Let's talk about Jay Bruce for the next couple hours

All true. But giving up defense for offense is one of things teams making late kick to get back into the race find themselves doing. I mean, some team last year convinced themselves that Yoenis Céspedes was a center fielder. The crazy thing is that it worked ... until it didn't.

Has there been realistic talk about Bruce to first? doesn't look like he really plays there at all.

3 games in 2014. and i would not worry even a little about Loney. He will get his time.

If he's staying in the outfield, this must mean the end of DeAza, no?

An abrupt end to the Legend of Nimmo, to be sure. I feel like we just spent years waiting for a roast to cook, pulled it from the oven just as it was approaching done-ness, then turned around and flipped it for a day-old steakhouse burger. Like, it used to be delectable, but now... well, I guess it's calories.

Not a fan of this, really. He's got power, but really, that's ALL he has. Also, two first names? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE, MR. FAKE NAME??!?

Crasnick and Carig say Bruce a done deal for Nimmo and two lower prospects pending physicals.

Depending on the lower prospects, I can be OK with this deal since I think Nimmo's ceiling is likely not what Bruce will provide this year and next, but I don't think Bruce fills a glaring need in 2016, so I still scratch my head a little.

I wonder how the development staff feels at a time like this. Imagine the number of endless Nimmo meetings they've had over the years!

I guess we'll be talking about him a lot longer than a couple of hours.

Like I mentioned, not high on Bruce, but Nimmo didn't seem like a high price to pay for someone with 25 HR's and 80 RBI.

Hope he doesn't make us pay later.

Welcome to NY Jay Bruce.

Is he a good guy at least?

was thinking of Granderson and Conforto's potential more specifically.

This year has really caused me to re-think whether being able to hit with RISP is an actual skill. I always assumed this was just a stat of correlation rather than actual ability. Only this year's Mets have me thinking whether there is something to it.

In any event, Jay Bruce with RISP

2016: .360 BA, 1.125 OPS
2015: .180 BA, .642 OPS
2014: .242 BA, .746 OPS
2013: .262 BA, .825 OPS

So either it's a random stat, or he was ok at it, then got really bad, and practiced, and got really good at it this year.

Hope he doesn't forget it.

Twits say the prospects are A level pitchers Chris Flexen and Max Wotell. Also word is they're working on a solution.

So, all you Wotell fans can relax.

This is gonna be a hell of an afternoon.

Apparently something to do with Nimmo's foot.

Dunno, I see Bruce as a kind of redundancy. There are too many outfielders already, and a Cespedes/Granderson/Bruce outfield is scary beyond belief.

I was hoping they'd shop Neil Walker for something to restock the farm with, then bring up Dilson, who's rotting in Vegas.

Walker's decent and they're gonna, CBA-willing, get a comp pick for him next year to restock with.

I'd have liked to see Dilson a billion times by now though.

very redundant with what we have - but if the prospect cost isnt too high it is a smart move to hedge against Cespedes walking for NEXT year.

Buster says deal back on; but, no Lucroy for Mets.

Sherman says the same.
Were able to reconfigure the deal which is now 'On the verge' of completion.

Also says that there's likely a separate smallish deal for relief help.

well THAT sucks. Its one thing to include Herrera in a deal for an all-star catcher, and quite another to give him away in a deal for a 1-dimensional power bat.

Not Nimmo but Herrera +.

Lucroy to the Rangers, evidently.

Scratch that, my bad. It's Herrera INSTEAD of Nimmo.

Yeah, that was mostly my fault jumping the gun.

New info (Jonathan Mayo) says Herrera and Max Wotell, no 3rd player.
