You know, I kinda do too. Because if it didn't "count," you literally would have had to let Bartolo pinch-hit at some point.

Did you just come out of left field?

I'm sure Jay was saying "Bobby V used some of his own players by this point."

When I saw the NL in road uniforms even though the NL is the host city, I lost interest. I watched the intros and that's it. Swear to god.

I believe ya. I watched very little although it was on the whole time. Yes, as mentioned earlier the NL park AL rules just adds additional lunacy to this fiasco.

And something else, while I'm on my soapbox --- they ruined everything when they divided the leagues into three divisions. That's the root of wild cards, inter-league play and every other modern baseball evil, including that the all-stars no longer wear their regular caps during the game anymore.

Gah! This new PC. I can't find that old man yelling at the cloud picture. ;)

Yeah. I tried, really, to watch, but Fox makes it akin to watching a snuff film. Plus, you know, no Mets, and how the fuck is the NL the road team in an NL park? This game is fucked up as a four dollar bill.

Freaking Torre would fill his roster with Yankees and we can't even get Terry to insert one Met into the game.

Terry's all about honor. And you know he's going to exercise his obligation to every other team first.

But guys, I have to say, staying up for the whole game at 11 years old in 1978, and getting to see the John Stearns catch the ninth, didn't really do that much for me. Ephemeral appearances just to air every team's laundry, rather than deliver a thrill to every fan base, actually deliver an equal lack of thrills to all of them.

Play competitive baseball, rather than a fashion show, and the thrills will come.

Right. Even as an "adult", I'm pissed. Put Colon in early--how many more of these will he have? Get your closer some action if only to get his work in (now, he will pitch Friday regardless of the score). Show some pride for your team being the NL Champs. Terry was more concerned with satisfying the fans of every other team but his own.

Hey! Stop trying to douse my logic-less rant with logic! I got a full head of steam here! :)

I actually did, as a kid, like to see Stearns in there. Back in those dreadful days, the Mets representative in the All-Star Game was about the only chance to see a Mets player on the national stage.

I just looked at the box score to see if either of the Mets pitchers got into the game, and neither did. (Who was the NL manager again?)

And I saw that the American League batted in the bottom of the inning and I figured that had to be a mistake, but then I saw Fman's post that confirmed that that actually is what happened.

Sheesh!

Then don't tell the fucking Fox guys that you're going to "get every uniform" in there.

I'm thinking of 1977, when Stearns made it as the third catcher despite a poor first half, as somebody from the Mets had to appear, and Seaver had been exiled. By the end of the season, Steve Henderson was their best player, but he was only a few weeks into his career.

I was 10, was up until 11 o'clock, and for my trouble, I got to see John Stearns' all-star ass in the midst of a less than stellar year, warming up Goose Gossage, and then standing with his hips cocked as Boomer Scott homered and circled the bases with a two-run blast. Dude would never get to the plate with a chance to redeem himself for whatever his part in that homer was.

Bleh to fashion show baseball.

I didn't watch, did Buck blow Torre on camera or was it behind the scenes?
Would have been nice to give Uncle Bartolo an inning, but having trouble getting
why everyone is seemingly pissed off about lack of Metly game time.

Thursday off-day is stupid. (have to say it at least once)

I would've brought in Colon to pitch to Ortiz. Just to give the stat guys something to do. "The first time these guys faced off, 56% of the All-Star's were in diapers"

"And this may be our first 600-lb showdown in All-Star history. We have the boys at Elias looking into that. Translate that into kilos for the viewers overseas, would you, fellas? So, Tom, I hear you had the honor to attend Derek and Hannah's wedding ... "

Me too. Had I been watching, I imagine I would have been pissed the Mets didn't get in. But my aim every all-star break is to avoid injuries, so mission accomplished I guess.

I get that you're trying to win. And that should be the case. But if I were managing I would think I would consider:

1. Get someone from every team into the game.
2. Get first-timers into the game.
3. Get last-timers into the game
4. Try to injure all Nationals

I don't get the impression the players are "pissed."

Embarrassed to have to answer to how they feel having not been used, maybe

And if he is managing to win, they why is he holding back a Cardinals rookie for a key, late-inning situation? He was swinging wildly up there.

It seems like in these close games -- and many recent games have been close -- World Series advantage is not being decided by the best players, but the player representatives for the bad teams.

Don't be wasting any of your brain cells analyzing "this counts" -- probably the dumbest baseball thing ever foisted on the game and its fans. The only reason it even exists is as a knee jerk reaction to when ASG managers were too fcking dumb to save players for extra innings in SeligTown.

You know what else? If it weren't for this counts, we wouldn't have had last night's ridiculous spectacle of the NL wearing road unis in an NL host stadium.
