.

Once it sunk in, I veered to sorrow and shame. Later I admitted my thinking to good friends of the Met persuasion. Each said, in essence, "yeah, me, too."

Just kidding, Tom. I resolve in the memory of your fallen teammate I'll refrain from jokes aboit how poorly educated you are, for at least 6 innings.

Teams embrace and well, we all lose it

I love what Gary is saying as he breaks up , a young man who risked it all to get to this country, he couldn't help but think of that as the National anthem was played

Tough to watch. So much tougher for them to go through. Didn't think about it much today, but now, like the start of last nights game, I'm bummed. I have to pull myself out of this. LGM!

That was one of the most beautiful renditions of the Star Spangled Banner that I've ever heard. Like Gary, I guess after the tribute, I was extraordinarily moved by it.
